Jon Drummond and Chad Wilson....and a question for Pete.....

Golden won't do it. Its part of his bull**** persona to act like he's above it all. Hes a college football coach, what does he expect? Either accept reality or get the **** out.

If Coley was the Head Coach we would have had a top 5 class.
Moronic.
miami was under investigation, and now on probation. Under watch.

if what Oregon just got now happened to miami on probation, you guys would all be hoping we could even be as good as temple after what the NCAA would do to miami. And I'm not a golden defender so don't even go there.

but I'm not an ostrich either, hiding my head away from actual reality of the situation to back an agenda that suits my desires
Where in my post did I say anything about throwing money around? I said he needs to accept reality that there are handlers that he has to build a relationship with. He wants to be above that and its bull**** cause its part of the game. You can establish relationships without throwing money around. Some guys will have their hand out but not all of them. Why did Yearby stick with Miami. Cause according to Pete Coley had a good relationship with his handler. Pretty god **** simple

Lets not get silly now. No one is suggesting that UM shouldnt deal with any handler or mentor if they are on the up and up. If it takes some sweet talking and kissing @ss, and doing whatever we can to reasonably grease them, of course we should and certainly WILL do it. We did it with Yearby, Smith and others.

But Genron is not the same situation. That guy is an ADMITTED street agent, who has admitted taking money, has gone on RECORD saying that guys like him TAKE money, and was booted from SFE for unethical behavior. There are a bunch of hustlers like him all over 7 on 7, and THEY are the real problem, not just some uncle who is representing his nephew as a "mentor" and just wants what is best for the kid. Those situations I think its clear we can deal with and work with.

If we have to talk about two-bit street hustlers, it just shows the program - not just Al and Co. but UM Admin and Boosters, are still playing checkers where the big boys are playing chess. We need to do a better job of cultivating the big money. Not the nickel & dime street agents. But the guys who can add family members to payrolls without missing a beat. The guys who can connect people and move money and resources without ever being seen.

Ok, now we go from the naive musings of Pete to the utterly ridiculous. Yeah, let's just blow it out big-time . . . connect with a drug lord, open offshore accounts, shell companies. While the NCAA sleeps, we'll buy every kid in S. Fl.

Better yet, why not empower all the internet experts to purchase tickets to Miami games, put some asses in the seats and maybe create an environment that vaguely resembles major college football.

Who said any of that? I don't think you understand the business of college football.

So an administrator of this site thinks we should play ball with these shady characters? Interesting.

No disrespect, but I can tell you've also never done business in Louisiana.

It's not a matter of ethics. It's a matter of swimming WITH the current, not against it. Getting from Point A to Point B.

This is what happens when you bring in foreigners to run your program.

You're saying what I'm saying and actually proving my point by bringing up dudes like Smith and OT. Almost all these dudes have a 3rd party involved in their recruitment, that was my point. 90% of them are in the mold of the mentor like you mentioned. But everybody is lumping all 'handlers' into the category of Genron and that's just wrong, that was my point. Most handlers are of the mentor type, so alienating all 'handlers' is stupid, you're cutting yourself off from a lot of talent that way.

My point is that this black and white picture being painted like the staff wants no part of handlers or mentors, except Coley which is BS that's why I named the other kids. They already had a relationship with this mentor so they obviously aren't above it. *** the handlers, continue building relationships with the real mentors and that goes for everyone on the staff including Coley because he isn't peachy creme either, but for some strange reason people keep giving him a pass.

People assume playing the game means throwing around money.

This x100. Just a bunch of egos that need to be stroked. Stroke them all.

LOL. Yeah, dream on. Genron is going to steer a kid here vs the school that paid the "Mcdonalds and Gas money" because we stroked his ego. Just like all the other Street agents do.

I guess we blew our budget on Yearby's guy then.

Have you not read a single post Ive made in this thread?

Oh bull. You think if Shannon was playing that game we would have been recruiting the kids we did his last 2 years? Golden didnt just land at UM from the 4th dimension. He's been at other programs and knows how the game works. The difference is UM is under the NCAA, Yahoo, Miami Herald, SI, ESPN microscope all the time. UM Compliance probably has him on an ULTRA short leash after the Shapiro fiasco. Were fighting with one hand tied behind our backs.

No.

But I'm guessing it went like this:

Kids with handlers who signed with UM: their handlers were clean
Kids with handlers who signed elsewhere: bunch of dirty street agents

No. I have readily acknowledged that many kids have handlers/mentors, could be family friends, uncles, coaches, etc.... and not all of them are dirty or trying to make a buck. But when one is a notorious street agent/hustler, its a totally different situation. IMO the biggest single problem is the 7 on 7 circuit, its a meat market where every hustler in town is trying to get their hooks into these kids to make a buck. That is where our problem lies IMO.
