Ivins with Intel on Henderson and Edwards

If we lose all four head-to-head DB battles against a program like UF, how is Rumph going to improve next year when vying for better DBs (Jobe/Campbell/Surtain/Hall) against powerhouses like Bama and Clemson?

Keep putting a good product on the field and develop a track record.

Will one more year for someone so inexperienced prevent a kid like Campbell, who Rumph couldn't have a more longstanding relationship with, from making a "business decision" and heading to Clemson next year?

We're outgunned here. To go 0-for-4 against a program in the state UF's is in looks like an ominous sign heading into the loaded 2018 DB class everyone's been raving about. Our competition at DB next year will come in the form of Bama/Clemson/FSU/LSU, not just UF.

Just got to keep building a track record. UF got those kids with the DBU bull****. We are recovering from years of DB underachievement and Rumph doesn't have a resume yet.

I think we will be OK and the early results (Jobe, Frierson and Ivey committed, Hall leaning to us) are encouraging.

To be fair, Hendo/Edwards were both committed to us at one point as well. I always try to be optimistic but hard to stay that way after possibly losing out on so many key guys at positions of need in the final weeks. And 4 of them being from south florida to a struggling UF team. Hope things get better but I won't hold my breath.

Unacceptable if both choose UF. It's staggering to me that anyone who watched our defense play wouldn't want to be a part of it, ESPECIALLY corners who will directly benefit from all the pressure our stacked front 7 will be applying. When I see kids from our own backyard consistently choosing to live in Gainesville or Tallahassee over Miami, it blows my mind.

regarding edwards, it seems like the kid just wants to get out of miami. also, theyre living in Gainesville or Tally for 3-4 years not forever. these kids have only seen miami and some of them want to get away from family and be on their own

while CJ was committed to us, he had to be convinced to stay on board last summer. if he chooses us tomorrow, its a nice pull by the staff on a kid who was as good as gone.

What D$ said. Improve to 10-2. Beat ranked opponents. Beat FSU up there. Beat Notre Dame. Win the Conference. Keep it manageable against Dabo and serve notice upon Clemson. Play in a New Year's Six Bowl in Prime Time.

Don't just be happy you beat the Mountaineers in the Dogsh1t Bowl.

Not only will They Be COMIN', we'll not have to worry about the Turds, and we'll have Jimbo worried about us.

If Florida gets Ewards and Henderson, their south florida cb class would be Henderson,Edwards,Davis and Wilson.Miami=Bandy, can't see how richt can keep rumph on staff if that were to happen.

Because he's going to give him one year to learn some lessons and improve

Because he is young and that's what coaches do...They learn. Not to mention he has another chance to continue the job he did on the field last season. And a wider net to cast from

Some of that Florida hall (Davis, Edwards) may be safeties as well...So it's not all on Rumph.
This is the university of Miami. This isn't Sacramento state, this isn't Idaho. There isn't time for a learning curve at this level. That isn't rumphs fault for taking a job he is not qualified for, it is richts fault for offering it to him.

If he doesn't pull in the top db class in the country next season he must be fired. If he is not, we need to worry more about richt than we already are.

It's rumphs fault that him and Banda has recruited him as well as a recruit can be recruited, those close around the recruit pushing for Miami and he still wants to go to play for uf when they didn't even send a position coach for an in home visit? Sounds like someone who had no intention on wanting to be here

Sometimes, kids make decisions based on what they want to do. Not based on some adult flirting with them.

Y'all seriously act like this is the recruiting part of a dynasty mode in NCAA Football. Like these are actual human beings doing whatever they want no matter the school's proximity and next season's depth chart.

Don't be your usual white knighting moron self Brock. There aren't consolation trophies in this business. If they couldn't see earlier on that he was never coming here and finish empty handed that is a failure and their fault. If they could see that and thought they could overcome it and don't, they have failed and that is their fault. This forum knew Edwards wanted to be a gator, and has for months. The staff is ****y, and green, they didn't and our class is a ******* disaster at 4 out of 10 position groups as a result.

This may all go away with a couple surprises tomorrow, but as it looks now, the staff has been a failure in their recruiting bump year. Since richts experiment at getting the local young guy is a failure he needs to move on from him and get either an established recruiter, or an established coaching track record. This was a huge gamble from the get go and will in all likelihood justify the concerns of the naysayers at the time of the hire.

