Will def bring in grad transfer(s) after spring. Ain’t no way Mario taking this stacked roster without shoring up the OL

This is what I’m betting we are going to do. Just don’t see the staff resting on their laurels here and being content with the depth as is.

I think it’s fair to say line won’t be as good and needs to be considered an area of concern/watch, but that doesn’t mean it won’t also be serviceable/adequate.

Great time to develop and be more than serviceable by midseason and elite in 27.

I feel it’s a luxury to have our OL be the biggest question mark (I know TE too) going into next season with mirabal and Mario managing it.

Assuming we don't get anyone else, I think McCoy will be the LT. Buchanan the RG. Merriweather will be the 6th OL. I wouldn't be surprised to see SJ as the starting C if he can gain some good weight.

Samson pulling in gap scheme runs is a thing of beauty. Unless he's far superior to McCoy pass blocking at LT, I'd rather he stay at Guard, since we pull our guards more often than we pull our tackles.

Mirabel replaced all five OL starters for the COVID year at Oregon. They gave up 11 sacks in 7 games, and Dye ran the ball well (Verdell did too the first few games till he got hurt IIRC).

Cantwell being ready to start is a big key. If both McCoy and Samson have to play tackle that probably makes Merriweather a starter at one of the guard spots. That would be our weakest line, IMO.

Wildcard would be if Mirabel likes Wilkerson/Campbell enough to start one of them at tackle. I know he spoke highly of all the freshman OL during a playoff presser. Could just be coach speak. Doubt he starts a true and redshirt freshman at both tackle spots, but it's a possibility to consider.

Kinsler coming back I'd be down with, but he'd have to beat out Buchanan to start on the line. Everytime he came in at OT in garbage time I always thought he was playing out of position, had cement feet, and would never be a starting OT here.

I’ve been thinking about the config of the line a bit since I posted my version of the starters.

+ You shouldn’t have a RFr at RG and a TFr at RT.
+ In 2023, Mauigoa and Cooper got worked a ton by stunts and blitz looks.
+ Miami will probably swap Buchanan and McCoy to have a veteran next to Cantwell.

I may have missed where anyone acted as though the sky is falling. Perhaps I did, I'll read back a bit.

But if you want to deny that the OL in its current state is not a legit question mark/concern, than you simply want to deny the reality and truth.

Here is what the facts are. We currently have 15 OL on scholly. 9 of those haven't taken a college snap. 8 of them are RFR or TFR. We have 2 OL with extensive game experience in McCoy and Okunlola, maybe a 3rd in Rodriguez.

Putting together a quality OL from the list below will not be easy. And I don't mean elite, just above average/good. Forget about quality depth, that won't exist with this current group.

Rodriguez (RSR+) 2 career starts
McCoy (RSR) plenty of snaps
Okunlola (RJR) plenty of snaps
Meriweather (RJR) minimal snaps
Minaya (RSO) no snaps
Alofaituli (SO) handful of snaps
Buchanan (SO) handful of snaps
Campbell (RFR) no snaps
Wilkerson (RFR) no snaps
Cantwell (FR) no snaps
Congdon (FR) no snaps
Ervin (FR) no snaps
Pickett (FR) no snaps
Sparks (FR) no snaps
Woodrow (FR) no snaps

My wife is an LSU alumnus and I always rooted for them in the SEC and I liked Lane as a coach and how he handled other SEC programs (especially trolling Tennessee) and others.

I will be rooting against LSU moving forward just because of the smugness and holier than though persona of Kiffin and how he did Ole Miss dirty.

The resources and money LSU offers him makes him villain #1.

Actually good for college football. It needs other villains besides Miami.

So

LT Okunlola
LG McCoy
C Rodriguez
RG Merriweather?
RT Cantwell

Depth
Juan Minaya
Demetrius Campbell
Jaden Wilkerson
Max Buccanon
Seusu Alofaitula
Ben Cogdon
Joel Ervin
Cannon Pickett
You might be correct:

I would go, at least starting spring practice with the following:

LT - McCoy
LG - Samson
C - Rodriguez
RG - Kinsler (bring him back asap) or a combo of Earvin/Merriweather rotation like we had with Samson/McCoy this year.
RT - Cantwell

I hope you are right. I think we will have one of the best OLs in the country. My thing is when it comes playoff time, that’s what I think of. When the players we go against are way better than the acc.
Remember how everyone thought Bell was mid this time last year, that same guy went into the playoffs and shut down every so called elite DE he faced. Now here we are again CIS questioning if Mirabal will have this line ready to win the big games.

The truth is Mario and Mirabal are the best offensive line coaches in ALL of college football. McCoy will be the 2026 version of Mesidor, the guy who everyone wrote off because he was playing out of position. Once he gets to his natural position, Tackle, he will blossom.
