Is FSU Actually Good?

Stanford is the Trap Game?
It better not be...if The Cardinal scores even 7 points, I get the feeling CIS will go pollo lococito meng.

I suspect they are the weakest squad remaining on tbe schedule, but Miami can take no contest for granted to achieve their goal of ACCCG appearance.

I'm still not convinced powers that be give ACC runner up CFPO slot, even our Canes.

Talk about message sending from SEC and B1G as to "who runs college football and don't you forget it" right?

And what is ACC or anyone gonna do? ***** and moan on social media? How'd that work out for FSU?

We haven’t played in a hostile environment yet. That’s a big variable. Nor have we played a QB like Castellano, who btw has some elite speed around him. We can’t let that track star get loose. I don’t think they have a great defense, but at home in front of a packed house defenses tend to play above their grade. They are going to make Beck beat them.

Miami's Offense is designed exactly to keep QBs like Castellanos off the field and Miami's Defense fresh.

While a dangerous runner, he eats up clock as well. Not ideal playing from behind if they can make him one dimensional.
TC also has to stay healthy until then. Already came up limping trying to dump on a vocational school.

lucky for us, the last time Beck played them he only beat them by about a thousand

I agree with the hostile environment take, but we have the counter for that: A physical run game. Some of the early Saban Alabama teams use to do that. They would beat teams into submission. All that screaming don’t mean ****, when you are just lining up and tossing they *** 8 yards down field every time.

You are making this determination based on the Bama game? One game sample size?
Exactly. An Alabama team that was half asleep all game, and shot themselves in the foot as many times as FSU shot them.

FSU's front 7 is not as good as Florida's. Also, their O-line is not as good, thus all the movement. They want to get the ball away from that OL as fast as possible, because they know what will happen if their QB just drops back.

We need to be ready for that, and I think we will be.

Talk to me Friday night.

Weeknight road games are weird.

And as much as we talked about rat poison here, what do you think is happening there? That team was the laughing stock of the entire sport, if not the entire SPORTING WORLD last year. Now they're great again. Those boys are walking around Tally feeling REAL good about themselves.

UVA can score points. So let's chat on Friday. No matter what happens, you'll never convince me we'll actually lose to them, but I might take notice if they win the game 45-10.

But they're a 7 point favorite, and the line hasn't budged since it was released. I don't think people are running to the window to lay 7 on FSU.

Thinking their **** don't stink, first road game, weeknight game on national TV, against a dog that can score, with everyone talking about the Miami matchup in 2 weeks. Don't get caught slippin', Mike....

I haven't seen anything from their passing game that worries me. All they do are 0-5 yard dinks and streaks that take 3+ seconds to develop. Tiny Tommy won't have that long to sit and wait for those streaks to open up. We've already gone against a high pace offense with a running QB and we shut them down for the most part. I'm sure they'll hit a couple big plays on us but I don't think they'll move the ball consistently. I'd be willing to bet they try and hit the reverse to Danzy they've done every game thus far within their first 3 drives. Our D will need to look out for them faking that reverse as well.

I've got 0 concerns with our OLine against their front seven. We'll rush for 200 if we want to. Bama's WRs were getting high school wide open against their secondary as well.

They are thin on both lines. They'd have no shot containing our DL if they didn't run all this gimmicky BS. But Bain and Mesi are incredibly disciplined. My biggest concerned is our LBs being in constant conflict down after down.
They will do everything to attack our edges. They're the only runs that have been successful vs us.
Their DL is thin and I expect a lot of what we saw vs UF against them. We are going to impose our will and wear them down.

I’ve watched a good deal of them. OL/DL is not in the same stratosphere as us. They are not as physical as UF and haven’t been challenged yet in that regard.

Castellanos is electric and they have guys on the outside who can go up and get it. However, Castellanos has not faced a pass rush like ours and I think his stature will be an issue for them with our rush getting in his line of sight.

We will need to keep contain against read option and jet sweeps. They will not have consistent success attacking us up the middle, they just don’t have the bodies for that. They like to PA deep down the middle of the field and our corners will be tested.

Contain Castellanos and they have no way of beating us.

I think we are better and we will beat them. The variables being they are at home and it is a rivalry game.

Speaking of Saban and those Bama teams. As talented as they were, Gus who has self destructed everywhere he has went after the initial shine and luster wears off, always gave those Bama team fits.

Too much time to wait for this game so I'd like to do some rampant speculation based on small sample sizes:

I am sure both teams are going to come to play, but do we think FSU is actually good? If we are being real, the comfortable home win over Bama is one of the best wins of any team in the country to date and the offense looks explosive. But they are also just -6.5 favorites against Virginia this week (yes, on the road) and Virginia isn't bad, but they aren't good either.

Quick thoughts:

- I think Gus Malzahn and Tony White were excellent coordinator hires.
- I think Castellanos is REAL dangerous as a runner, especially in Malzahn's scheme, but I am not buying into the idea that he is an improved passer yet.
- I think their running back room looks pretty solid. That Kromah kid is a big boy.
- I think the Front 7 as good if not slightly better than what we saw from ND and UF.
- They are not very deep, especially in the secondary.

I am confident Miami is the better team.

If I had one big worry? Castellanos' scramble ability can neutralize some of our pass rush and we are still prone to giving up a big play or two in the passing game. If we keep Castellanos and the receivers in front and make them sustain drives, we should be able to beat them on that side of the ball.

Beck and the passing offense will be critical, because that is the best way to beat the 'Noles defense IMO.
Why on earth do you give their front seven such credit? They are not near ND or UFs.
