Insight on App State?

Why dude keeps bringing up ten like we care..we're better than tenn. That was your super bowl..it's over now prepare for the thrashing. Dobbs sucks as a qb, kayak as bad as he plated last saturday..that's par the course for Dobbs. This game might be competitive a quarter or so.

The Vegas Line is -4.5 Miami. Basically giving you a TD. That wouldn't happen if Miami was that much better. I suppose I wouldn't get any where with you since I doubt you've seen an App game against anyone other than Tennessee.

Serious question: is this App St team significantly better than the Arkansas St team we easily handled back in 2014?

I watched the Tennessee game, and there was nothing scary about App St. Unless we play our F game, I don't see how they score enough.

Appalachian State 2015

3 Toughest games per FPI

5 Clemson L 41-10
55 Georgia Southern W 33-13
73 Arkansas State L 40-27

They only played 5 teams total inside the top 100 FPI. They finished 57th in FPI. They are currently 50th in FPI.

Arkansas State went 7-5 in 2014, finishing at 82nd in the FPI. Their 3 toughest games were...

31 Tennessee L 34-19
36 Miami L 41-20
54 Utah State 21-14

I would say Appy State was a better team last year than Arkansas State was in 2014. Not by a HUGE margin. I'd say they're around the same this year as they were last year. They are tremendously better or worse.

I know FPI isn't the greatest tool and I tend to have issues with it at times, but it does have some accuracy and credibility to itself. It's faults have more to do with putting so much weight on previous season's results and its own preseason rankings skewing things early on, but throughout the year it does seem to be a good indicator for how good a team is.

For the sake of it, here are the teams around Appy State currently.

45th Cal
46th Central Michigan
47th Michigan State
48th Western Michigan
49th Vandy
50th Appy State
51st Boston College
52nd VT
53rd Washington State
54th South Carolina
55th San Diego State

Miami would be favored in pretty much every single matchup there except for Michigan State. That one would depend on who is the home team. The players just have to come in focused. If they come in and fold mentally because a possession or two doesn't go their way, then they'll be in for a fight. Fortunately Al isn't coaching the team anymore and Richt should have the team focused and playing hard every single play. If he is able to get to the team and have them come out focused and put up 42 in the 3rd quarter to FAMU and playing hard like it's a conference game, then I am a believer that he can get them ready for App State. Kaaya would have to play even worse than he did this past week for App State to really take it.

gna be a long year if we're truly worried about these guys. Can't have high expectations while not having confidence in your team to beat App state.

It's like that with any team on here that we face... Looking back at it, it kind of was understandable when golden was here considering his coaching abilities but with richt I'm a lot more confident with any team we play that has a pulse

App St only chance is because they are at home and they're unfamiliar to our team. Football is a game of matchups. I just don't think they matchup to our aggression on the line of scrimmage on D or our ability to run the ball on O. Look for tons of tackles for loss when they try those long developing plays. Crediting their performance against Tenn is the reason they wont catch anyone by surprise.

Point spread is up to 5.

I just don't get the mass hysteria around app state. They were solid last year in the sun belt but haven't beaten a team with a pulse in 9 years and that Michigan team ended up being awful by the way

It was opening weekend and much as I hate to say it, Tennessee was just not focused. They play again and Tennessee rolls. The fact that we are only three point favorites is a slap in the face.

We're gonna dominate in every aspect of this game

They will be tougher than many people here think. Lots here think we should destroy them based on talent. You all know CFB doesn't work like that. Look at 2001 against Vt - they were bad and had no business hanging with us. Emotion is a big part of this game.

App state is a decent spread/zone read team. Those teams usually give you fits. I know they also have an OC who's from Miami, coached at fiu, so you know he's going to rally up lots of emotion and has big time incentive. This is a one in a million home game for them - they'll never get an opponent coming to their place like this again so you know they've circled this game on the calendar from a long time.

This will be a close game, IMO. We might score some late scores to make it a more breathable margin but I think this will be a close game.

The intangibles are not with us.

They are 23-16 under the current coach and have 17 players from Florida. Other than that they look like they play very similar to FAMU and FAU. They like to spread you out and make plays.

