It's ok for Miami fans to be excited and happy about our team and our run game, especially coming off our last game where we did NOTHING and barely even crossed midfield the entire game against a CUSA team. I thought Cam was a “Miami” caliber back when I first saw him play, and still think so. At first glance I think the same of Chaney and Rooster. At least in terms of running style. I have no idea if they can do the other things necessary for them to be complete backs because Thursday was the first time I saw them play. No idea if either of those guys can pick up a blitz. Add in the fact that King can run, and things are looking up in the ground game. To state the obvious, the OL needs reps and time together. It would be a welcome surprise if, at the end of the year, we all thought the OL was the most improved unit on the team, even given that good running backs can make an OL look better. I’ll take it.
 
Opposing Defensive coordinators are probably pooping in their pants right now.


King can run and all 4 backs who played looked decent when given a chance.
The two "freshmans" will only get better the more they get carries and get used to the speed of the game at this level.

Once they do then watch out...

LOL at "bro, let me deconstruct these 330 yards." That's the fcking truth. Miami fans spend too much time trying to be objective and smart that they forget they're supposed to be fcking fans. They want to tamp down anything good and shout from the mountaintops about anything negative.

They even go out of their way to conjure up negative spins on 330 rushing yards. "Yeah, bro, but we we aren't gonna run for 330 every week, bro." Yeah, no ****. No one does.

I'm not saying UAB is bad. I never said that. What I did say was that this approach won't work every week. We won't get away with missed passes and lack of WR separation. We won't get away with what I saw last night for very long.

Our OC adjusts to what a defense gives him and finally pounds the ball when the opportunity is there and y’all want to hang it around his neck as an indictment.

Perfect play call, no one around Payton , no pressure on King. You won't get an easier look at a 10 yd TD pass. And King's pass wasn't even close.

2020 had a very 2017 vibe before last night. 2020 has a very 2018 vibe after last night.

Nope. Nope. You guys just love losing your minds over regular football stuff. Everything is an indictment and an absolute when you want it to be. Everything else is dismissible.

I only saw Hartley beat his guy once and King missed him, the wr open in the end zone was a great play call and misdirection and king missed him. Again, they may have called a vanilla game but I didn’t see any wr impress me.

He says:

"King's a great athlete, but basically a sandlot QB. "King was only 15-10 as a starter." This is where I stopped reading and the director of scouting lost credibility with me. In two of the five losses (Memphis and Army) in 2018, King never played because he was injured. In 2018, Houston went 8-5 and lost to Texas Tech 63-49, SMU 45-31, Temple 59-49, Memphis 52-31 and Army 70-14. In those 3 losses he played, he threw for 431, 175 and 322. How you winning games with Mark D'Onofrio calling your defense? How King performs in the ACC this year is obviously TBD, but the director of scouting's assessment is very jaded.

Actually, accuracy has been something he has struggled with at times in the past.

If you look at his last 2 years in Houston, 8 of the 15 games he played in 2018-2019 were less than 60% completion percentage. His game is fast pace and explosive plays, not pinpoint accuracy.

He seemed hesitant throwing the ball against UAB. It's hard to tell on TV if it's bc guys weren't open or he wasn't trusting his arm, knowing his has his legs to bail him out.

It's definitely ok to be excited about our running game. I'm excited about it too. It looked great.

It's also ok to be concerned about our passing game. It looked terrible.

But our running game always looks unstoppable against CUSA. Always.

Did we look much better against CUSA teams than we did in 2019? Yes. Did we look the exact same against CUSA as we did in 2018, 2016, 2015, 2013? Yes.

It's great to have hope & excitement. It's also totally fine to have perspective.

King having a bad passing day could be a net positive for our passing game against Louisville. If Im scheming for the Canes offense after week one, I put my defense in a series of run oriented zones designed to keep King in the pocket and force him to hit his windows throwing over top of his O line.

I think this can help our receivers as well. Wont need to work so hard for separation.
 
King hasn’t played in a long time and has had minimal practices with our receivers who desperately need time and reps with any QB.

Mallory and Jordan will help him a TON next few games. We’ll make adjustments to get them the ball more.

UAB had a run D that has what 20thish last year. Louisville was outside of top 100.

I see us gashing them and King throwing for 2-3 TD’s. Jarren had SIX last year.
 
If people followed the off season, they’d know that the teams strength is the running backs and we were told that we should expect a heavy dose of running. Crazy concept that our OC actually played to our strength For once, and set our O up for success? Yes, Passing game needs some work, which with Kings leadership, I’m sure they will Be working on it after practice etc. I expect him to be sharper, and the WR group to be scrapier. King missed some throws, but I don’t believe that is normal for him...we shall see.
