Josh Pate On Miami

1.) Examples? We can all hearsay on what we think is going on behind the scenes. Instead of conjecture on what we don't know and might never know, we can believe what our eyes are seeing instead. Passes into double/triple coverage, passes underthrown, overthrown, thrown behind, thrown to the ground, thrown to the defense, fumbles, phantom sacks, lack of pocket presence, etc. We have some common denominators to consider. Gattis is not here in 2024, Dawson wasn't here in 2023. Lots of personnel turnover. Seems to me you get to pick between TVD and CMC, so who physically touches the ball every offensive down and has been given a dumbed-down playbook of which 1-of-5 plays are called? Pundits year-round can voice how sad they were to see TVD with his 3rd OC--like anyone give a ****. The only crime these coaches have committed (outside of the kneeling controversy) is keeping Mr. Bimmer in the game.

2.) Two points; our team does not have a defense issue. In fact, one of the tragedies of this season will be that we had a championship-caliber defense that lacks an offensive productive enough to take this entire team to the playoff. This might have been our best defense in a long time--probably even better had they not been asked to carry this team all season long. Second, Morris was the better QB on the field that night and from what I can tell Armstrong was runner-up. Obviously, they were good enough to defeat the Canes by double digits, but they were a threat in the air and on the ground. We had to go one-dimensional because there is no trust to go up in the air. Pour one for Mark Fletcher's legs.

1. None of that precludes creative play calling. In fact just the opposite. TVD being cheeks means we should be dialing up more motion etc to create easy plays. You’re coping here.

2. I wasn’t bashing the defense. Our defense has been pretty stellar and the only bright spot this year. What I mean is that their OC with less talent against a better defense was able to muster up enough points for the W. Even though TVD sucks we should be able to scheme 21 against a crappy NC State team.

Once again all y’all look at is record. You don’t watch the games and you don’t change your expectations with time. The two best wins on the schedule are against teams that are 5-4. Just lost a game where you gave up 230 yards and didn’t score a TD. You lost a game bc you didn’t take a knee. You won a barn burner in OT via comeback fashion against a team who was 2-5.

You don’t pay $10 million+ for a staff to get these results.

Exactly.

Most fans have zero perspective once a few losses start piling up.

The emotion of running their mouths on message boards and social media platforms comes to a head and embarrassment kicks in with rival friends, co-workers or family members hits you with that, "So what happened to your Canes this weekend?" the Monday after a loss.

Again, there are examples all around college football that showcase how it takes time to rebuild.

Mike Norvell was 3-6 year one and 5-7 year two in Tallahassee—starting year two 0-4 and sitting at 3-6 on the season before 4th-and-14 and upsetting Manolo's beta Canes.

Their fanbase was melting down at this time two years ago—on the heels of a loss to North Carolina State, no less.

They wanted Norvell gone and were panicked that too much buyout money went to Willie Lump Lump to afford to get rid of the guy. THAT was the state of Florida State in November 2021.

A year later, 10-3 and by year four a 9-0 start and win-streak that just hit 15 games.

Lincoln Riley and his fast start last year, going 11-3 and smacked up twice by Utah—before losing to Tulane in a bowl game—and now on track to 7-5 this year, despite having a crybaby Heisman quarterback and a garbage defense that just saw him canning Alex Grinch this weekend.

Kirby Smart was handed a stellar program from Mark Richt; 15 years of consistency in Georgia, albeit never getting over the hump... took him until year six to win a national championship—as well as a $200,000,000 investment into football as part of UGA's "do more" campaign to get them over the hump against Alabama.

Miami football has been irrelevant for two decades; Mario the third head coach in five years and sixth in 17 seasons—but the fact this program is sitting at 6-3 (after 5-7 last year) where a pretty good quarterback has gone in the crapper with ten interceptions in two fumbles in his past three starts—y'all really can't see past that and notice marked improvement from the team of losers fielded in 2022, that was a direct result of Manolo's broken culture from 2019 through 2021?

Yeesh.
Couldn't agree with you more. These are my sentiments exactly, and the same people that jumped the gun to talk crap to their co-workers and rival family are the same ones calling to fire Mario right now and will be the same ones fighting for a front row spot at the National Championship parade if we get there. Not saying the guy won't fail cuz he might, but he also might not. Given the state of the program, he needs more time.

Do people really think we're finishing 8-4???....Lol....C'mon man.

I think theres still an outside chance for it. We have Louisville at home. I do believe Emory will be starting in that game. This is a pretty good defense. I wouldn't be surprise they beat Louisville and BC to end the year. Is that what I think will happen.......no I sadly don't

Go to BC in 25° weather and beat a team that had FSU beat is a tall order, let alone beating FSU or Louisville....as far as Home field advantage, that's pretty much gone.

Top to bottom? Everywhere on the field has been an improvement other than QB, game plan preparation, in game management, proper personnel grouping and usage. No one expected TVd to go "ryan leaf" mode mid season

FIFY. PLAYA

Scr3w it, I'm calling it I have Miami beating Louisville at home. It comes down to the BC game for that 8th win and I do not have Miami winning that game. Louisville doesn't scare me at all. Throw in Emory and lets play the game like we did against Clemson. Jack Plummer not scary at all

Yeah, sometimes coach speak is a necessary evil. You look like a plum fool saying this a week after this.

You could've legit made that apart of last week's interviews so you don't have to renege after your ride or die turns into less riding and mor dying.

I’m just wondering if anyone is going to sit out the BC game. If they are truly going into the draft and have nothing to play for.

They may not be as impressive but prior to this year we weren't winning those unimpressive games either. The year LSU beat us was Burreaux's first year and his stats were not much different than Malik Rosier's. And we still lost.
But we shouldnt even be in the position where we need to pull out wins against the teams we are having to - at least not on a consistent basis

I agree. And my opinion is that we are building towards not having to pull out wins in overtime against those teams. Others may feel differently about the direction we're headed. The only factor that will reveal who's opinion is right are the results over time.

I agree.

If we're being honest, 3 years really isn't enough time either...

Due to the Portal, it's probably gonna take about 5-6 years at least before the roster is fully filled with Mario recruits & evals.

And you make a great point about the Miami kids that need to be weeded out of the program & Mario is currently doing that right now. And when you look at our recruiting class, he's replacing them so that when we Portal out the Miami kids we can put Miami kids in place of them.
That settles it.

Dejaz is OFFICIALLY on record giving San Mario 15 seasons to make ACCCG appearance.

We love ya baby!!!

I agree with some of your points

But Mario’s keeps making stupid mistakes that makes it harder to give him the benefit of the doubt

Whiffing on coordinators year 1
2-4 per game Gameday egregious mistakes from a management standpoint
GaTech loss
Not grabbing a portal QB this year

I’m not ready to say fire Mario, but Mario himself needs to be better and evolve.

If he doesn’t, there’s no way he can recruit his way into a top 10 program, cause he will consistently hold Us back with bad hires and bad Gameday decisions that cost us games
Settle in tightly at least through Y5 buckaroo.

Some people won’t even give the man 3 seasons minimum before they sabotage the process.

IMO, coaching and playing at Miami is completely different than Louisville, Duke, etc. It takes a special coach and special kids. I also think, it’s more kids that need to be weeded out the program. Kids in USC (LA) and Miami have a lot more bs to navigate to focus on football.

It’s the same reason why Lincoln Riley will struggle to get USC to where their fans “expect them to be” quickly and that’s with a Heisman QB.

Everybody got a right to be upset at decisions that’s been made, I just don’t think 1.5 years through the process it’s time to hit the reset button.

Keep tweaking… lol
You don't believe this crap.
