Ice Harris

People can be so **** naïve when it comes to judging a coach's ability. It reminds me of the list that Blustein released just before the season that had the "top high school coaches in South Florida." Go figure, it was a list of guys who are at loaded teams. My boy at Coral Springs would dance circles around Ice Harris or just about any other coach in South Florida but nobody really mentions his name cause he's at a program that's not prominent in South Florida. You guys don't know what these coaches do or what their principles are so you judge them based on the only thing you have access to, their records and/success. That can be extremely misleading.

You can't judge a coach when his team is loaded. Show me a coach who does something with nothing. A coach who makes chicken salad out of chicken ****. Somebody who wins without D-1 talent.

I'm not saying Ice isn't a good coach, all I'm saying is that it's extremely hard to tell considering the talent he's always had at his disposal. Shoot, they just won another state championship WITHOUT him.

You make no sense. What coach wins without talent? They won one with his son so that is an extension Harris. UM will always have top shelf talent so we need a coach who can win with athletes.

Funny you mention Randy.

We're the same fans that discredited Randy's accomplishments as a DC because of the talent he had at his disposal. Now we're not applying those same rules to Ice. LOL

Hypocrisy.

WTF are you talking about? Plenty of coaches win with inferior talent, the same way some coaches underachieve with superior talent.

You want a coach that makes his team OVER ACHIEVE. You don't want a coach that simply manages great talent, cause that talent gap won't always be so vast. At some point you're gonna have to coach. (i.e. Larry Coker)

I get Macho's point but not with Ice.

Booker T does work against teams that are loaded, too. When they played Bishop Gorman last year, they looked tiny in the trenches and still gutted out a win on the road.

pretty much what D$ said, you can be an excellent coach even tough you have a talented team Macho is allowing personal relationship cloud his opinion on the matter. I bet no one would dare say West would coach circles around Coach Smith, even though he had a welt of talent on his teams also.

Lol @ coRch Macho hating on Ice because hes a better coach than you and your boy put together.

South Florida has enough high school teams with talent that it takes good coaching to for a team to be the best of the best.

Only a coRch would even say anybody can win with talent.... sounds like the Al Golden not enough talent to win excuse. Didnt Gene Chizik get fired bc his Auburn team **** the bed with the same talent that Gus Malzahn took to the national championship the next year?
?

Smh very dissapointed in you coRch

Ya i dont get his point there....Maybe its envy for what Ice worked with at BTW....

BUT WHAT HE DOESNT GET IS...THAT THE REASON THERE LOADED EVERY YEAR IS BECAUSE OF ICE.

He keeps forgetting that i posted HE BUILT THAT PROGRAM....MNW has just as much talent for the most part and they aint beating up on teams anymore...and its been because of central's slight rise and .......BAD COACHING..

Then Ice routinely went out of state and handled business with BTW...Dude went against the best coaches in SC...And AJ GREEN and handled business...Gorman last year..Norcross..and his teams actually OUT SCHEME the out of state counterparts.

Again your boy from Coral Springs aint on that level brah...His only quality win was the one point win against Gibbons.

The fact that he kees/kept kids from that inner city environment on the right path and elgible....on that alone ive always commended Ice.

Those kids have alot more to worry about than the average high school kids. All of his div 1 level kids qualify at BTW.

Clearly, coaching does matter, even with lots of talent (see Al Golden). Ice must have some coaching ability to achieve what he has. That being said, how disappointed and beaten down have we become from Al Golden that we're ready to promote a guy straight out of high school to HC. I'm desperate enough to try it.

Your boy aint coaching circles around Ice.

2.) Booker T was coached before Ice by another coach who couldnt do what Ice DID...and that coach was a dade county veteran coach (Hughes)

I give him respect because he built a PROGRAM at BTW....Which isnt easy as you think. Add to it Booker T did it mostly without Tranfers.

Kids who play at Booker T live in the worst part of Miami By Far....his kids for the most part all qualify and make the grades...these arent the fakes acting hard from Weston or Carol City...i work in Overtown....Believe ME...

Ice coached offense at a bunch of schools in dade..and they all have had prolific type offenses.