They're pulling out all the stops. I heard they're bringing Herb Brooks in to give the pregame speech.

Their QB sucks, decent running back they have an active D Line they can provide pressure and an impressive Freshman CB #25 . Miami however is far more talented and as long as we show up handle our business we should win by more than 2 TD's. Won't be a cake walk tho.
#25 is a RB, the Freshman CB I think you're talking about is Clifton Duck #22 .

Liberty--on top of your game!!

In his defense, he is the only person discussing this game objectively. Your name, came dynasty, suggests there is currently a cane dynasty. Sadly, there hasn't been for 15 years. CFB is better when Miami, Va Tech and FSU are in the Top 10 but it's been a while since that perfect storm has been around. The guy you are neg repping gets it and won't be here wanting to fire Richt when there is a close game.

lol. His objective analysis is, "you are assuming Miami comes out ready to roll from the first snap." What does that even mean? Why would anybody, as part of their "analysis," assume a team will come out not ready to play??? It's idiotic. The fact that you are pointing to it as an analysis, let alone an "objective analysis," says everything about you.

I am sure that I'll get the typical responses of "just win" or "it's only week 3", but I am very interested to see where we are going to be ranked if we can beat this team handily, say by two or three td's. I am not big on rankings myself but the way that ESPN and other media outlets have pumped up this App. St squad after the Tennessee game it will be interesting to see how a "big" win against them would be perceived.

You beat these teams by dominating them at the line of scrimmage. If we come out trying a bunch of throws like we did against FAU we will have problems. Our OL is massive. We need to line up and go forward. I think we'll be fine harassing their QB

While size is helpful, it isn't everything. You should be able to find some defensive highlights from the UTk game. DE splits a double team, sheds Hurd and sacks Dobbs on the run. He was under fire almost every time he dropped back to pass which is what led to his poor numbers. I'm sure Richt will be a little smarter about this game than the fans. Get into a running match and you lose the one true advantage you have and that is skill players on the outside.

Dobbs is a horrible passer, and UT is a horrible passing offense. That's what led to Dobbs' poor numbers.

Lulz at this c0cky jagoff yapping about our outside skill players being our one advantage over App Store. Come on, man. Beating up on the Sun Belt and getting that *** whooped by Ark State has emboldened you. You don't have a player we even recruited, so we have plenty of advantages.

You are assuming Miami comes out ready to roll from the first snap. If they aren't then this game will turn your stomach. App St is good at the LOS. Miami has advantages on paper. Now let's see if these kids actually carry that to the field.

What's their record against the SEC?

0-112

In Richt I Trust, but the last 10 years of Miami football has given me trepidation against every opponent short of an FCS one.

That would translate to 100-12 against the Coastal. We might be in trouble.

App state is 0-7 against power 5 teams since Michigan losing on average by 33 points a game (was 38 but Tennessee closed the gap with their bad performance)

And Michigan beat them in the rematch in 2014 52-14 which is more relevant than people talking about 2007

They surprised an overrated Tennessee team who had a corch on opening weekend

It's an embarrassment that Miami is 3.5 pt favorites. We should stomp them and I can't wait until we do.

To quote CMR

“How can you take this team lightly?” an incredulous Richt answered. “How can anybody who knows football take this team lightly? We don’t even have to say that to our guys. They’ve seen the film. They watched them play against Tennessee. They know.

“It’s really almost an insult to have to answer the question. Not being rude to you, but this is a really good football team and everybody knows it and we’re geared up to try to do the best we can to play great that day.’’

this game to me is very meaningful, because while UM has had superior talent vs its opponents over the last 5-10 years, the coaching on the other side (and lack of coaching on our side) has resulted in losing games we should have won because of that superior talent. said differently, the coaching eviscerated/castrated the talent.

anyone remember Virginia? Duke? Maryland? Kansas State (i vomited again)? Wake Forest? we should never lose any of those games, but we did.

i expect to win on saturday because this coaching staff will not get in the way of the talent. it will harness the talent and not impede it. i doubt it is a blow out and we might have struggles because of emotion (as stated above), but ultimately the talent and better coaching should prevail. in addition, cmr has been getting the team ready for this game since the summer. they should not come out flat like they have over the years.
