Jahvontae Dean

The lack of common sense and football knowledge on the site is mind boggling. A 5 something 40 time for a D tackle? Nobody even gives a shlt.

Like if he ran a 4.8 it would make them a better prospect. LOL. Do people here actually think scouts are worried about a D tackle’s 40 time?

Not 40 time...but full athletic profile. 100% yes they do. There are a few athletic tests that project well to the pro game.

If Dean can turn his head around he can be a good corner, his instincts just aren't there

No worries I won’t be offended. Not saying he’ll have the career that shields has had, but I think his ceiling is higher coming out. Taller at 6’1” vs 510.5, has longer arms, both elite speed. Dean also had 3 picks as a senior and has had some more production than shields did as a senior playing corner.

Shields was new playing DB, had more fluidity in changing directions with better hips. Shields biggest issue was locating the ball in the air, but that could be tied to him not playing the position, though wasn't a guarantee. Not saying Dean can't have a long career, just not the same prospect. And again, this is when you do your work - find the top 5-8 teams you want him on as a priority FA. Build those relationships right now.

Also, if you have a PR/Marketing person (or you yourself), have them pitching feel good stories. Obviously not a national story, but focus on local media. Truly, that helps in the room with teams when looking at a late pick or priority FA, especially with his speed. Feel good stories don't matter for guys who are slow, but obviously that doesn't pertain to Dean.

To Dean’s defense he was a JUCO guy and only had 1 offseason in a D1 program so his ceiling is very high. He’s a better prospect coming out than Sam Shields was and he turned out pretty good. Still tied for the team lead with 3 picks this season.
I know you're selling, but he is not a better prospect than Sam Shields was coming out.

That's definitely the story I'd try to sell if I were you. I'd also add our defense's sometimes disproportionate weight on CB physicality - even when not playing press or out of context. I was one of the dudes wrong on Dean. I saw a guy who could change direction, had nice length, great feet and acceleration and thought he'd be a starter here. He plays the ball ok when it's in front of him. Obviously, we couldn't know he'd play (while at UM) the ball terribly when it's above him. Maybe that's something a pro position coach can develop. Not sure. But, I'd sell the **** out of it if I were you, too. Get him on a defense that emphasizes Dean's strengths.

Very true. I'm just telling you what I've been told. Miami's pro day numbers are widely known as some of the most inaccurate. They're all inaccurate....or should I say contain error. But there are a certain number of schools where the numbers published contain more error...and one of those schools is Miami. It's not the end of the world. Miami has done an OK job sending kids to the league who produce just fine when they get there.

All that being said, Choc Gray is not running sub 4.4 at the combine. But even a hand-timed 4.3 coming out of Miami is a **** good time for him.

Wasn’t that before Manny Diazat HS? Who actually does the timing, is it not scouts or a laser? I’d have to believe that that old mystique isn’t flying around any longer with Manolo at the helm.

I've heard it all.. Dean a better prospect than Shields. Smh

Hes got an athletic profile of an undrafted player...**** be lucky if he us drafted in the 5-7 range. Small, slow, unathleic.

I like (not love) the film. He's a good player...but the process was not kind to my dude.

I dont think NFL scouting is in your future. What a terrible take

Actually heard some interest in him at that if he can add some weight

I think he could excel there or for a team that have their corners play zone 90% of the time like Seattle.

He just got exposed alot playing Man Corner.

And he’s the Lawrence Cager of cbs as far as physicality based on his height. But the pats will turn him intan all pro in two years.

Choc ran a 4.3 Holy Jesus.

Richt sucks bro

No crap. Ever since Golden we seem to be adverse to speed instead of searching for it. Why do we keep finding out we have 4.3 type guys who never seem to be used well. Choc is a real big dude to have that sort of speed. Why do i think JJ, Howard or Butch would have found a way to use him.
