Justin Fuente fired at Va Tech

Why would Kiffin leave Oxford for Blacksburg? He wouldn't. It will probably be Chadwell or Beamer. Maybe they will entertain Bill Clark.

Tech has structural problems recruiting. Not enough P5 talent in state and whatever is 4 stars and above gets picked off by the usual suspects and add in Penn State.
I didn’t say he would take it but I could see them certainly making a run at Kiffin. That being said, he has zero chance to even win his division in the SEC so a major brand in a conference he could potentially roll isn’t absurd.

They were incensed that he was let go : argument is he did much good while he was AD, including athlete academics, fundraising, leadership roles within ACC committees, including chairmanship of a couple, They also went off a bit on the fan base about the perception that changes like this will "bring back" the good old days..... It was mainly Wes Durham - he seemed really angry. Packer was more understanding that football drives these kind of decisions
They are on the outside looking in - like the majority of us - and have no clue about the inner workings at the U or any school for that matter. From interviews I’ve seen in the past, the 2 of them seemed very cordial with Blake, mainly because he’s one of the few ACC AD’s that did interviews with them.

I’m surprised at Durham’s response. He’s usually the Poodle and Packer is the Bulldog.

Agreed but there are some good ones and some uncommitted big names out there in general for an ace
No doubt we want to keep and/or build on the class so we don’t have that nonsense where we have like no DBs in 2 years. I’m just saying it’s not worth efing up the hire over. I’d rather the best coach possible and a disaster of a class than the other way around.

Do some of you realize that you can’t hire a new coach until after the season is over regardless of how early you fire your previous coach? There’s not some line with a ticket machine like the deli where it’s first come first serve.

Also, Miami just fired their athletic director. You probably need to hire a new one before anyone can fire/hire a coach.

It’s very likely Miami will employ Manny Diaz through the remainder of the season. Probably because it will save them $2 million. If that extra $2 million can go towards our new coach’s salary it would be well worth it. There’s literally nothing to gain by firing your coach now unless your team is in such shambles that players are quitting and you risk losing a chunk of your roster.

He was clearly angry.

Everyone knows what will happen if and when Miami lands a competent HC and staff… they got a little glimpse back in the 2017

VT may have had to act because they felt like they needed to start a coaching search. If we already have a strong candidate or two with mutual interest then there's no benefit to acting now.
While this certainly seems to be the case for us I personally wouldn’t be acting like we have our candidate until we actually sign our candidate. Any number of issues can come up and derail the process. If we start seeing BOT members tweet weather gifs and Hiroshima memes I’m really gonna start to worry.

Texas Tech, UConn & Georgia Southern all hired coaches already so it is possible

Many a slip between the cup and the lip.

It depends who you are pursuing to be the next coach. Texas Tech already has hired their new coach in place.

He doesn't know anything about the program.

Honestly, I don’t view us in competition with any of these schools with openings. We aren’t in the same tier as LSU and USC in terms of their approach/spend and VaTech is likely looking for someone culturally different than our targets (Outside of Kiffin who could be a shared target).
No way Kiffin would leave Ole Miss for VT

What does "culturally different" mean? Are they looking for a competent football coach?
