Interview with Rob Likens

I’d love for Lashlee or Likens to be they HC here if Manny fails. Likens is gonna kill it here regardless. If your a S. FL WR how do you not wanna get coached up by this guy!? He’s gonna get you to the league.
I can totally see that.

Its been a long time we've had coaches looking to use our player's strength. The smarter than you crowd has done us in plenty of times. My feeling is we'll be shockingly delighted once we see the play on the field...
Likens can be the smarter than you crowd cause he’s actually put guys in the first round. But he didn’t get to that level being an *** like our more recent coaches

I enjoyed the Likens interview on Joe Rose today. He’s got a reason and explanation for everything he does. From how he handles practice to what traits he looks for in a prospect. We finally hired assistant coaches who have had prior, recent success. No washed up guy who made waves 15 years ago. No first time coordinators who are too wet behind the ears. No more pro style offense that exposes our deficiencies and minimizes our strengths.

KISS. But - give enough looks to keep the defense off balance.

Execution > Playbook Encyclopedias.

Also: This interview clearly reiterates the point that people have been making about POSITION coaches. Development is key.

Lol, Big fan of both but chilllll. The defense since manny has been here has been solid enough, if he fails that means the offense didnt do work. (mind you I dont expect that to happen, I expect an exciting product lighting up scoreboards, dam shame we wont be able to pack the stadium)

Also hiring no experience head coaches off failed staffs will have gone 0-2 here, might be time to open bank. I do think Lashlee will get looks after he does work, seems like his trajectory is on track for it. Likens tho a tough situation with true freshman qb just got let go as OC, he gonna have to work his way up. But as a WR/passing coordinator/sounding board with air raid experience to help Lashlee think he is an excellent guy to have here and not the type of hire we have had here in long time. A+

Both also seem like great recruiters (add Justice) too, exciting haul for all three guys who have experience and strength in different spread offenses. Justice in run game spread since playing days (Rich rodriguez coaching tree)+ Likens in air raid passing game (air raid tree) + Lashlee in power HUNH spread since playing days/air raid recently (Malzahn and Dykes) should = exciting times and offensive product lighting up scoreboards.

Your right. Long way to go. I think Manny has upgraded this offensive staff 10X over the last one so I don’t actually think he’ll get fired anytime soon. But these two would be solid options if it does happen.

This year has a chance to be a special one. Like you said, sucks we can’t pack hard rock

Would’ve loved to play for a guy like Likens, give me hands, quickness and ability to separate over linear speed any day of the week. Wes Welker is the best slot receiver to play the game and he ran a 4.65 but no one running a 4.3 could cover him

With all due respect these takes make no sense. If Lashlee and Likens do what we expect, Manny won't be failing.

Thats another ripple affect of these types of offenses man. They are fun to play in and recruit themselves. Plug n play offenses that get production. Even if you watch NFL, guys like Mahomes and Lamar just lighting it up. Lamar was in our backyard! This guy won the Heisman and NFL MVP! Smh..

If you’ve never covered a great route runner that’s quick then you have no clue how impossible it is. A guy I played against in hs ran a 4.55 -4.6 but was impossible to guard. It wasn’t fair , he sold every route and they looked the exact same at the top.

But folks are stuck on 4.3’s and straight line speed.

Don’t get me wrong speed is a great asset to have but not if you can’t do the other things

Enos definitely thought he was smarter than everyone. Richt was just set in his dinosaur ways.

Have said this for 20 years. Anyone who has ever played DB at almost any reasonable level (so running less than 5.0 40, ha) will tell you the same thing. You can anticipate linear speed. You can only recover on quickness/ability to separate. It goes understated, but balance also has a lot to do with it. Pure shuttle isn't enough. The most difficult WRs are the ones who can get in and out of their breaks well using their body to lean and lead CBs and Safeties toward an area. It's beyond my understanding why this is only now becoming widely acknowledged.

This applies to bigger WRs, too, by the way. I don't want to imply it belongs to the shorter/smaller slots. Think Keenan Allen, etc.

Yeah Likens was a phenomenal hire. Usually our WRs coaches are former players or low G5 Coaches, this time we hired a former Pac 12 offensive coordinator lol.
