In 2006....

Absolutely think that was the reason during that time it was the thing to do only good thing is it set notre dam back a few years to when they hired ty... But like i previously stated he was cheap also ... And boy did he dig us into a deep hole that is still being worked on

I always laugh at simple minded comments like " Shannon set us back years". " he was hired because he was black....." Reflects more on the person making those comments than anything. A good/ great coach can come in and get results immediatly no matter what the previous coach did.

Shannon left a good enough foundation for a real coach to come in and win right away. Unfortunately golden doesn't fit Into this category. In fact, if you look at the production Golden may be worse than Shannon which says something.

Golden is a terrible coach on his own, no need to prop up Shannon to make Golden look bad. Shannon did not leave a good foundation, the program was in shambles in many areas by the time he was fired. Bottomline is that Shannon and Golden were/are disasters as the head coach of Miami.

Your point is correct however that a good coach can come to Miami and get good results, or at least show major progress, after a year or two.

I can't believe there are people actually trying to discredit what Patterson's done at TCU.

Do you people watch football other than Miami?

The thread bumping faqqots have this one marked. They will be the biggest fans of whoever TCU plays the rest of the year.

Shannon left one of the most talented and experinced teams in the acc for golden. If that's not a good foundation I don't know what is. Some of you act as if Shannon was suppose to leave this guy a championship team stacked for years to come. That type of thinking comes from a simple football mind.

Golden couldn't win the coastal with a senior laden team
Golden couldn't win the coastal with a young team filled with freshman
Golden couldn't win the coastal with 20 of 22 starters returning
Golden most likely will not win the coastal with a roster filled with his players

4 years and Golden can't crack a 10 win regular season in the ******* Coastal Division of the ACC and has yet to win and most likely won't win the coastal.

And people have the nerve to mock Gary Patterson. LMAO at the Golden *** guzzlers.

Agree with OP. Shalala made the worse possible hire in 2006. Worse in program history.
No previous HC experience.
Major part of a failed regime
No off the field tangibles to speak of

If you look at the on-field product objectively you will be hard pressed to say golden is not the worst hire miami has ever made.

That sums it up. Sounds like the Green Eggs and Ham version of Folden's foibles at UM.

Yep. They followed the worst hire by hiring the worst hire's inferior.

There's a few things at play right now. Randy Shannon was a thoroughbred cane , a defensive mind, a good recruiter and did almost everything he could to save his job including firing coordinators and being a class act with the fans. I think his demise was a combination of losing some tough losses, stagnant offenses, inheriting cokers apathetic program and some off the field messes. The guy probably wasn't ready either. He'd probably been a winner eventually but who knows and who cares? That ship has sailed and were stuck with Diet Penn state right now.

For the Shannon lovers: Randy was hired bc after an outside firm was hired as head hunter he fit the bill.

Prior head coaching experience/success and X's and O's mastery are not top priorities for this admin.

Shannon was ideal for what they wanted. The man was known for following kids to class to check in on them. He was an elite coordinator of a championship team. He was seen as a guy who could recruit clean, and who had high character. He was a known disciplinarian. That he was a Cane and willing to take the job at a typical coordinator first time HC gig pay rate was a bonus.

Guys like Patterson ('06) and Mullen ('10) are football first guys. Shannon and Golden are "pillars first" guys. They swooned Shalala with their promises of great football and great students rah rah Wisconsin nonsense.

Shannon, Golden, and Edsall, all conveniently had elite academic progress report status. It's not a coincidence.

The Shalala lovers love to say stupid **** like "we can't afford it" when the reality is the admin is never going to hire a football first coach here. They don't want that. 8-4 and top APR is what they want.

A good foundation??? I'd advise you go check the entire roster that Shannon left. Not hard to miss the gaping holes at certain positions and lack of depth. How was Shannon's nutrition program? How many times did Shannon visit Miami Central High School? I can go on and on with how terribly Shannon ran the program. It was in shambles when he left. No one said anything about leaving a championship team but it should not have been as bad as it was.

People need to realize that both Shannon and Golden were/are terrible. Both of them did a few things okay but on the whole they are awful.
