Keontra Smith and Chase Smith

I think player evaluation is not the problem overall. We have talent but the staff is not using them properly and or not developing these kids. Not to mention they are passed over by seniority in a lot of cases until forced to play them due to injuries or some other outside reason. The fact that now some of the players are playing and playing well after 9 or 10 games is a fireable offense for Manny. The season is lost because of his ineptitude. Also, all of this rotating guys constantly is a problem as well. You don't allow these guys to build chemistry as a unit. You have a guy ball out one play, then he's out for the next series, WTH. There are situations where you may want to rotate but not every game and all the time, especially when you don't allow a Chase Smith, or TAC to get some burn.

Ehh. I never saw star potential in non of them. Especially this early. I saw guys who definitely play and make plays at this level. Now LT is a whole different deal. He has that type of size and talent to take over games..and low and behold, LT was doing just that in HS and was regarded as such. Harvey, JHH, roberts and Williams weren’t quite that coming in

Depends on what you mean be "star". Roberts reminded me of RJ McIntosh and I saw another Garvin in Harvey. Not elite but high quality Top P5 level. There were a few plays where JHH made me think he had something special in him. But he is way too inconsistent.

Chain is only as good as its weakest link. Our LB and CB evals have been abysmal. Our OL evals were equally horrible up until a couple years ago, and we're still whiffing too much there. That compounded by the fact we whiff on too many of our top targets makes it a huge problem.

I refuse to give a lot of credit for the Covid class of 2021. The talent in that class is Top 10, but that's because the coaches were lucky not good. And even then we f-ed up our LB and CB evals.

TAC too. TAC looked better than Keontra in his few snaps.

I've been calling for TAC since the first snap 44 played as a starter last year. He was bound to ***** up multiple times until he gained the necessary experience, but couldn't do much worse than 53/44 at LB. And he would have contributed significantly this year.

They are different. And it took our head coach longer to figure that out than some amateurs on a message board.
Totally agree. And James Williams, Leonard Taylor, Jacolby George, Romello Brinson, Brashard Smith, and Elijah Arroyo are also different in the same way, and the same is true of them.

Bingo. Manny seems to be afraid of letting kids go out and make mistakes, so he goes safer w/ a kid like Flagg. He seems to want to play kids w a higher floor than a higher ceiling.

Our player evaluation & development has sucked for years. TVD would still be on our bench if king didn’t get hurt
Exactly. Diaz said king was the starter when he got back. Even tho spring went well for TVD and Garcia.
I’m not knocking king. He gave his all for the team but we got a glimpse of the offense w Perry and you saw what happened when TVD got his shot.

Maybe Diaz shouldn’t have just given the job to King. Would we have beaten Bama w TVD. Probably not. More problems that the qb.

I did say overall. They missed on some just like other schools do as well. Many of these guys were recruited by top schools as well. Lb issue was Manny. Trying to move DEs to play lb. Then the lbs u do have, TAC, Troutman do well when given an opportunity but very limited PT. OL has been an issue. Cb, no development, but I would also say poor scheme. We are also lacking in depth here as well.

Are you convinced he actually figured it out? We still had a lot of opt outs and injuries I'm not convinced that played by choice.

Chase needs to be a starter in the bowl game. And we need to rotate far less.

flagg needs to start next year with his hand on the ground. he's got enough skills to give you 15-18 good snaps from there every game. he's another tyriq mccord type from the edge if he's coached right.

Nope. He’s not explosive enough to play with his hand in the dirt. He can play 10-15 snaps a game.

If Troutman puts on some lbs, then a 3 LB set of Smith/Troutman/Smith would bring it. C. Smith will be 230 by next year...started at 176 and now 215

I wouldn’t categorize RJ as a star..Willis..Greg..Phillips..those are stars imo. They single handily took games over..RJ was very productive tho.
