You are not alone. I was so freaking lost last week that I actually downloaded a roster sheet to my iPad to reference for this game.

It isn't just that they have brought in so many new players. They also juggled many existing numbers that by brain was already wired for. It has always been tricky because they double up on so many numbers. But they don't even try to split the number shares to the scout team. Virtually every number is doubled with prime time players.

Then they have to pull that thing where they put different jerseys on punt returners or tight ends. That punt returner jersey is like witness protection since they put it on different people sometimes. I'm like come-on, you are just ******* with me now.

But we all know who 22 is now. That fumble play might be the purest close and tackle I have seen in Miami for years.
 
And to think we have a DC who knows how to play to his strengths - closer to the line of scrimmage. Outstanding game with several big plays mostly closing with lightning quickness and physicality.


*did give up one down the field - that was the concern of Oklahoma fans. Really key how Guidry deploys him. But let's face it, impossible to ALWAYS have help over the top for a corner.
 
Reminded me of Corn Elder in his last year. Laying wood, making plays, blanket coverage. Ended up being a 3rd round pick. I expect the same for Davis after that performance if he keeps on that trajectory. And he was likely UDFA when he came here

He gave up a couple passes, including the long one to Stewart at the end, but I think you have to weigh all of it together. Stewart’s also a really good player.
 
He may have played his way into the second or third round yesterday. If he keeps it up he may sneak into the first. The NFL loves corners who can cover and tackle.

I make no predictions as to his draft status. I just want him in the slot and moved around within our subpackages making "football" plays. I wasn't previously aware he was as instinctual of a football player as he showed yesterday. And, we really need those plays because some of our other players don't take the best angles or get lost in the flow. Davis jumped out at me in those scenarios.

I watched the condensed game and he made a bunch of plays yesterday. Wow.

This is the kind of player we've neglected for years. Undersized, but goes somewhere else and makes play after play and we wonder why the staff didn't offer. Glad he's here making plays for us as opposed to elsewhere.
 
Im watching the condensed game now and he made a few plays that stood out to me.

The first was the pass to Amari Daniels on third down, midway in the second quarter where he undercut him and stopped him just short of a first, which they had to punt

The second was late in the 2nd quarter. Another third down. He seemed to be coming on a corner blitz, saw Owens leak out into the flats. He veered off his blitz and was able to make the play on Owens for the tackle. Result, missed FG

Third was on their first drive of the 2nd half. 3rd and 5 deep in our territory, pass to Stewart, comes up sticks him and pushes him out resulting in 4th and inches. They are going to go for it, they are called for a false start. Settle for a FG

Next, was the fumble he caused on Amari Daniels. We just punted, up by 5. 3rd and 1, Daniels tries to bounce it outside and Davis comes out of nowhere, puts his helmet on the ball, causing a fumble that we recover. Resulting in a TD for us.

All of these were huge plays for us.

The play I referenced earlier…. them instincts and execution are just pure baller
 
Don’t think it’s necessary to make an entire thread about him until I rewatch so I’ll just tuck Couch’s name in here since he’s been a target of this board for a while

A beautiful play on the ball to seal the game last night was very fitting

He had some rough plays early. Good to see him recover some…
 
that stop he had on 3rd down late in the third quarter was MASSIVE and was a solidifying point in the game.

A&M was going for it, (but got a false start) then kicked a field goal, but all led by his one on one stop at the yard to gain

Thought he was just a cover corner type. Didn’t know he can be that physical

Would love to read your opinions on the angles you've seen him take. In a small sample size, they are absolute football plays. And, maybe you can chime in a bit on other players - specifically, DBs and LBs - with their angles. Cisco seems way better with angles, too. We need more of those types (of plays and players).

I love me some Kiko--I think he's the best true Mike we have had on the roster dating back even before Shaq. The angles thing is hard to describe. Most of it is effort, the rest is just general awareness. Some guys just get it. They understand alignment, formation, personnel, run fits, run leverage, pass leverage, down and distance, all of it.

That's why I believe some guys are born to play defense. They're either born to do so, or they have been playing consistently since youth football. There's something you have to have regarding instincts, body control, and ability to strike. An inexperienced athlete can learn choreographed offensive plays and play their role well--but defenders need to do it all in my opinion.
