Is NC State Actually Good?

For some odd reason, I think we roll in this one. I think the cheeks finally unclenched a little last game. I saw guys having fun for a change. And just maybe, and I stress maybe, MC keeps his foot on the pedal until the last whistle.

Canes need more of this vs NCST. Cam was very good at this play and he hit numerous guys for big plays/scores with it. Beck can do it. He has plenty of arm and accuracy. I think NCST secondary will offer opportunities.

IMO the massive difference is in the defensive run game. Yeah, SMU is terrible against the pass, and we didn’t exploit it. We should’ve thrown the ball all day. But they’re #9 nationally in YPC allowed. They have a good DL, they are good in the run game.

NC State is SMU bad against the pass. But the difference is they suck against the run too. 86th in YPC allowed. We should have success no matter what we do. Our backs had 32 carries for 144 yards. 4.5 a carry. As with most of what we do on offense, that’s just average. We know we’re too stubborn to just lean into the throw game no matter what, so at least against NC State we can and should be able to run more successfully to possibly create some explosives and put us in manageable down and distances for the throw game.

It’s simple. If Dawson goes back to those crunched sets and keeps running that straight A gap stuff, we’re going to keep struggling to score. It will be another SMU situation all over again.

Spread the field. Run 4 or 5 wide receiver sets. Use fewer tight ends. Get Pringle and Upshaw more involved. Pull more. Run misdirection. Use motion. Take chances with Beck instead of holding him back. Do this and you’re easily, EASILY, averaging 38+ppg with this roster. Maximize your ******* talent and stop being soft.

This is what I’d like to know. Is it that Mario/Dawson/Mirabal are too **** stubborn or do they lack confidence in Beck?

The former just ****es me off. It’s like the our offense philosophy is “We know your pass defense sucks. We know your secondary gets torched often. But, we are going to ignore that because our perceived strength on offense (running the ball) will win us this game.” Instead of attacking our opponents weakness, we rely on our perceived strength (which isn’t even a strength!!).

That’s exactly what we did against SMU and for the most part against Syracuse. Beck’s longest throw of the game was 19 yards. We took zero deep shots. And, yes I know Syracuse played with 2 safeties deep, but c’mon.

we need to open up becks game regardless of the turnovers. also, go up tempo from the very beginning. no more 30 seconds time suck. **** your time of possession bull**** mentality.

let beck go into three step drops with quick passes and up tempo. let him get into rhythm. the only way we have a real shot at making any noise this year is by allowing beck to open it up.

our run game is trash with the scheme we run and the run blockers we have. its also predictable (miss me what pulling out trick plays in the middle of a blowout against a **** team).

If our offense in the 1st half looks like either of those games, it'll be 21-0 before we know what happened.

If the offense figures **** out, we should have no problem on Saturday. Believe it when I see it. I think we're closer to the 2nd half of FSU/Louisville/SMU/1st half of Syracuse/1st half of Stanford type of offense than we are anything else. Its shown itself over and over every game of the year.
