Vern arent you a teacher in So FLa? You know the game with recruiting in So Fla, you have even mentioned it numerous times here, that we cant expect to get some of these elite talents unless we are willing to pony up some $$$. So knowing that UM is on NCAA probation, and doesnt have those resources to compete against the big dogs $$$ wish for some of these kids, would you say the staff is doing a poor job on the recrutiing front? Considering that they cant do what you yourself have said needs to be done with some of these kids?
Yea Im an AP now.... at a high school in Miami...Some getting paid but its more than that...**** some recruits were on Floridas payroll and they still left. Eveyrbody aint getting paid though. I'm hearing all kinds of stories these days.. We will never be a top 5 recruiting college. NEVER!!! One hope is to get kids in that cant get in to other schools, we can do it were a private school..Maybe we can offer some kind of summer enrichment program..Old coaches tell me we use to get borderline kids under Dee we re not doing it under Shalala for whatever reason. A lot of the members on our championship teams would not be at Miami these days.. Our other hope is to start winning again 11-2 seasons..because these kids do not know anything about Miami glory years. Kids dont like the dolphins and dont like Hurricanes because all they know is losing. I see coaches coming from everywhere these days who never recruited down here im told...The floodgates are open.
Some of it is just bad recruiting.... Charles Gaines, Freeman, ..some coaches just didnt like dealing with their handlers yes Shannon. you gonna have to deal with some shady characters. Let me tell you this story Robenson Therezie wanted to be a cane. Miami recruited him late a miami coach came to the school and he was told that he wasnt in school even though he was right in class. Yall aint ready for crootin. WE still have the talent to beat DUke and Va TEch though. Winning will help cure some but it dont look like thats happening anytime soon..Ill still go to the games though... and talk **** with you guys to get me through the tough times
Be careful. Some posters around here frown upon reality.
I've been saying this. This season was set up perfectly and we overwhelmingly underachieved. It's concerning. Plus, this recruiting class seems to be closing with a whimper.
You took that whole post totally different than I did.
I agree we limped into the finish and it really left a bad taste as to what direction we are heading in.
But what I took from Vern's post, is basically what I have been trying to tell this board all year, and for years before that. Recruiting in South FLorida is a DIRTY business. People think that because UM is the home team, these kids are just lining up to play at Miami. Its not like it was a few decades ago. Most of the top players now have handlers, all sorts of shenanighans going on, its CUT THROAT. That is not to say we cant get some ballers, but all these people that were thinking we were just going to scoop up Cook, Sony, and every top player in So Fla we wanted were DREAMING. Yes, winning will help SOME, but its not going to magically help us grab every kid we want out of So Fla. UM never has, and the way recruiting has spun out of control, its only getting harder for a small, private University, with limited $$$, and already on NCAA probation, to compete with the insane $$$ and things that the big programs will do.
