Latest Intel on Canes’ interest in Wesley Bissainthe and other NFL players returning

Players returning back down from NFL level in any capacity does not end well for the current status quo.

It does, however, create a MLB AAA farm system.

Is that what is desired?

Things do seem to be moving towards a farm system-type set up. (my post from the Mega Conf. thread in July)

This is a horrible take. The NFL is about to cut down rosters to 53. All across the league you’re going to see teams pick up cut players who are going to jump over guys on the depth chart who busted their asses during the offseason, OTAs and training camp. ****, the Seahawks just signed a dude facing 8 felonies—their locker room will be fine. College football is essentially a pro sport now— these guys are getting paid and if they’re not performing well enough there’s no room for sympathy if they get supplanted.
That's the Logical way of thinking about it but ppl here can't get over the emotional aspect as if these kids aren't paid professionals already n shouldn't need to be coddled.

This is a political issue and Miami needs to tread carefully as we need to get into SEC or Big 10 as they are pushing for further consolidation.

I am not risking a political black eye for an average linebacker to suit up.

Does Wes make the team that much better to get into media / political debate?

No.

The bottom line is this: as of this morning, according to @DMoney ‘s sources, he was told unequivocally that Miami is not pursuing this avenue of bringing in any talent, including Wesley, from this “temporary” pool of players.

I trust this information, and while obviously the position could change depending on circumstances and further review, it seems pretty clear that this is not an avenue that Miami is going to explore one week before kickoff.

So for those of you saying, sure, let’s take him back, I don’t think that there’s a likely avenue of this happening. Especially considering the risk to the school that was discussed in DMoney’s discussion. It would seem somewhat disruptive and risky to do this.

100%agree, this would be a slippery slope, 5 years to play 5 great, NIL great but am in line with your thoughts
lucky for s Mario built and gets the importance of culture. NFL which has a " free player development league will do all it can to prevent this as well.....

You might be one of the dumbest people on the board. That's not an insult, just a factual observation.

Respectfully disagree. He's actually bright. Sometimes he makes some really good points. Sometimes he makes thought-provoking claims. Howeva (Sceamin' A Smiff voice), it's the consistent snarky insults that typically accompany his commentary along with a generally argumentative nature that bristle people. Now if you used the word "dumbest" to insinuate what I spelled out, "Scuzzi" as my Italian friends would say.

CFB has ALWAYS Been the farm system for the NFL. It's still free to the NFL this way too.
Get mad at the NCAA/agents/lawyers all you want (not YOU personally), but people should be asking why isn't the NFL subsidizing college football?

IMO, you gotta take a stand at some point as a U, as a conference and for heavens sake the NCAA should of figured this out years ago... I still have no clue when the original 5years to play 4 ended, with a 1 year extra medical shirt???? to me that was a solid stretch for kids..

You can't ***** kids you looked in the face and made promises during HS recruitment or portal pitches, and bring back dudes that had their time and just couldn't cut it in the pros...

all the covid kids should be gone by now... go back to original formula... 4years playing.. 1year RS.... 1year Medical shirt (if needed).
- max 2 transfers

I remember a time worrying about 21yr old seniors vs 18yr old FR... now we got 24yr old seniors vs. 18yr olds...

Amen dude. It's absolutely ridiculous.

This situation would benefit from a lot less emotion and a bit more logic.

You take Wes back in two seconds, without question.

If he had the option the courts deemed he should have had, he likely never leaves in the first place.
This

If Wes had been given this opportunity back in the spring he might have just stayed

Not his fault (or his problem) if he comes in here and would beat out people that got paid good money to work hard in practice

Also this is a temporary thing (as far as bad timing), people pointing to the long term fallout and future are ridiculous
