Jahvontae Dean

Up until that point, shields hadn’t had much film at cornerback either other than that final year. He was molded into the league to be a good cornerback not at UM.... so he was just as raw if not more than dean(who is raw in his own **** right). And last time I checked Shields went undrafted yet some of you talking like he was some mythical prospect in his draft process. With that being said he’s obviously went on to have a solid career and made a pro bowl or 2 after being undrafted which is good
Yea, Shields had SOME production as a CFB player, period. Outside of measurables, Dean showed poor instincts, no ball skills, not a strong tackler. He often looked like he didn't belong out there. LSU game was specifically disastrous for him.

Also Dean was the #1 JUCO corner in the country. He should’ve been redshirted his first year here so he could’ve had 2 full off seasons but it is what it is. Also tied for the team lead with 3 ints this season, and Shields never had one here. I’m glad you’re one of the rational ones here that can understand better prospect coming out of college doesn’t mean he’s necessarily going to have as good of a career as shields has had thus far
But Shields at least had production in general as a college player. He was higher touted as a prep prospect too if you want to bring up pre-Miami. He was a 94 on the 247 composite. I understand you're selling here, but trying to paint this as a rational perspective is nonsense.

Yeah just saw that after rechecking and has Dean at 2. Weird because other 247 articles state that Dean was #1 and UM’s bio actually states 1 and 2.

I think you're right, Dean was at #1 at some point. I remembered it wrong too, Sheffield left Bama for Blinn than ended up at Ohio state. I had it backwards.

Why is Dean getting compared to Shields? Shields has smooth fluid movement skills. Dean is a high-hipped stiff straight-linish athlete.

GB had to teach Shields technique from the ground up but he had natural movement that translated to any coverage or scheme. Dean is a developmental project for Cover 3 defenses. If he has to execute off-coverage, change directions or tackle in space it will be a struggle.

I like how the staff has recognized that Frierson is a straight-linish guy and preemptively moved him to Striker. Let him run and hit and roam in underneath coverage. But Frierson is much more physical than Dean was.

Shields was physical as f u ck, one of the best ST gunners to ever come through UM...Dean doesn't have those same redeeming qualities.

Trayone like I've always said should've been worked in as a WR from jump, Tyre McCants from USF was the same size as Gray and had a productive career.

Someone is going to steal Willis. If he plays with the passion he showed last year and stays sane enough to avoid suspensions he will be one of the best DTs in that corporate league.

He’s lightning quick, and that’s way more important than running fast in a straight line for 40 yards.

It will probably be a team that perennially makes it to the post-season.
A team that doesn't necessarily have high draft-picks, but always finds talent.
Teams like the Pats, Ravens, Steelers, Saints, etc come to mind.
Definitely not clown shows like the Fins or Skins.

Joe Jackson, Willis went down a couple of spots if not a complete round after the pro day. Willis can't be 6'1 and run a 5.2 40. Joe Jackson's claim to fame is being athletic but he ran a 4.9. Not good. We kinda know Jaquan was not fast and for him to survive his football IQ is going to have to be outstanding.
40 times for DTs are a mediocre metric. Hand speed, explosion, short area quickness, raw power, they are what matter.

So I haven't read pages 2 through 6, but I've got a guess as to what's been going on. The bottom feeders have managed to think of a way that Dean's performance today is a negative, right? If I had to guess, I'd say the problem is that he never looked that fast on the field for us. Or maybe that speed doesn't matter because he can't cover. That about right?

I saw Reports of Jackson running in the 4.74-4.78 range actually. What willis ran looked pretty slow but apparently somewhere between 4.88-4.98 is what he reported on twitter with a good 10 yard split which matters the most for dts
