Is anyone concerned about DE group going foward?

Blissett has to move I’ve to DE fulltime. What concerns me most is that our DEs are light as ****. Average of 6’4 240 is not good.

I'm absolutely concerned. The DEs have talent but they are all on the smaller side (all less than 250) and haven't shown they were ready to take that next step just yet in their limited snaps this year. I was expecting a heavier DE rotation as we saw in previous years and when that didn't materialize, to me it signaled the backups weren't quite ready to take those minutes. Maybe i'm wrong.....just how it looked after seeing trends with this staff before.

Harvey is the guy who showed me the most throughout the year. He had some mistakes but he also flashed a few times.

I would personally kick Blissett back outside and see what he does in the spring with reps. He has struggled to keep on weight but was extremely athletic coming in. It makes no sense to have 260-265 pound DTs on anything but rush subpackages and we could use to size/strength outside against run teams like UNC.
I think rotation was less frequent because we had a first rounder in Phillips and a mid rounder in Roche out there. I agree I would've liked to see a little more rotation either way though.

Agreed. People are overreacting because the DE group is young, but most if not all of these guys were highly recruited out of high school and have plenty of talent. Is there a Rosseau or a Phillips in this group? No, but 1st rounders don't grow on trees for us anymore. But this DE group has depth and versatility. Just need a couple of guys to emerge as the clear favorites to start. Hopefully Cam Williams and Harvey have a big statement to make against Ok State.

I'm more concerned about CB and LB.

Hopefully these guys get as much of a full offseason as possible to allow them to develop both in the weight room and spring practice.

I assume the order of worry is this:
1. CB
2. CB
3. DE
4. LB
5. Another CB?

If King is gone then QB becomes #1, otherwise if he comes back this also saves us another transfer spot which is huge. I would love another WR (find an KJ Osborn type) and we also cant turn down a legit OL player either. We really need like 6-7 spots and i think we have 3...

We're also talking about two kids in Cam and Jahfari who are in their 2nd year in the program. Not everyone is a GR15 where they flash from day 1, especially on the d-line. Jaelan Phillips was a bust about to retire after 2 years of CFB, and nobody knew who the **** Quincy Roche was at that point. Give it time. We have kids with elite traits for the position, thats pretty much all anyone could expect outside of the Will Anderson/Myles Murphy type Day 1 Freaks

Phillips didn't start the season playing like that - he improved as it's gone on.

Plus with an uptempo offense this season, the defense was on the field for 72 plays a game. That's a lot to ask of any player. Only 39 teams averaged more yards/game on defense.

Well, with Phillips and Roche opting out the next men up have a week of practice reps and the bowl game to show what they can do.

I'd have to go back and look at the snap counts, but it definitely felt like we rotated our DE's more earlier on in the season than we did in the back half of the schedule. Seems like it happened around when Phillips hit his stride

harrison-hunte was a huge loss during the UNC game. he has flashed this year and he has been out with COVID/elbow injury.
Was he? I have been driving the JHH bus since game 1, but his talent is getting upfield and disrupting.

My opinion: him playing would've just opened one more cutback lane for UNC to exploit.

I love JHH. This is a knock on the scheme, not the player.

LT is not a d end. stop even thinking he might be. not a chance he sees a down at d end. clueless.
