WTF with DTs? Maybe it’s a personality issue? DTs are bat**** crazy and Mario expects kids to be like Cam Ward or X or Blount. I mean, look at how many decent ones transferred out under him too. He has got to fix this failure starting now. Time to take DT personally, Mario.

He’s recruited them, but that development hasn’t been there. HOPEFULLY w the young talent we have now, we can change that narrative. That’s the beauty of sports; as a coach u can easily change narratives in a season. Let one of those DTs go off this season, & it won’t look the same.

If you don’t have a recent national championship next to your name then don’t even bother recruiting a 5 star from that state.
That’s the only way you’ll get a pass from the locals. Travis Ettiene doesn’t even visit Clemson if they weren’t consistently in the playoffs and beating bama in the natty. And even then they trashed him when he committed there.

Mario better be making the playoffs and fresh off a natty if he thinks money alone is a gonna pull a dude from that state, with that ranking, going to that school, at that specific position.
As the kids say “he’s delulu”.

I'd feel a lot better if we had the numbers. Scott, Jones, Simpson are only returning DTs. That's insane. ... and yes, I know Newton and Russell are on the roster. They are projects at best, reaches more likely.

Simpson is a true freshman

Moten is the only DT on the team from the 22/23 classes. That’s tough

Actually what might be crazier is only Moten and Bain on the entire DL are left from 2022/2023 and it’s not like we lost them to the draft

something that needs to be pointed out about the DT problem is that SFL doesn’t produce dominant DTs the way we do everything else. So in my mind that puts us at a bit of a disadvantage to begin with.

Not true. LSU really only got into New Orleans once Saban got there and he hired guys who were connected to New Orleans high school football. New Orleans has its own football politics that is separate and apart from the rest of Louisiana. Also, USC's DL coach is from New Orleans and is friend's with Stewart's handler. LSU wasn't caught off guard by Stewart. They couldn't match what USC offered in the way of NIL (Marvel Comics is involved with Stewart's NIL and USC put that together) coupled with his DL coach being close with Stewart's people.
The whole LSU couldnt match thing wouldnt be true...LSU of all places would match whatever for what they want as we personally see in this same thread with them getting Brown. They chose NOT TO or they werent really in it ...would be better and the connecton with the dl trainer was known about as well. Henderson and his trainer may have been teammates at Karr so their in lied what you stated.

Stewart wasnt a real NO kid anyway he is from RESERVE.

The key to these big time recruits is when they tweet at a particular school to hype up the crooting. That’s just about always the death knell for a school.
RIGHT ANY OLD RECRUITING VET KNOWS THIS.....THEY WANT THEIR "MOMENT" TO BE A SHOCK A SCENE.

"Yall sleep on Miami" was recruiting cue for Miami is running third or fourth for vets like us.....but a bat signal in negotiations to his real schools. We know how mario moves when he wants to steal a recruit from out of state its way more stealth and he aint having kids tweet sh*t like that.

Mesidor?

Good catch I meant the recruiting classes. I love what we did this year in the portal but I think ideally we would have had more of these recruits stick around and be leading the way up front by now
The scheme held back this DL IMO. I think Hetherman is going to let these guys loose and we will see a much better group this year. Plus with the additions in the secondary our DL will have more time to get to the QB.

I just hope to god Mario’s 2024 class lives up to the billing on the DL

I don’t think this year is make or break for any of them it’s too soon, but I hope we see signs from guys like Scott/Lightfoot/Blount etc

Agreed, so it forces us to go hunting far away from S. Florida and puts us in the predicament:

1. Aim low for a higher commit percentage like Golden and target the likes of Courtel Jenkins, Calvin Hertelou and Jacoby Briscoe 🤮 and occasionally strike gold with Kendrick Norton and RJ [OR]
2. Aim high which is what Mario is trying to do, but there is a much higher whiff rate because you are competing with the uber elite bag schools who will do whatever it takes to get the elite DTs. They will not make it easy for us and it absolutely will NOT always be about money.

Maybe there is a middle ground somewhere - like whale hunt for the elite DTs but have a fallback plan to at least walk away with low 4 star / high 3 star DTs who you feel really good about so we don’t come up empty handed?

All I know is this is a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation.

I say, throw everything at the big Tongan kid with anger management issues because we need more size at the position anyway.

4 years and counting...

Was hoping this got bumped saying hes still in contact lol. Absolute beast.

I wish we would turn the heat up on Deuce Geralds. We need to hit big on DL. With the season were having, the way our defense is playing, our depth chart at the position next year, AND what were putting in the draft this year.... no excuse to not kill it in recruiting.
