The primary diagnosis is a relatively new tab on AHCA's webisite and they even announce that here. This is part of the issue people had with the way FL was reporting. They only showed cumulative hospitalizations without breaking out suspected vs positive vs primary diagnosis. AHCA's doing that now, but they only show the current stats.

Debatable on what is the leading tracker (unless that has been decided elsewhere), but ok. There is a clear inverse relationship between current hospitalizations and deaths. Which means that some of those that were hospitalized have likely died. Not good.Here is the leading database (COVID Tracking Project).

This is from data provided at covidtracking.com, it's run by the Atlantic, which is definitely no a right wing group and it's what NBC used for their sensational report about record hospitalizations. As you can see from @DMoney's link, they only have cumulative hospitalizations, so you have to calculate net new hospitalizations. There is no way from that to tell how many people are currently in the hospital, the number of discharges, or the length of stay. The AHCA link I gave earlier has a tab for currently hospitalized with a primary diagnosis of Covid, but that's new.

If the herd immunity theory applies here, Florida is probably another couple months from seeing real traction and beating this thing.

The state dashboard is from the FL DOH's reported numbers that are the same as covidtracking.com.

The media is reporting a record in new hospitalizations over the past week based on the data provided. That is different than currently hospitalized; people may be discharging or dying.

They may also not have had a primary diagnosis of covid. That's the point. I've given you tons of sources. If you really, really want to believe things are worse off in FL than they are, go right ahead.

As I've mentioned previously the Florida AHCA defines a COVID-19 hospitalization as, "primary diagnosis of COVID-19." The state dashboard cited in most of these news articles get its hospitalization data from the AHCA.
