Is FSU Actually Good?

Too much time to wait for this game so I'd like to do some rampant speculation based on small sample sizes:

I am sure both teams are going to come to play, but do we think FSU is actually good? If we are being real, the comfortable home win over Bama is one of the best wins of any team in the country to date and the offense looks explosive. But they are also just -6.5 favorites against Virginia this week (yes, on the road) and Virginia isn't bad, but they aren't good either.

Quick thoughts:

- I think Gus Malzahn and Tony White were excellent coordinator hires.
- I think Castellanos is REAL dangerous as a runner, especially in Malzahn's scheme, but I am not buying into the idea that he is an improved passer yet.
- I think their running back room looks pretty solid. That Kromah kid is a big boy.
- I think the Front 7 as good if not slightly better than what we saw from ND and UF.
- They are not very deep, especially in the secondary.

I am confident Miami is the better team.

If I had one big worry? Castellanos' scramble ability can neutralize some of our pass rush and we are still prone to giving up a big play or two in the passing game. If we keep Castellanos and the receivers in front and make them sustain drives, we should be able to beat them on that side of the ball.

Beck and the passing offense will be critical, because that is the best way to beat the 'Noles defense IMO.
I’m actually scared for their qb… Miami was trying to kill Lagway on his runs.

FSU will not be as conservative as the Gators which I am excited about.
Sure, there is a potential for big plays but also turnovers because they are actually going to try and attack us. I expect some tip balls for picks and fumbles cause Castellanos will try and do too much instead of just being patient in the pocket.

Agreed, FSU is really fellin themselves and if they smack UVA they'll come in way overconfident and try to do too much. Miami should run the ball down their throats.

Will be watching Friday's Virginia matchup very closely as a true test...

- Bama in that game was a shell of what bama was, so really hard to crown them for that win
- 2 cupcakes tell you nothing
- As folks said.. they are better than I thought, but still not believe they are a top15 team
- their fans will come out in full force, will be a tough crowd, as opposed to that I thought they'd be 2-2 going into our game...

I think it is really important for the offense to stay on schedule and to win the turnover battle. We absolutely can’t fall behind two scores. If we do, that Malzahn run-heavy offensive scheme will eat up clock and will also minimize their need to rely on their (IMO, average) passing game.

Yes. I think they are actually very good. Alabama has elite analytics and they stomped them.

I would probably have FSU as the favorite being at home, not a prediction, but a betting favorite.

Curious what makes them very good given their OL is made up of ok portal adds and their DL is missing the dudes they typically have.,

Apparently those analytics didn't indicate Ryan Williams may get hit by an opposing player.

Hey look, an unbiased and honest opinion! The narrative that FSU caught Alabama might be napping might have some truth to it, but I also think FSU is actually pretty good and people are letting 2-10 cloud their opinion.

I think I've put together a pretty good system based on FPI, and it is currently spitting out FSU 34 Miami 22.

For real have no idea where that guy came up with that take about their front 7 lol
I don't think it is that egregious. Darrell Jackson is better than anyone on ND or UF, Daniel Lyons is experienced and impactful and the Desir twins are going to be good too.

They definitely don't have a ton of depth, but they won't be a pushover either.

Narrative notwithstanding, anyone who watched that game saw Bama played horribly. They were not prepared. That doesn't preclude FSU being good.

EL O EL....

They could put 9 OL on the field and they still can't block our DL.....this will be a bad matchup for them.

We are going to beat them up!

Plus, Hethermen has two weeks to prepare for the mickey mouse QB and offense???

PAIN!!!!
