Again, based on relative talent, I just want to see a lot more of our WRs on a relative basis than our TEs, with less blocking TE sets this season.

Several issues to point out. In an ideal world you'd be right that we would utilize 4 wr sets more often early to establish tempo etc. however this isn't an ideal world and I can guarantee you we'll be running more early simply because of two key factors. #1 we're starting 4 brand new offensive lineman and all 5 of them will be new to their positions and each other. Only Samson will have playing time at this level at the position he's assumed to start at being left guard. That's only in a back ups capacity at that. Far easier to learn to sprint when you first learn how to walk. #2 chip Kelly's offenses from those times are essentially schemed out at this point. Coaches make millions for a reason. Once enough tape is out there preparation is simple enough. Lastly I don't give Dawson the credit that a lot do at this point. His play calling leaves a lot to be desired in my eyes and he can be very repetitive. I get it. When something works why go away from it. But it kept working because of our physicality and our running game. While everyone complained about all the five plays the last two years some of us explained it was intentional. We were sacrificing big plays early for the ability to wear them down late.

Good stuff and all reasoned out.

Hope you're wrong on the Dawson front. You're as close to the ground as anyone. I always assumed it was Mario dictating the wear-em-down behavior waving the four fingers in the air like a victory banner, and that Dawson wanted to be more creative earlier on.

Isn’t the ultimate question what’s best for Mensah? He’s the engine isn’t he? So what offense do you believe he would thrive in, because I’ll bet that our personnel groupings and play calling are based primarily on that. Dawson called the game differently for Ward than Beck. Probably per Mario’s instructions.

Mueller can do both. That’s what we need. A tight end who can do both and then Dawson can get really creative.

Lofton was hurt last year and is still among the top 5 returning TE’s in the ACC. I think he has 6-700 yards next year and 6 TDs

Just look at the supposed trick plays we run. You think that's Mario? I ask that only because they are very basic and mundane for a trick play. It's clearly not Mario or Mirabel calling that. Process of elimination shows you a lack of creativity from the oc. Not even saying that cause I know better. Just simple logic. Only people that factor into the offense actual play calling is Mario and Dawson. KB & Mirabal have titles but no access. Mario gives a canvas and says go paint. That's all Dawson.

He was definitely hurt all last year. 6tds is possible. But he won't get enough looks to justify 6-700 yards in this offense and I can't even blame Dawson for that. Way too many weapons to feed him like that. I love his game and think injuries has kept y'all from seeing what he can be. As a result of injuries he was overweight last year. We really like his game but we have options at the position itself. Can be argued if he's even the best one. Just let kids play. Key with him is versatility. Don't put him in a box cause he's nowhere near as effective like that.

Nah. He really didn't. Cam audible OFTEN and we utilized his strengths based on what we needed out of him to be in the best position to win. If we would've had the defense we had last year with Cam his strings would've been a lot tighter than they were. We couldn't afford to play a possession offense with that defense. We focused on our strengths and cam utilized that inside of a box. Beck had the offense set for him a specific way because of our defense and special teams. But I don't knock people for the ways they see it. Just not necessarily realistic. Personally I'm real glad for the schedule we have because I need to see a lot more out of mensah before I let him loose. Playing for duke in a year with a very weak schedule(much like ours this year)& the girls ymca previously doesn't give me that level of blind faith. He should be perfect based on what we need from him. But I gotta see it and letting him loose off rip doesn't necessarily mesh. Regardless of what he wants Mario and this defense will never say just wing it all day. It's a team game for a reason.

For you and the people who push this cam audibled alot narrative…Who comes up with the audibles for an offense lol..I know in most situations playcallers send a qb to the line with multiple calls so they can be prepared for multiple looks. So yea if cam audibled to something better thats still something within dawson’s offense

Saying dawson didn’t call the offense different for cam and beck is just so objectively false too. We have eyes, he knew beck had limitations physically and mentally. Thats why you attempt trick plays, to create a spark or big play because your qb can’t make them, we didn’t need that with cam. He had to do different things with toney to make up for beck and the lack of other weapons. We will see the difference this year when he has a more capable qb

I for one ain't sleeping on Lofton..I still wish we had him in the natty game, couldve made a play or two that first half instead of relying on Bauman's bum ***.. that catch against Ole miss was clutch hated to see him hurt after the play.

If Lofton can be half the player Harold Fanin was then that is probably his ceiling. I haven't seen any glimpses.
