Jackson doesn't want to be another Chickillo

Chickillo should be focusing on losing some weight this offseason. I think he makes a solid SDE and with some dropped weight will be quicker and more productive.

Anyone thinking his ideal position now is a 4-3 DT is delusional.

And why is that?

In the Florida game it showed that he is not a DT, his ability to take a double team was horrible, putting him farther inside will just leave more of a gap. The problem was the lack of depth on D-line. He is an edge rusher but we had no one for that position his freshman and sophomore year. Then came the problem with tackle. I feel that if he signed here 1-2 years after he did his career would have been much different but sadly that will not happen. Right now our defense is still really a 4-3 just with a stand up end, instead of 2 DTs and a NT, it's 2 DTs a SDE and an edge rusher.

Implying that he can't be made faster with the weight room program and weigh over 250.

Not to mention Chickillo was never really a speedy guy, he just used his strength a lot.

Chick was never an edge/speed rusher. Jackson is an entirely different kind of DE.

Absolutely, but hey he beat out Clowney for the MVP at the SSC, so he magically became this pass rushing beast in the eyes of some of our fans. Chick was a solid DE that was decent at everything, but his main strength was against the run. He is a 4-3 DE and that is it, because he sure isnt a 3-4 DE as he has lost any of the limited explosiveness he had by bulking up, and he was never athletic enough to play the JACK, which DJ is. Totally different players, plus the tweet doesnt even mention Chick.

Chick was never edge rusher, he won battles on his strength on the line, i personally would love him at DT JMO

Jackson will be a beast, our edge rushing is amazing mccord, the prophet, chad, and jackson scary edge rushing

If Chick wins his battles on the line with strength then why have his numbers declined? Why, as he's gained weight and gone through 4 years in the program, is he less productive? According to your theory it should be just the opposite.

Lmao my theory, its the truth the dude was never a speed edge rusher, he won battles in high school by over powering kids, i dont think you read my post right, i never mentioned his productivity here, thats what the other board is for, but just to humor you yea he has under performed, now is it him or the scheme (more likely)

In all honesty Chickillo should probably be going into his redshirt Junior season. He has been asked to play too many snaps the last 2 years which has likely hurt his production a little, but at the end of the day he isn't the dynamic DE many thought he would be. He's a solid contributor who works his *** off and offerd leadership.

Jackson has the athleticism to be a 1st round pick in the NFL in 4 years if he develops in the weight room and is used properly.

Never expected Chickillo to be a big time sack guy but I expected more than what he has done. Kid was highly thought of even before UA game. Its not like he was a project that just had one good day. The kid can play. The problem is the player development here has been ****. Chick like many others has gotten worse the longer he is in the program. He didn't look slow and unathletic as a freshman but 2+ years and 40+ pounds later he does. Not to mention the changes in the scheme forcing him to play a position he shouldn't be playing.

No one (including him) really knows what he'll weigh if he eats correctly and hits the weight program.

How do you know this? What's his lift numbers?

How do I know that it's a wild guess as to how he'll react to eating properly and being committed to a full-time weight lifting program? Because I know his age, height, frame, the thousands of cases of guys whose bodies react differently to nutrition mixed with heavy weight lifting, and the fact that, up until this time last year, he was a basketball player. The guy could potentially throw on 40 pounds of jack over his college career and actually increase his speed. Who knows. Taking an inflexible view (having a "top limit" as an 18 year old who hasn't had all the resources) isn't going to be optimal, though. It's not even realistic.

That's probably where Jackson should end up regardless. He's a prototypical stand up outside rush linebacker in a 3-4. He's not going to be beefed up and playing on the line. If he can get up to the 250-260 range he'll straight abuse O-linemen

Chickillo is a high motor guy with a big heart. Good locker room presence and plays smart. Reminds me a lot of Wes Welker and Larry Bird.

I don't care what anyone says, the staff ruined Chickillo's development. Sure he wasn't a quick-twitch guy like Clowney, but he never should have been 275+.

Just want to see the staff hopefully develop an All-American or two, if they can.

When is the last time we had a first team AA?

Anyone thinking his ideal position now is a 4-3 DT is delusional.

And why is that?

He's 6-4 and less than 280. That's not a DT in base sets.

But he can play the 4-technique in our odd front?

What's the difference?

He can most certainly play the 3-technique in a 4-3 depending on what we ask him to do.

He's not an edge player anymore, that's for sure.

Yep.
