Jarrett Payton tweet about Miami welcoming back former players

No complaints about this. There isn't a negative here with this at all.

The only negative in general though is how old most of them are. That's not their fault or anyone's, but I wish we had current NFL star power. There's a few that current recruits might get a tad bit excited about, but to most they're just some dudes older than their pops.

It was a different time and kids these days just see old people. ****, that was true in my time. Anyone 40 plus was old as **** to me, nevermind beyond that.
 
It’s not a negative but it’s also not something to celebrate like it’s earth shattering…

What's going on now is night and day from anything we e EVER seen. What we're being told now is not only are we wanted on campus and at games. But we're wanted at practice,in meetings. We're being told now we're wanted as mentors. We're being asked to help with the coaching to the point where even if we see an issue while coaching, to throw in our two cents. Richt was trending on a more scaled back version of that path. Mandy wanted us around as much as possible but honestly as players we didn't respect him or his staff and would turn into ****ing matches during spring at times. That's just not a good look on anyone's path and simply holds the kids back. Alfraud the first couple months said he wanted us involved till he realized we all saw through his coaches & there was friction. Onion it was more just hanging out with, much like with Ericson. Only jimmy & butch used us like weapons in his armory. Ways to sharpen what we got. But a far smaller scale than this.

Are you able to elaborate on what everyone seems to be missing or doesn’t know? I’m asking in all seriousness.

I always thought the former players were allowed back?

@Brooklyndee ....Once again spot on...and as you know, during the UM vs FIU game, there was a bunch of former Canes on Butch's sideline, and none on Lispy's. That pretty much tells you all ya need to know.

Absolutely. If y'all care to think back on it when Richt got here and welcomed us in film rooms studying with players,mentoring etc our defense in particular was at the best it's been in a long time. Especially at db and lb. That's not even debatable. That's just common sense. Why as a staff would you not want people coming in that have bled these same battles. That have lived this struggle. 9 out of 10 those of us that come back we were successful here atleast to some extent and went to the next level and succeeded there as well. You want to know as a kid what went into that struggle. What tips can you pick up etc. The key to the whole thing is managing personalities. However in this case we all universally respect Mario and we know how much this means to him. That goes along way with us.

Great to learn this. What’s changed between a year ago and today, if anything in this regard - like were you guys welcomed back with the same vigor and open-endedness then as now or did something move this into overdrive?
