Hurricane Irma

The keys and Miami are under mandatory evacuation according to the news.......

Not going back and forth with you on this cause it's silly.

My way of thinking is get yourself and your family out of harms way so other people don't have to risk theirs to come get you if God forbid you get trapped. Most of the whole southern part of the state will be under mandatory evacuation come tomorrow
So now if they haven't left today like they should have they can really sit in the traffic because now EVERYONE is leaving.

Last statement on the subject." Please everyone be safe if you decide to do as OCC and hang around during a cat 4-5 storm and if your leaving to get you and your family out of harms way please be careful on the highway.

Miami is NOT under mandatory evacuation. That's nuts and is fake news. Only those in low lying areas and special needs, a very small fraction of the population. I live down here, I actually know what's going on.

Also, the evacuations are to shelters within the county, i.e., still in south Florida.

The only ones that actually have to leave Dodge are the people in the Keys. That's just a few thousand.

Direct hit or not, the vast majority of the population will remain in south Florida as it would be impossible to evacuate millions of people: no place to put them and no way to get them there.

I'm sickened and horrified that my elderly father won't leave his house on Miami Beach. He's sending my mom inland to a hotel but he's got some old school mentality and thinks he's Captain Ahab going down with the fücking ship but he's not capable of doing this shît anymore. The guy was in the ICU for, and almost died from, sepsis (a blood infection) in July.

I've tried to talk some sense into him but he won't listen. We stayed during Andrew and, while it wasn't like South Dade, it was plenty bad. I thought he learned how scary it could be but I guess not. I just hope the storm turns.

Im sorry RVACane, to know that your father is not leaving. I will pray for your family that the storm moves away from inland. I wish you the best and please stay positive my brother. God bless all of you and your families.
To everyone in South Florida please be safe God bless you.

Thanks, Lust. Appreciate it bro.

I know there's a lot of crap being flung in the other threads about cancelling the game, but if current models hold -- and it's still too early to tell -- this would be catastrophic, with multiple losses of life and billions of dollars in damage.

Let's hope it stays out to sea, because the Euro models are the absolute nightmare scenario.

May all of you and your families be safe.

Update on Hurricane Irma on mainland PR.

- At 9am est the cut the power to the majority of the island for precaution
- At has been raining relatively calm since the morning
- At around 5pm San Juan will start feeling winds from 50-85 mph with gusts up to 135 mph
- Overall not expected to be too bad. The vast majority of houses in PR are made completely out of cement to survive hurricanes so they will not be destroyed
- The small island of Culebra (part of PR, off the coast) has started to feel the hurricane winds now and will ecperience 100+mph winds much worse conditions. Big damage expected

Know its not much but if anyone left Miami for Philly and needs a hand with anything don't hesitate to reach out

I pray you are all safe.

That IPF is never gonna get done.

But yea, be safe. Weather and wildlife is the only thing keeping me from moving to south florida.
I only hope that they aren't too far along in the construction, just the nature of the structure makes it vulnerable to serious damage UF not total destruction in the event of a serious storm like this one.

NYT reporting it is lashing Puerto Rico with 185 mile per hour winds, and that it damaged 95 percent of the buildings on the small resort island of Barbuda. One of the strongest hurricanes ever recorded in the Atlantic.

miami and key west about to pull off the comeback of the year if this high pressure jet stream continues.

Not true about PR. The most it got on the mainland is like 65 mph maybe a gust of wind a bit more, but overall it moved north and should be completely gone in a couple hours. So far everything good the hurricane eye was about 45 miles from San Juan so we didnt get the 100 mph winds. Some trees fell and small flooding in areas but otherwise pretty relaxed. Our houses are made of cement to withstand huge hurricanes, i even had my backdoor open most of the day without a problem.

We will have to see tomorrow to see the damage but doesnt appear too bad. Culebra did get hit with 100 mph winds but i believe most people evacuated to mainland puerto rico.

Hope all of you in Miami and the rest of Florida stay safe!!! Im in SC so not much of a thing, but there is a video of Irma making landfall in Barbados... she is a beast. Safe travels and for those that are gonna beast out, yall in my prayers.

Irma came nowhere near making landfall in Barbados. Maybe you are thinking Antigua/Barbuda?

youre right, whoever showed the video at first said Barbados.

Thanks for correcting these horrible rumors that are being thrown out there. From all accounts, PR was actually spared! Especially according to how things looked 2 days ago! Hope we get the same luck down here!

Good to know and thanks. I have a childhood friend who built a home on the island. His brother, who lives in the states, let me this morning that all is well.

The Euro model just altered the path significantly west. Everyone on the weather message boards was shocked. The Euro is now the outlier even though it has been the most accurate by far on Irma so far.

The spaghetti plots place Irma heading smack at Miami but the Euro now prefers an I-75 path closer to Naples. That might spare Miami the worst although it does place the northeast quadrant or "dirty side" toward Miami and specifically the western areas.

The Euro keeps Irma inland up the state including basically direct hits on Orlando and Gainesville. However, the wind speeds would weaken somewhat at that point.

I'm just passing this on because it's a very recent development and not all the official sources including the National Hurricane Center have plotted this shift into their official forecast. The second most accurate model on Irma so far -- UKMET -- had also indicated a more westerly route closer to the Naples area. That model was considered the outlier until Euro reported.

The reference point will be interaction with Cuba. Both the Euro and UKMET have Irma heading over land in Cuba before emerging west. The models that smack Miami directly keep Irma north of the Cuban coast.

I've been rooting for an east shift but either deviation is fine. At this point I'll beg for west.

Be safe my Cane brother & sisters. Do not take any unnecessary risks with this storm. My thoughts are with all you living in the affected areas. God Bless you.

Doesn't look like the current projection is sparing Miami at all. It shifted west but not far enough, yet.
