There’s only so much of this you can take.

When former players start tweeting at a recruit this late in the process it’s like when you’re dumping your gf and she runs in the bathroom, locks the door “ to overdose on sleeping pills “ because she’s so distraught.

Good on ya, DMoney
No idea if this is a leak or intentionally put out to hurt Miami, but the notion that Georgia doesn’t develop OL and Searles is a dog coach comes off as silly spin. Georgia’s OL was so bad last season that they put out a 2nd and two 3rd round picks. Mario/Mirabal are definitely invested in developing OL and we’re gonna start seeing draft picks, but Smart and Georgia have produced significantly more NFL talent on OL. Just the facts, but still hope Cantwell ends up in Coral Gables.

First, nobody ever said you were an average poster. You know I don't think that of you.

Second, I made a very clear point. These are not binary "credit/no-credit" issues. I already said that I gave Lanning credit for converting guys who were already leaning and/or committed to Oregon to stay with Oregon. On the other hand, when someone has recruited a player to Oregon for two to four years, and then another coach comes in for two to four weeks, he doesn't "get full credit" for getting that kid to sign with Oregon.

Lanning was not a head coach somewhere else before going to Oregon. Mario was a head coach somewhere else before coming to Miami. Therefore, Mario had more of the overall connection to recruiting the particular players up until the point he left Oregon than Lanning was ever able to have before taking the head coaching job at Oregon. That should be beyond debate.

1. Josh Conerly - what in the **** are we talking about here? I would never NOT give Lanning a decent amount of credit for Conerly, since he did not COMMIT anywhere until April 2022. Sure, we can count him in the 2022 signing class, but in no way did he conform to the December 2021/February 2022 signing timeframe. But let's get the order of events straight. Mario offered him at Oregon in 2019 and Conerly took an unofficial visit to Oregon in 2019. So by the time Mario left at the end of 2021, he had been recruiting Conerly for WELL OVER TWO YEARS from the offer date, if not longer. Unfortunately, the 2020 COVID year intervened, so I'm not sure anyone visited any schools in 2020. Once Mario went to Miami, Miami immediately offered Conerly, but Conerly is from Washington, so it was no slam dunk that he would follow Mario to Miami. So this is one recruitment where we both have valid points. Mario recruited Conerly to Oregon for nearly 3 years. But because Lanning had more than 3 weeks to recruit Conerly, I will give Lanning more credit for landing Conerly, as he was able to recruit him for nearly 4 months.

2. Jordan James - this is a Lanning flip. Full credit. Mario/Oregon not involved previously. 10-month commit to UGa was flipped.

3. Dave Iuli - Washington kid who committed to Mario/Oregon. This is exactly the kind of recruit I'm talking about. A decommit after a coach leaves does not wipe the board clean. Sure, he visited Miami, no argument. But when Mario has recruited a kid from the northwest to Oregon for multiple years, and then Lanning comes in and gets a local kid to recommit after a few weeks, that does not turn him into a Lanning recruit. I'll give Lanning full marks on the development side, but any decent coaching hire would have been able to get Iuli to recommit to Oregon. It's a layup. And the ONLY reason I give Mario a decent amount of credit for HIS first HC signing class at Oregon was because he was the OC for the year prior and was already recruiting those guys. A guy who recruits a previously committed guy for 4 weeks is just making the PAT after a touchdown.

4. Jahlil Florence - Another west coast kid who committed to Mario/Oregon. Same as Dave Iuli. Decided he didn't want to follow Mario to Miami, and I'm fine with that. But let's not confuse the short-time work that Lanning did for the longer-time work that Mario did. Lanning converted the PAT, and Lanning gets credit for development.

5. Khamari Terrell - Lanning gets full credit for this recruitment. Does Lanning also get full developmental credit for this kid sliding over to Texas State? Just asking.

