Jalen Mitchell (Rockledge)

I'm not making any judgments about either player, but it's interesting to read that Jalen Mitchell doesn't have the speed to play here, but then I'm reading that Asa Martin is who the board wants. Mitchell beats Martin in every verified testing category.

Mitchell- 201 pounds, 4.65 40, 4.25 SS, 34.6" VJ, 41' Powerball throw, 104.94 SPARQ.

Martin- 195 pounds, 4.76 40, 4.32 SS, 31" VJ.

Mitchell is bigger, faster, jumps better (explosion). In fact, Mitchell tests like an extremely athletic player.

That short-area burst comes out on film. Real nice bounce moving laterally.

Brown knows backs. This kid isn’t Crowley but he’s a nice find and looks like a good depth piece if we go that direction.

The kid looks good. I don't think the speed is a problem. He's got enough.

If you're Toledo, or App State, or whoever was otherwise getting him...you're likely thinking that you've got a future starting running back if you got him. But, this is Miami and as a prospect, he's a little underwhelming considering how far down the list we've gone.

He's in the same spectrum as a Vincent Davis. A lower P5 or really strong G5 recruit. It is what it is...we are out here analyzing film of Sun Belt recruits.

Ya I'm talking eye ball test, he gets caught a lot and really doesn't pull away even when he doesn't get caught...Neither does Martin though. I'm fine with either/don't love either, liked DJ Williams better, but that ship appears to have sailed...Think they can play here, just don't see another gear with either at all. Obv home run speed is only one facet.

I remember Mitchell having some pretty impressive jitterbug type moves for a 200 lb. back at Paradise in the 1-on-1s...obv they were 1 on 1s w/o pads, but still. He's shifty for a big kid.

A 4.65 is a lot better than what’s Kenny Mac ran and this board was in shambles when he chose UGA. Moral of the story: you can’t please CIS, ever.
He also posted in 10th grade an official 7.10--60 meter dash (the only time he ran it) just off the national elite standard of 7.05. He has an excellent burst and very good 20 to 50 yard speed- most important in football as how many 60-70+ yard runs are there in a game?
His best 100m is 11.5 and he will probably improve on that this track season is he is not an EE ---remember DJ Dallas's best 100m in high school was 11.3 and Dallas has been pretty good.

Maybe, but RBs like OL seem to be tough to project. The NFL is littered with G5 backs.

Sure.

However, you need to understand that G5 prospects, on P5 teams may or may not turn into those NFL players. Its about opportunity. And those risky G5 players on the P5 level just don't get it like they would elsewhere.

That is why, IF you are Miami and you HAVE to dive deep into a position group...you go after more of a specialist. Maybe a smaller guy who wins receiving, brings a return element, etc. Just getting another back to throw on top of the heap of backs this deep into prospects list...those don't often end well.

Thank You. Mr. Roffers the voice of reason.

I remember when 4.65 was not slow for a RB. Maybe the 1980's. Mike Irvin was an elite receiver at 4.6.

I guess things have changed.

Do we ever send kids to speed coaches and how effective are they?
