You’re possibly looking at it wrong. I don’t know what is going on… not sure if too smart or too stupid to follow this story. I’m just saying if the school is going to go with Jurich, the school contacted Jurich before and he was excluded from the SOW, and the search firm will not be paid if it is Jurich, then why would they stay engaged in the process? If they aren’t getting a commission then of course they don’t want to put in more work.

They must want an exclusive single source contract of sorts...

Dose that mean the only way they get paid if the school chooses a name from their list?

Just out of curiosity, If Mario and Lane are both a no go, then who out there is a clear upgrade over Diaz?

I’m starting to think the powers that be are looking at it this way. Something tells me you will hear some stories in the coming weeks about how Miami reached out and found out they weren’t going to get either guy.

I don’t want Diaz back, but if those two guys are off the board anybody else is an even bigger roll of the dice than normal. We’d be taking another flyer on someone.

Well the contract was already signed based on the fact that they are now threatening to quit. So either they did a **** job negotiating the SOW or are having buyer’s remorse at what they agreed to. As an example, if a law firm posts and associate position and also retains a recruiter. If someone applies direct through the firm site or through a friend that works there, the recruiter typically does not get paid. That’s why they are always protective over what firm opportunities are with. It is WAY more likely this is the case than whatever else. Then again, this is Miami so god only knows.

Question: we fired Blake 2 weeks ago… why are we still “debating” whether we interview a guy that is not currently employees? We should past that point right now. If this is accurate where is the urgency. There needs to be a call on the HC (there only one correct one) asap and we are taking our sweet *** time?

Yes, it is still open. I posted this the last time we had a Jurich discussion.

The NOA is specifically against the basketball program staff and coaches, not all Louisville sports. Pitino is tagged with the "failure to supervise", not the athletic dept itself (or Jurich) . If you look at a similar NOA against the U of Arizona, their athletic dept is specifically called out and is also tagged with a failure to supervise, but that is not the case here. Some may say that there is no way Jurich didn't know what was going on. While that could be true, it's not what the NCAA is alleging. So yes- there is an ongoing investigation of Louisville basketball, but per the NOA, Jurich is not a subject of the investigation.

The school was ****ed at Jurich not because of any involvement in the Adidas scandal, but because he wouldn't punish Pitino after the story broke. Pitino is Jurichs friend, and Jurich made the unforgivable decision to wait for the results of the investigation before deciding on a course of action. In today's world, "waiting for all the facts to come out" is a fireable offense.

Doesn’t make sense that they would do that. It’s a reputation killer in that industry; nobody will want to hire them. I’ve never heard of a search firm act like that - strongly dislike the choice and advise against it? Sure. Resign because the firm is not being used as agreed? Sure. Threaten the school? Lol no. Strains credulity.
Especially making it known publicly. However got out. Will most certainly harm their rep with other clients; particularly colleges.

From my experience, if both parties have contacted each other at all prior to using a search team (or a recruiter), then the search team does not receive the commission. Based on this vague/minimal information, it seems like Turkey is confident that Miami will choose Jurich and therefore, they would not receive the commission. As of result, they are threatening to quit this AD hire process.

It could be good news and I am not sure why everyone is panicking.

I don’t have the contract, so don’t know for certain. But typically that is how it works in professional service or executive search recruiter contracts. If someone applies online or through a friend that works there, the recruiter does not get paid. It has to be someone they bring to the company. I’d imagine that’s not totally common in roles like this, but it certainly could in this case, especially if we have had contact with people for the past few weeks before Blake was fired.