THEY WON another one without him............BECAUSE he BUILT a PROGRAM..and its being ran by his son for christ sake...lol

Coach.
Circles.
Around.
Him.
All.
Day.

He took a 3-7 Coral Springs team to 7-3 this year, beat Gibbons, won a playoff birth and hung with Hallandale down to the wire. His offense scored more points against Flanagan and Monarch than anybody they played all season. He took Western from 5-5 to 6-4 to 7-3 and managed to beat a loaded Plantation team twice in one season. Western's record is 4-16 since he left.

If you gave him half of the talent that Ice has had to work with it would be laughable.

Does Ice do a good job? I'm sure. But gimme a ******' break. His teams are loaded every year.

If he is that good a coach then he has done a very poor job of marketing himself to better programs.

With due respect, you don't what you're talkin about in regards to my boy. You have a bias.

His only quality wins were Gibbons? Ok, SMH. Number one, Springs has zero D-1 athletes and Gibbons has several. Number two, I told you he beat a loaded Plantation team TWICE in one season while at Western.

LOL @ "quality wins". You're at Coral ******' Springs! They went 3-7 last season. EVERY WIN IS A QUALITY WIN RIGHT NOW!

Like I said, I'm sure Ice does a good job, but what he does just LOOKS more special because the rest of the urban schools have THE WORST COACHING IN THE COUNTRY.

Gimme a ******' break. Lmao. His god **** teams are like the 2001 Hurricanes of high school football. They send 15 kids to D-1 then reload the following year.

LOL @ them out-scheming people. 4-3 Cover 2, 4-3 man, spread offense, chuck it short, chuck it deep. Just like Shannon was "out scheming" people while he was a DC.

This **** got nothing to do with envy. It's got to do with dumb mutha****ers who suggest a guy should be a major D-1 head coach because he lead a team full of future D-1 prospects to the state championship. Seriously...how naïve is that?

There's no envy at all. Let'em do their thing. For all I know, I might not even be able to succeed at a program like that, so I still respect them for their ability to build and sustain a program. What bothers me is the props these guys get (all over South FLA) for coaching loaded teams while the guys like me (and other coaches from our tree) get zero recognition for making teams/athletes over achieve. Envy, no. Bitterness, maybe.

You want real props for coaching? Coach my kids. 5'9" LB's who run 5.0 forties. 5'7" Corners who run 4.7's on a good day. 5'11" 195 Linemen. Kids who would be lucky to play at D-3 schools after they graduate. I barely know what it's like to have a D-1 athlete on my defense. I've had three in all my years at Western... a DT who went to Western Illinois, a CB who went to Syracuse and a LB that's currently committed to Oregon State. (and I only had him when he was a 10th grader) Teams like Booker T have twice as many D-1 prospects on their defenses EVERY SEASON. Same goes for my boy at Springs. During his whole tenure at Western he had Moreau, Freebeck and Feliciano. Three guys!

What you're seeing with Ice and Booker T is a loaded urban school that's actually being COAHCED AT ALL.

I assure you, if the rest of these loaded schools were being coaches AT ALL it wouldn't be as easy for Booker T.

The coaching in South Florida is ATROCIOUS, so the school that has a little coaching (and talent) stands out.

You know what...

I'll ask this question.

Let's say a guy is a HC at a school with little talent. What does that coach have to do to prove that he's "on the level" of a coach at Booker T, St. Thomas, Central, etc? Or should I say, on the level of a powerhouse coach?

Reason I ask is, how the **** do YOU know if he's on that level or not? How would YOU know if he's doing a good job of coaching? How can you tell?

I'll answer it before any of you do, cause I already know the answer.

YOU DON'T KNOW!

Like everybody else, you read the paper. The paper says Booker T, St. Thomas, Monarch, Central, American Heritage, etc...are all winning...thus you think that's where all the great coaches are. Same reason why everybody thought Guandolo was one of the best coaches in South Florida when they had all those D-1 kids but now nobody even talks about him. Yall's opinions are based off what you see in the results.

+10000000

Can't discredit a guy because he has talent. Kids see this and transfer to his program. BTW was falling off when Ice was on the staff with Randy. He came back and the team is stronger than ever. George Smith and Ice Harris are examples of great coaches.