6. Kyler Kasper - As with Conerly above, I am more willing to give Lanning credit for Kasper because he did not commit/sign until April 2022, so Lanning had months (plural) to recruit Kasper. Again, a west coast kid that nobody expected to go all the way to Miami.

7. Justius Lowe - This one is an interesting one. He was from Oregon, 100 miles from the campus. He was only committed to Utah for a month before Lanning flipped him mid-January. I'll give Lanning credit, but we've seen this story a million times before, where a local kid decides to stay local once the new coach shows a lot of love.

8. Kawika Rogers - He's from Hawaii. Lightly recruited 3-star until Lanning called him. Lanning gets full credit, but he's more of a class-filler.

9. Luke Dunne - We cannot possibly be talking about a punter. I'd also point out that he committed in DECEMBER 2022. A full year after Mario left Oregon. Should not even be included on this list. Lanning gets full credit. Just transferred to Washington.

10. Emar'rion Winston - Again, one of the guys I'm talking about. From PORTLAND. Committed to Mario/Oregon for 2 years. Did he decommit? Sure. Did that mean he didn't want to stay in Oregon? No. Did that mean he wanted to follow Mario to Miami? No. Did Lanning spend a few weeks convincing a Portland, OR kid to remain in Oregon after having been committed for two years? Sure. Point After Touchdown.

Soooo...

Of those 10 guys...two of them probably shouldn't even be on the list (Rogers/Dunne).

Of the remaining 8 guys...five of those guys were west coast guys who committed to Mario/Oregon and were converted to Oregon re-commits by Lanning. Only 3 of the 5 visited Miami. I give Lanning more credit for Conerly and Kasper, as those guys did not commit until April 2022.

Of the remaining 3 guys...Jordan James was a straight steal from UGa. Lanning gets full credit for Khamari Terrell. And Lanning flipped hometown boy Justius Lowe back to Oregon from Washington after a month-long commitment.

Again, half of the 10 names you mentioned were west coast guys that Mario invested 6 months to 3 years of recruitment in, guys who were ALL from nearby (OR, WA, CA, AZ), and who were never going to follow Mario to Miami, even if we got some courtesy visits. And Lanning got lucky to have some extra time to recruit Conerly and Kasper, but credit to him to staying on those two.

I don't go base my conclusions on the 247 timeline. Context matters.

If you want to criticize Mario for failing to flip Conerly, Iuli, and Florence, that's fine. But let's not pretend that Mario didn't ALSO spend years recruiting those west-coast guys to Oregon in the first place. Not sure why we simply "flip the credit" to Lanning for a few weeks of damage control (or a few months in the case of Conerly).

You’re stretching w conjecture, but listen for sake of the board, & our propensity to post lengthy replies back & forth, along w the personal love I have u outside of Canes’ football, we’ll just agree to disagree. Bigger fish to fry w/in the next 18 months.

How can you not give Lanning credit for Luli??? He decommitted from Oregon, visited miami and then Lanning got him to recommit and sign with Oregon. It’s 100% a Lanning signing and direct win over us.

I explained it above.

Lots of guys decommit at a coaching change. Lots of guys recommit to the new coach.

Iuli is from Tacoma, Washington. He had a multi-year recruitment to Oregon under Mario, which is why he paid respect to Mario by visiting Miami.

We've had this discussion before, on west-coast Polynesian players and how hard it is to get them to come to the east coast. He was never coming to Miami. If you want to give Lanning ALL THE CREDIT for the entire 6 weeks of recruiting and relationship-building he did, and ignore geography and everything else, that's up to you.

I guess you were also surprised by Haulcy spurning his "former coach" and choosing to stay close to Texas and play for an SEC team. Shocker.

As long as Oregon hires a competent coach to replace Mario (which Lanning absolutely is), Iuli is re-committing to Oregon. No question.

If you don't know the answer to that, you never will.

Let's just say "illicit money" has entered the conversation. Once it gets to THAT level of competition, it is no longer about "relationships" or "position gurus".
It’s about money, yes. Please explain what illicit money looks like.
