Interesting article on the backup QBs

I disagree that PT against Savannah State is meaningless. It’s a chance to go out there in live—relatively safe— action against a defense that isn’t following script.

It might not close the book on anything, but go out there, run the offense properly, complete some passes. Someone will look better today. Someone will show that they deserve more meaningful snaps as we ratchet competition up a notch next week.

We likely won’t have the opportunity to play as many QBs next weekend as this, so today is a chance to see who will go in first next weekend.

My opinion? Rosier starts today simply because Richt isn’t going to stir up unnecessary drama by trotting someone else out there for the first series. We may see someone else—N’kosi, Cade, or both—out there in situational work during the second or third series, with whom ever performs better, taking a majority of the reps through the third. Malik’s day is done by halftime, and Williams plays the 4th.

Canes should've have had hired an O.C. in the offseason to handle all these weapons at his disposal. Also, a special teams coach. L$U game would've been somewhat different outcome. Co-offensive coor. and qb coach(nepotism) was a bad decision. Never set right with me. Richt needs to be CEO only.

Also the Patke hire is redundant. Not elite at recruiting or coaching could have had a special teams coach.

Honest question.

Do we gain anything by starting Rosier vs Saliva St.?

How does him starting this game make our team better?

If he 'starts' but doesn't play most of the snaps, it tells me that Richt is starting this game with a blank slate with respect to Greentree performance- it's all about what you've done in games. If Rosier was (erroneously) elevated in the offseason based on Greentree play, the backup shouldn't be elevated because of theirs.

If he starts and plays most of the snaps, it tells me that Richt is being held back by his fondness for loyalty and experience.

It’s really simple in my eyes these next three cupcake of games. Give the back up even first team practice and playing time on the field. If he doesn’t do this then he’s (CMR) just as much the problem as Malik is.

I agree I question Jon Richt being on the staff but these calls for an OC are not warranted. We had receivers open all night vs LSU but had a qb throwing passes like he's trap shooting. Richt's play calling isn't the issue it's his poor development of the backup qbs. Rosier getting all the time with 1's over summer bit us immediately this season.

It is not just the matter of making the right calls; when things aren't going well, the HC needs to have the time to talk to the players and position coaches ... not worry about which play is being called next...

It is being there to manage the live game as a whole, not just one aspect of it.

It's been a minute since I posted here, but it just doesn't make sense to start Rosier. It would be one thing if Rosier at least protected the ball despite having mediocre arm talent, completed 60% of his passes for only short to medium yardage, or was a running QB with great leadership qualities and had the team behind him. Unfortunately, he doesn't have any of those qualities. Despite only being 1 game into his 2nd season as a starter, he doesn't appear to have improved which is unusual for Richt Qbs who have historically done so their 2nd years. His end of the year trajectory from last year has continued which leads all of us to believe that he is what he is- a dud at the most important position on the team, one loaded offensively at the skill positions.

I wonder if Richt feels like he will lose cred if he starts someone else. That admitting he made a mistake so early in the season would be a sign of defeat or panic; however, all of us who have ever succeeded know that failure at some point is part of the journey. Acknowledge the mistake, cut bait, regroup, move on, and excel. The floor for these other guys, especially a guy like Nkosi, can't be worse than what we have with Rosier. It also will give any of the current backups important live reps that they can build off of. The team needs a spark. Richt needs to make that change.

Why does Weldon have the better brain? I would love to know how your brain came to that conclusion.

Williams is the best of the three? Why did your brain think that and what have you seen that brings you to that conclusion?
Getting suspended for the big game.

I’m going to answer this but let’s not highjack the OP’s post by getting into a endless discussion about motives. First Weldon busted his tail and qualified for early enrollment. So did Williams. Perry didn’t.That’s a tremendous advantage for an incoming qb. That’s a measurable point. Secondly, When you observe public interviews, read articles, and digest quotes by credible posters on this very sight you have the basic material to form an opinion. Keep in mind it is an opinion not a statement of fact. I even have an opinion about the tone of your question but let’s leave it at that.

The only reason Malik plays in this game is because of the zoo Rick created at QB his last couple years at UGA. It was a grab bag stuffed with diarrhea, and Rick even panicked his last year starting his 3rd stringer Faton Bauta against UF completely out of the blue. That QB mess got him fired. He’s probably very gun shy now.

Mind just works faster.

Williams may not know a play - but will hit a receiver anyway - as he'll be the open receiver - progressions be damned.

Was that the Herpes Simplex B VIII (A) (3) (g) ?

Can't kill that stuff with a blowtorch.

Just saying . . .

Just based off of that and no football game experience in college im going with Cade.

Not gonna lie, I’m rooting for Cade to win the starting job

I want the best QB to win the starting job, don't care who it is. This is turning in to a real bad situation, it needs to be fixed now. Rosier should be pulled so they can see what the other two can do. I would have liked to redshirt the freshmen but we play so many bad teams this year might as well get him involved if they think he's better than the other two.

Give me the qb who can hit JT on the move without causing him to break stride or have to adjust to make a Superman catch that result in like 5 yrds. Kills me that we have burners like Jeff and Mike but can never get the ball in their hands. **** idc if Richt calls a jet sweep every play just to get these two the ball

They all play today and we shall see some evidence with which we can judge and evaluate our QBs and make an informed decision. Run on sentences are cool.

If I had to predict, I’d say Perry. Richt wants to see what he can do on the field.

Long-term, Jarren has shown the most ability in practice. But you really don’t know about a QB until they play real games.

Sure hope one of these guys can be the man. I’m real nervous about not having a qb recruit this year.

In a sane college football realm. #12''s day would be done at the end of the 1st quarter. Then go with the current 2nd team QB, and next the 3rd team QB. Savannah St. arguably speaking is the WORST FCS team in the nation. So let the young Canes lose their virginity. Metaphorically speaking mind U.

I don’t want 12 to have a whole quarter. I’d like to see him out there as a fail safe while Cade and Perry get situational work and see who earns a whole series without training wheels. After the half, I’d like to see Cade and Perry rotate series, while Williams is eased in with the situational stuff, then give Williams the 4th.

Yes, you definitely gain something important by starting Rosier against Savannah State. You gain two critical things:

1). (and do NOT discount this). you gain an understanding that the starting QB is the starting QB until someone else unseats him. The other 3 kids have done nothing to win the starting job as of yet.

2). You get to see Rosier also compete against the same competition. Seeing the other three kids without also seeing Rosier skews the evaluation metrics.
