Here's the thing.
People can say whatever they want in order to justify whatever they want you to believe.
Here's the reality. Isaiah Horton had his one good year (56 receptions for 616 yards) playing with a QB who only decided to join Miami in mid-January.
And as for his "faith in the QB room", let's think about this. Outside of Cam Ward, it's the same QB room he had all year. He's got 2 years to play. And Horton knows Nickel is coming. But instead of waiting to see what Miami would do in the Portal, he chose to leave immediately.
The Pop Tarts Bowl was on December 28th. But we were pursuing John Mateer before then. Horton put in his transfer paperwork before Mateer committed to Oklahoma. And let's not forget how quickly Horton was crystal-balled to Alabama after he entered the Portal. Or was the crystal ball BEFORE he entered the Portal? Because everyone knew where he was going.
The reality is that he got WR1 money to be WR2 at Alabama. And that's his choice.
But let's not let Horton turn this into some "he didn't have faith in the QB room" pity party. That wasn't what he discussed with the coaches, and he sure as **** didn't wait very long. Miami was obviously pursuing a QB in the Portal, but instead he's going to be playing with Ty Simpson instead of Carson Beck. In THREE SEASONS, Ty Simpson has thrown the ball less (for fewer completions) than Emory Williams had in 2023. That's not a great sign.
So, yeah, whatever. Isaiah Horton can say anything he wants. Doesn't make it true.
