Jeremy Kerr 2013 TE- Welcome to The U

I trust the staff knows more than I do but this pickup was kind of a letdown... Oh well, Welcome to the U!

Kerr's stats

6'5'', 236 lbs. | 40: 5.24 | Class of 2013

5.24?? I don't get it, maybe they want to make him a right tackle or something?

Just curious but why a letdown? We need TE's and this is one of the highest regarding ones in Florida. Obviously a heck of a blocker too.

Very very very slow.. That's why I mentioned they may switch him to RT or something cause he will be lucky to catch a dozen balls in his career.

I don't get some of you guys. Have any of you seen him live or asked his coaches or opponents coaches what they think about him as a player? We need TE in the worst way. We now have two committed and they seem to offer two different skill sets. How can any of you predict his future career stats? Enjoy the journey and stop trying to create these kids' future.

Where is that 40 time coming from? You provided no link. His scout profile (which are always suspect of course) says 4.7 He definitely doesnt look like he is that slow.

Even if it is 5.2....that's not exactly terrible for a 6'6 250 pounder. With some conditioning, he can get down to a 4.9 or even a 4.8......think Jake Ballard.

I just find it a little hard to believe he could be considered by some to be the best TE in the state after Heuerman and he lineman slow. JMO. Not getting hung up on a random 40 time personally.

This makes me feel better... Glad to know he showed something in person that his stat sheet and high school videos have not.

"Kerr spent the weekend on the Coral Gables campus and participated in a session of the Al Golden Camp, where he was named tight end MVP. Previously Kerr had visited the campus for Miami's spring game, where he was extended the offer"

If the tight end can block a defensive lineman on the edge of the offense, then you AUTOMATICALLY have a running game just with that single feature.

This TE does not need to possess great speed. The 5.0 time in the 40 will get the job done.

The only shortcoming to that is that he is not going to be able to clear defenders on certain pass patterns to help other people. But that is not that much to give up if you have the blocking.

Kerr is big, strong, and naturally is not going to be as quick and agile as the other type of tight end (Dobard). So naturally you then fashion your passing game with him in the vicinity of linebackers.

With that in mind, he must have soft hands and the ability to absorb a ball as he is being hit. With nearly every pass, he is going to be hit right as he catches the ball. So soft hands, being able to absorb the ball while being hit, is key.

Remember our coach was a TE... do you really believe coach Golden would have offered this kid if he has any doubt about his ability to play? keep in mind they offered this kid a few months ago. Until Golden miss more than hit with prospects these scouts services rate low(worlds end), he has earned the benefit of the doubt. At least in my mind...

Plus, they saw him on camp...I bet they test this young man as a pass-catcher TE all day long, since he came from a run oriented offense so, I have no problem with this commit.

Welcome to The U!!!!!

Wow, exactly what I was going to say. This kid reminds me of the type of TE Tressell brought to OSU*, and those were some very good college tight ends. Yes they werent ****, and none went on to be Pro bowlers.....but I'd much rather have a guy be great at the U and then disappear, then have guys like Sam Shields that accomplished more in one pro season than in an entire Cane career. Solid pick up to go with Dobard. This says to me that the coaches want to be able to run the ball, which should only help our QB's, and WR's. Now we just gotta keep getting speed on the outside, like the good ole' days.

As much as it digusts me to admit, Kerr would fit right in as a Tressell TE (*vomits*). Definitely a Big 10 type.

I'm fine with this pick-up. Either AG knows how to evaluate kids he sees in person or he doesn't. If he doesn't, none of this matters. And if he does, then ... well, good.

And AG was a TE. He knows what he's looking for there.

And, this kid looks like a future OT anyhow.