I actually agree, got to identify if recruits are enamored with another school earlier on so you won't get spurned in the end. Start that vetting process early

I agree with this. If Young takes the next step in his development along with Bandy coming on, it will definitely help Rumph out.

But yeah, I see us going grad transfer. Given what we got out of Colbert, I'm not mad about it.

Yup.

And it's not like we're selling a Golden/D'Onofrio defense. Kids should be beating down the door to play in Diaz' scheme.

That's part of my point. The fact that UF may beat us, 4-0, for DBs in South Florida by selling DBU bulls*** from their previous staff is exactly what makes it a damning indictment. We couldn't overcome that, but Clemson will be pitching how they just won the Natty when pursuing Campbell. Bama is Bama. LSU keeps sending top DBs to the league and Raymond is still there. Our competition is going to be ramped up big time for even better players.

Hard to be encouraged by where we stand with 2018 recruits a year in advance as it's largely meaningless. We're fortunate that Frierson & Ivey appear to be diehard Canes, though. And no one's going to be crediting any staff member for inevitably landing Al Blades Jr. for obvious reasons.

But every top program in the country is going to be making pitches for the likes of Jobe/Campbell/Hall and other top DBs without UM ties. Rumph/Banda won't just be going up against UF's pitch a year from now.

I can see the catalog of excuses are already being warmed up...but make no mistake about it whiffing on an elite CB with great size and speed from a high school in the HEART of Dade county would be a huge fail.

Henderson is EXACTLY the type of kid that's been leaving town all too often over the last 10 years. We paid Mark A LOT of money to keep **** like that from happening.

It's time for Mark the recruiter to make up for the sins of Mark the playcaller. A couple more wins during that abomination of a 4 game stretch and the perception of this team would have been much higher and helped even more during recruiting. If the excuse is going to be "he needs his own players and better players to compete at an elite level"....well then now is the time to secure those elite players.

OK well the other poster didn't say "next season"...He said this season. I Agree that improvement needs to happen now.

Here's my take on this issue for us as fans (particularly on this site)...

The best thing we can do is be more realistic... The reason everyone loses their **** when we lose all these battles for kids is because we're expecting something that just isn't real, based on many variables obviously, but the results tend to be the same...

It's very simple, adjust your expectations...

Stop including Surtain Jr among the 2018 CB's to get, we haven't been recruiting him as heavy as other kids we're after & even if we were he's not coming. We all know this, there's no reason to get super disappointed or upset that we'll miss on him because we don't have a shot, REGARDLESS of what anybody says & I mean anybody... Including Pat Jr himself.

Jobe will probably end up at Bama, I know I know... Pete has said he told the staff he's a 305 guy & he'll take some visits but he wants to be a Cane & yadda, yadda, yadda... But I would be absolutely shocked if he stuck with his commitment to Miami.

Our 2018 DB list, should be:
Al Blades Jr, DJ Ivey, Gilbert Frierson, Gurvan Hall, Randy Russell, Tyson Campbell, Trenell Troutman, Traquan Butler, Miguel Edwards, Marquis Williams, Stanley Garner & Smith from Oxbridge.

We should also get in the game for Asante Samuel Jr before it's too late & I know everybody is scorned by out of state kids, but there's some good DB's out of state as well.

Now, we clearly will NOT get all of those DB's, but we can get 5-6 of them, we just have to stop putting all our eggs in one basket on one kid & make sure we stay on all of them until NSD 2018.

The staff also needs to put in place plans for as many of these kids as possible to be EE's & start working with them now to ensure that if we do land them that they'll qualify.

And sidenote... *whispers* (we gotta cash these boys out)

UF had the 5th ranked defense in the country. They were ranked 2nd against the pass. So all this talk about a kid wanting to play in the scheme Diaz runs is pointless. Not only do kids rarely notice **** like that, but even if they did, it wouldn't currently be in our favor. UF is very solid on defense and they might send two CB's to the NFL in the 1st round. That's reallllllly hard to recruit against.

We had a CB go in the 1st round but it wasn't under Richt's staff so we can't even use that to our advantage right now. It's alllll good. We've got Diaz running the right scheme and we're pulling in enough defensive talent to change the national perception of Miami defense. Plenty of the guys we have on defense right now will go early in the draft and we're adding more NFL caliber DB's via recruiting. Soon we'll be able to pull that "NFL card" routinely.

We get both tomorrow... don't ask me how I know, I just do. Will reveal my sauces after they announce

That's pretty pathetic, especially given our need for CBs (and availability of playing time).
