1) Recruiting (we need to stack talent and have top ten classes moving forward)
2) Culture (it's been rotten for 18 years, and complacency and mediocrity have been the norm for a generation of rosters)
3) Staff (Gattis is gonna sink or swim. If he sinks, we need to shake up the O staff)
Other than that, there's no immediate solution. This is going to be a top to bottom rebuild. At least this season and next to establish a program that can consistently win 9 games a year and 3-4 years to being relevant nationally.
What blows me away is the need to remind people that this program has literally been an abortion since the 2005 season. Maybe even 2004 if you want to focus on those losses to North Carolina, Clemson and Virginia Tech.
Miami has averaged out at 7-5 every year if you go back to that 2005 Peach Bowl (118-85 record.)
I hear people saying that there's "no excuse" to lose to a Middle Tennessee, but based on what? Who the **** is Miami anymore?
80's, early 90's and early 00's era Canes—sure—zero excuse, but this program has been a shell of itself for almost 20 years. A middle of the road ACC team that has won the Coastal one and never won the conference. Losses to Duke. Fell to FIU a few years ago. Shutout by Louisiana Tech in a bowl game. Rolled by Bama, Clemson and North Carolina.
The fact our fan base is just some mind-blown that this below-average-for-15-years program could lose a game like this is a bigger shock than the actual loss itself.
That 7-5 team from last year could've easily have been 4-8. Same for 8-3 in 2020; could've been 3-8—TVD and King both with some miracle games the past two seasons.
The Miami Hurricanes are not a good football team and even worse, haven't been a competent or good football program in decades. To act like a loss like this is "lowering expectations" is hilarious. Some of y'all watch the 30 For 30 doc too often and act like them glory days weren't a lifetime ago.
Mario knew he had his work cut out for him when taking over this program. Unfortunately some of y'all are the ones in complete denial.
