Eddie Johnson shoulda been in the Ring of FameWe had a lot of talented LBs throughout the 10s who we couldn’t keep on campus, many of them were hidden gem types too. Of course, they were hidden because of grades/character/injuries/attitude/compensation/playing time/etc.
Besides the obvious mainstays like Denzel, Spence, and Shaq; we lost out on year(s) of Eddie Johnson, Alex Figueroa, Arthur Brown, Gabe Terry, Gionni Paul, Jermaine Grace, Juwon Young, AQM (3-4 lol), and Devante Bond.
That’s before getting into the layups we passed on like Skai Moore and so forth or guys who never got started like Josh Witt.
Thankfully we’re at a point where if we miss a layup or just str8 up get beat, it’s easier for them to circle back (Jarquez carter & Xavier Lucas) and we have enough meaningful depth where we aren’t relying on Devante Bond’s transcript to be good enough to save us or an ncaa investigation to go along smoothly (Grace/Young/AQM) etc. . . . That way we aren’t living and dying by how good Raphael Kirby turns out to be.
I still remember seeing Juwon Young pull-up in his foreign at the handicap parking spot when Going to the dining hall….lol
Once Manny Diaz gets on campus, he inherited the 3 LBs who were already committed in the ‘16 class and he proves to everyone that—oh wait, oh no—it actually can get worse than Al Golden and Dorito when it comes to defensive recruiting.
Not completely surprised SMU under Rhett doesn’t have a ton of HS recruits because Manny’s staffers had to have some level of acceptance of what was going on with his lazy steering of the ship.
Stick that beast in Heathermans defense, give him a mentor, and let it rip
