Illinois is a good school. If he can get in there he should be good to go.
Illinois knows that he can't get in. They want to sign him and then steer him to a Juco that has a good relationship with Lovie Smith.

The fvck?!

CHAMPAIGN – When quarterback Dwayne Lawson announced he was committing to Illinois and would transfer from Garden City (Kan.) Community College, almost unspoken was the belief that another Garden City player would soon follow.

That happened this week when linebacker DelShawn Phillips, who led Garden City in tackles while helping the team to the junior college national championship, said he’d be heading to Champaign, too.

Phillips originally committed to Arizona and he’s a strong addition for the Lovie Smith and the Illini, who lose many of their key defensive playmakers to graduation including defensive ends Dawuane Smoot and Carroll Phillips and middle linebacker Hardy Nickerson. All three of those players are expected to have a chance to play in the National Football League, Smith said.

More important, it underscores what appears to be a building relationship between Smith and the Illini staff and the coaching staff at Garden City.

Trying to establish a relationship is different from having one. If thomas goes to juco he wont end up at illinois.

You are probably correct, but that is what they will try to do. They already know that they can't get him into school.

Should the Hurricanes pick up a commitment from Pouncey the wide receiver recruiting wouldn't stop there. InsideTheU reported on Tuesday that East Saint Louis (Ill.) High Top100 wideout Jeff Thomas has been in contact with representatives at Miami and we continue to hear some buzz that UM is more of a player in the recruitment that people think. Thomas has some academic hurdles that he will need to clear to become a full qualifier, but the door hasn't been completely shut on him gaining admission into a school like Miami. That's why the Hurricanes are involved.

Thomas is a dynamic talent that not only can stretch the field, but also make plays in traffic and run a jet sweep here and there. Illinois is the leader on the 247Sports Crystal Ball, but some think that the biggest threat to Miami right now is Louisville. The Under Armour All-American isn't expected to make a decision until sometime around Feb. 1's National Signing Day.

Derrick Griffin I believe.

That update definitely sounds positive, he's explosive and can catch. Top 50 player in the nation or close to it... Don't fret about his competition, Ezekiel elliot is from up that way too. He from east St. Louis which is one of the hardest areas( crime wise) to come from

It just feels like he really wants to be here like hes making a big effort to come in and play now in a great situation.

This dude Thomas shyts all over Harley. He's faster, tougher, and a much bigger all around threat.

FIFY

Illinois state playoff competition is no easy road. East Side usually dominates locally, but they really show their skill and strength when they play the teams from up North in Illinois' second largest classification(7a). Zeke's road over here in St.Louis in one of the smaller classifications is usually weak locally all the way until the state title game.

East Saint might be the roughest in the U.S. Brian Cox, the Dolphins Linebacker from yesteryear, was from there. If this kid has 10% of the anger Cox played with...he will crush it here with his skill set.

I have no idea where he signs with in February, but pretty certain he will be in the NFL playing CB within the next 4-5 years.
Very talented football player.

Rivals put out an update this morning on Thomas:

The skinny: Thomas wanted to commit to Alabama at one time, but it appears the Tide didn’t have room and now Missouri could have moved on. Illinois is in good shape and Oregon just offered, so it appears down to those two.

The prediction: Illinois

Oregon will make a push and he would be a great fit there, but he’s more likely to stay close to home now.

this makes me confident that Illinois is not in the picture for Thomas. get him on campus and we can make it happen.

Thomas + Pouncey + Smith? oooooo weeee. probably as good a haul as last years.

But the chances of getting all three are infintesimal.

His coach told a reporter yesterday that Thomas moved on from Missouri. Apparently Mizzou's relationship with that high school isn't good and Thomas doesn't want to play there.
