I think Richt wants a dual-threat QB

Is Trubisky a running QB? His ability to climb the pocket and shuffle would be sufficient.

Please give me a running QB. Watching Bama with a freshman QB who can run and just took off for a 40 yard RD when nothing was going on. Miami is playing with one arm tied behind their back with Kaaya who looks like he is stuck in quicksand.

Bama won all their titles with pocket passers. Not saying they won't the title year but just saying. Mobile QB's are effective if they play in the right system.

Win

Bama and Saban are the exception to the rules. They are just on a different level so they don't need a superstar QB or anything close really

Winston wasn't a "mobile" QB.

Obviously the QB position is an important one but the secret formula to winning titles are Defense and a good running game. If Kaaya had a better OL and an effective Offensive Coordinator he would be much better.

Winston wasn't Lamar Jackson but he could run and extend plays. You might need to go back and watch more of their games

Very true but i wouldn't define him as a "duel" threat QB. C'mon.

Now Cam Newton is a duel threat.

The difference in that Carolina game was his ability to run. When they pulled their option we had to account for him. When we did it to them all their defense had to worry about was running back or pass. That extra wrinkle he added gave our guys fits. You could see it.

It's even less than that. When he stepped into the pocket a few times on 3rd down, the extra tick or two allowed him to convert plays (and 1st downs).

He also had some receivers that made tough catches in traffic. Even Whitfield made an acrobatic 3rd down catch as Francios was getting creamed (on their last touchdown drive). If they don't convert then, Miami wins.

But except for Coley (and he's dropped a few himself), I have yet to see a Miami receiver make a tough catch when it matters. They seem to need to catch in stride with an empty field in front of them. People gripe that our receiver can't get separation. Well sometimes they have to make the play even though they're tightly covered. It's too much pressure to put on the offense to have to always breaking free.

Duel threat QB, yes please. Even Saban switched over, we have to keep up with times.

Saban's a pragmatist. I doubt that the current QB was a dual threat was a factor at all. He probably just saw him making more plays. He would have started a cheerleader if she was making more plays.

You don't need a dual threat. Brady, Manning, Brees, Ryan, Marino, Dorsey, list goes on and on. If you aren't a running qb, you need pocket awareness and a quick release. Pocket awareness means knowing when pocket is collapsing and having an internal clock to throw the ball. The good qbs rarely take a sack because at worst they throw the ball away if the internal timer goes off. Kaaya doesn't appear to have much pocket presence (its nice to have a clean pocket to throw in, but it's not always going to be there) but the thing that is killing him is holding the ball too long trying to make a play. You can see it every game, he's over thinking, will look like he is going to pass then hesitate and hold onto the ball looking for a better throwing window and then boom, he's on the ground. His issue isn't running, his issue is he doesn't have the one trait that a pocket passer MUST have, which is pocket awareness.

You don't *need* a dual-threat QB, but look at the list of names you mentioned. Four of those guys are Hall of Fame quarterbacks.

A mediocre dual threat QB is WAAAY more dangerous than a mediocre pocket passer. You almost need a top-tier pocket passer to have an explosive offense. Almost every dynamic pro style offense with a pocket passer is loaded with NFL talent. Meanwhile you have spread teams with marginal talent putting up video game numbers, even against solid defenses.

Mediocre pocket passers have won more championships than mediocre dual threat QBs. A championship level defense will eat alive a dual threat QB if their passing skills were also mediocre. A mediocre pocket QB success is predicated on his decision making and his reads, after all his passing is mediocre. Admittedly those mediocre that did win usually had help at the skill positions, but similarly, a mediocre dual threat with no help at RB or WR would be a sitting duck.

You take what you're given and adjust to the players. On offense if you try to adjust the players to fit the offense you're in trouble. There isn't enough time to build that mesh when the kids already don't exactly fit the mold. We are in a place where we are trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Kaaya hasn't played particularly well but neither Tom Brady, Michael Vick, or Joe Fawking Montana could do much behind those f****ts we have on the offensive line. Da game starts at the line. You suck there and it gonna look like you suck everywhere. Michael Vick be getting hammered behind these mopes.

Dat said, Kaaya is shell shocked right now. If he still is in a daze the first quarter against ND, take him out and try Rosier.

A championship-level defense can eat alive anything. That said, we've seen championship-level defenses get shredded by dual-threat QBs over the past few years. Florida St had the #1 overall pick in the draft at QB (Winston), a good NFL WR (Benjamin), and a good NFL RB (Freeman). Auburn had a converted Safety at QB and lesser skill position talent, and their offense was just as potent.

This dual threat "debate" doesn't even matter.

Just turn on the TV any given Saturday and you have your answer.

A QB who can throw a bit looks better if he can run. A great thrower that can run a little bit can be great. You don't "have" to be a dual threat, but having both qualities sure as **** doesn't hurt.

Can't believe in this day and age of college football we still have to explain the benefits of having a dual-threat QB to football retards.

Speaking of dual threat.

I like a woman that can run both the 'spread option' and the '2-gap'

We just offered two more DT guys for 2018. Plus this:

UM has oral commitments from two quarterbacks who are mobile (N’Kosi Perry and Cade Weldon), and Richt acknowledged Wednesday that he expects more of a running element with the quarterback position in the future.

“I would think yes,” he said.

The game of football has changed. Outside of Peyton or Brady can you name a statue that's actually good at QB in any level? The next QB doesn't have to run all the time but having the ability to extend plays is a huge asset.
