Defensive coordinator Lance Guidry had an immediate impact on Miami’s defense last year, as the unit rose from #66 to #48 nationally (+18) in scoring defense and from #80 to #36 (+44) in yards per play. He went in-depth after Friday’s practice about the unit’s continued progress:

Tbh it might be a little blessing in disguise having Kiko out

He’s a vet and these young backers can get some much needed reps. There’s some good ones on the depth chart
Agreed, Flagg played well last year but having Popo as the 2 at MLB gives a lot more athleticism on the field and it’s great he’s getting those reps with the ones this spring.

We’ve heard “multiple” so many times over the years but last year felt like one of the first times we really saw it
1000% agree. Thought Guidry did an outstanding job especially with some of the depth issues we had. That Clemson game was one of the better defensive performances we’ve had in a big game in a long time.

He did a great job with all the problems. Looking forward to the D-Line depth this year. LB has transformed in the last couple years.
 
Great stuff, D. Guidry will tell you who the studs are. Last year he made a comment in early fall practice about how to watch out for 44 out there. I thought it was the typical freshman hype but it was legit. I expect the same for this year’s crop. He probably won’t watch what he says if the kid is a stud.
