It can be both.

It's obvious at this point that it isn't easy to work with Mario. That's blatantly obvious at this point.

I would also say that it seems likely that Smith knew he wouldn't be here long if his family never joined him here. If that's a fact and not something someone made up. He would've known that right away which is scary when you think about it.
You’re not reading between the lines. In this case, it’s not because Mario isn’t easy to work with.

Always love Coordinators being able to pick their own guys.

Now I'm curious if Field moves to an off the field role. Imo TE coach would be the best role for Coley. Let him pawn off any actual coaching duties to O-line and WR.
Been saying that for weeks. Coley with the tight ends and bring in a young and hungry WR coach

- Ponce got fired in house in November as I’ve been repeating incessantly for months, and was told to leave or face public axing.

- Smith was extremely lazy on the trail and refused to visit Heritage down the god**** road, causing Mario to have to bail his a$$ out and win over Fletcher when it should have been a layup. Wasn’t returning either way, nice comfy landing spot to save face.

- Steele was literally mentioned as a temporary fix while Saban waits for the stench of Pruitt to wear off. No one at Alabama views this as a successful hire.

- No other program wanted Strong as a DC. Weird how he hasn’t been officially hired at Bama right? My money is him being named an analyst; if he was the preferred LB coach, he would have been hire by now. Shows you what Saban thinks of him

- Gattis shouldn’t be allowed within 100 yds of a school

We good here?
The optics of this are important. If you're going to completely blow up your staff after year 1, this is the way it has to go. Are guys like Addae, Field and Salave'a safe or are they looking for soft landings as well?

Players not liking the coach is irrelevant, Butch and Portis didn’t like each other and it seemed to work out fine
You don’t have to like each other but there has to be respect, otherwise most times it will not work. The moment things get tough, it will spiral. Plus today is a much different environment vs the Portis and Butch era.

Jimmy Lake and Mario have beef I believe. Lake insulted Oregon the school, their academics and their recruiting when he was at rival Washington. Lake was also dismissed for cause after a physical altercation on the sideline at UW. Seems unlikely, but I could be wrong.
Yeah there was some minor back and forth in the media about some trivial reciting BS IIRC, but Mario paid it no mindshare and beat the huskies in Lake’s final seasons in Seattle. The altercation is a bad look, and he was also was on a bad path as a HC… UW had a good reason to move in from him for altercation and field performance. He **** well may be unhireable and not worth our time, don’t think he’s seen any traction for hiring this year… the cloud of the punch/slap still seems to loom large. Nonetheless, he had some great defenses under Peterson and put a bunch of baller DBs in the league. He’ll get another shot, just thought we should give him a look if there’s a fit.

Again, we have to deal with more porsters who know nothing and talk ****.

Posters who know things: "It's complex, there are many reasons, the reasons differ for every coach."

Porsters who know nothing and talk ****: "It's obvious at this point that it isn't easy to work with Mario. That's blatantly obvious at this point."

And the cycle goes on and on and on like this...
