How Would You Fix the Team/Program Going Forward

Manny almost did save his job by firing Enos and hiring Lashlee. Manny would have been back for a 4th season if Mario turned us down. The problem is that he refused to step away from the defense and that's what ultimately did him in. If Mario can step away from the offense, hire the right coordinators and just focus on recruiting and running the big picture aspects of the program he can still succeed here. But if he insists on forcing coordinators to run his plodding pistol/bleed the clock offense we're going to constantly be in death struggles with teams we are heavily favored against.
If Golden can just stop running his defense.

If Richt can just hire an OC to run their own offense.

If Diaz will stop being married to his scheme.

If Mario can...

#1Gattis must sink or swim this year . CMC must stay out of the way the rest of year on offensive side of ball this year and for the immediate future. let him( Gattis) determine his own fate as he is running the CMC offense that does not work
#2 Decide on a QB and ride it out, i favor Garcia as he seems more comfortable in this antiquated offensive structure and seems to be more of a vocal leader and will not let them quit.Do not create further issues with flipping back and forth on QB
#3 CMC has 2 jobs rest of year build mental toughness, what was MTSU doing dominating the LOS ?????, #2 responsibility focus 100% on on keeping incoming class together .
#4 If Gattis fails, hire Lebby or a Briles or an equivalent and give him the total freedom on Offense, CMC recognize what you do best run a program and recruit......
#5 recruiting find Studs , with character, big hearts and a never say die attitude. these studs might be 3*'s but we need a roomful of Ed Reeds,Ken Dorseys
who can lead as well as hold others accountable for a lack of effort and execution. we lack character as a program.

I know, I know. And I would normally agree with you (frankly, I might be just trying to convince myself) but the difference, I think, is that unlike Golden, Richt, and Diaz, Mario has the administration, boosters, alumni, etc. all behind him and investing heavily in the program. Look I wanted Kiffin so I'm not here to make excuses for Mario. I'm just saying if there is a path to him being successful it starts with giving up control of the offense.

1.) Mario needs to wake up like saban did and stop living in some ball control play football in a telephone booth style… be better.

2.) recruit and prioritize the portal these next two years. We need some hungry guys to come in this building and take jobs and work… Rambo, KJ, JPhillphs, Ty etc…

1. Ponce calls plays moving forward
2. Gattis WR coach and run game coordinator
3. Keep it in house to help Gattis get his next job
4. TVD and Garcia battle it out for QB1 these next 2 weeks
5. If Ponce delivers points give him the promotion in offseason
6. Ponce doesn’t deliver then give me an fcs or g5 OC that’s been scoring tons of points with less talent
7. Gattis “leaves” in offseason

This is a pretty reasonable setup. I don't think any internal changes on playcalling are made till midseason. No external changes will be made until the end of the season.

Trent Dilfer was on the radio this morning talking about how many QB’s in the NFL need the field cut in half such that they only are looking to one side of the field. He said this was true of 7-8 year NFL veterans. I wonder of Gattis needs to do the same for TVD. Give him 2 receivers on a side and then have him choose between the 2.

I also think the option routes maybe a problem. Look at the first play. Assuming Mallory had an option route, he goes outside because of the inside defender (who makes the pick). But that makes TVD watch him a second longer and lock onto him to see which way he is going. It can also take a receiver too close to another receiver if everyone is making a decision based on how they are being played individually.

I don’t know if Gattis can get away from running option routes but I think he needs to try that as well as choosing which side of the field the QB is throwing too.

Admit this is a rebuild and swap out players as soon as they slip up. Not winning the Coastal is a Miami tradition.

The difference is it isn’t Mario’s scheme so in theory it should be easier to let go. But the philosophy is as big of a problem

Short term:

1) Mallory doesn't see the field again until he is routinely pancaking everybody in practice. One thing to have a horrible blocker at the end of the line, another thing when he sucks and shortens his routes at the goal line to catch passes 2 yards short of the end zone - and then doesn't even catch them. Arroyo should start and Skinner in on all 2TE sets, Skinner is obviously the most talented TE we have, put him on the field. Start using Rooster like Florida used Toney, jet sweeps and isolate him on the outside, let him make plays and stop running a lightweight RB up the middle to get beat up by 300lb defenders. If TVD MAKES THROWS and Gattis uses personnel to their strengths, nobody is on his case right now and we don't have 2 losses. He's scheming people open (Arroyo behind Mallory, Keyshawn been wide open a bunch) but TVD is horrid.

2) Ivey is never to be left alone in single man coverage the rest of his UM career. He's a willing tackler and his ball instincts aren't terrible, roll coverage and run cover2 if you have to, keep Ivey up by the line he will be an asset instead of a liability. Get Flagg out of there you look at the box score see 8 tackles and say he must have done allright, you watch the game film and he gives up 3 chunk plays and just happens to show up on piles when the statman assigns credit for tackles. Caleb should be given free reign to track the ball and make plays, Steele has to fix these issues and stop demanding his MLB make 80 decisions in 1 second when the ball is snapped. Flow to the ball, tackle ball carrier. This is a DC who is not playing to any of the players' strengths and you can't try to put a square peg in a round hole - ADAPT.

3) TVD has 2 weeks to prove he's a dog - are you going to go out there, lay an egg, and let Jake take your spot? Are you going to sit back and let that happen? Or are you going to work your tail off and fight for it and go out there against UNC and fire laserbeams and light them up? Which is it TVD?

Long term:

1) Recruit dogs only. If you are on this team you are here to give 100% effort, you want that playing time, you want that spotlight, you want to make plays. Period. Flagg "occupying blockers" when he had a clear sack and big play right there for the taking tells me he is not a dog. Send Barrow, Armstead, Ray Lewis, Dan Morgan, any of those guys on a stunt and if they see a shred of daylight to get to the QB they punch it and make a play. Playmakers only. Yes be disciplined, yes do your job, but when you can step up and get the team going, you make that play. We had none of that vs A&M and none of that vs MTSU - not one player got in that huddle and said hey we are about to make a play, hey let's get this ball back for the offense, hey stop letting these midgets run by you on 4 verticals and burn you, have some pride out here.

2) You need stability. Nobody wants to come to a revolving door, Mario benching TVD took brass balls whether people want to admit it or not. Preseason darling with all-ACC and a smidge of Heisman hype and you yank him, knowing recruits are watching and knowing the media will kill you for it. Mario is sending a message - I will not trot you out there to ***** over this football team no matter how much seniority you have. So GOOD - ESTABLISH THAT. AND STICK WITH THAT. Let TVD know that if he ever starts another game like that he won't get a second chance. Let Jake know that QB is his for the taking if he wants that spot and earns it over the next 2 weeks. But don't go changing coaches based on 4 games, if these coaches need certain things (a rocket scientist MLB who can make 80 reads in an instant, or a pair of TEs who are basically 2 extra O-linemen) go get them. And then if they fail, after you gave them everything they said they needed, then you can them. But we have gone through so many coaches, staffs, schemes, etc over the past 15 years that the best thing anybody could do to promote long-term success is just lock in the coaches, make smart adjustments, and use the players you have even if it means tweaking your scheme.

3) We as fans have seen multiple runs at the top. We as fans don't accept bad football and what we hate even worse is uninspired low-effort horsecrap performances from a bunch of kids that we were told were 4* studs who just needed coaching to unlock their talent. No amount of coaching will take the place of EFFORT. And I don't see it on the field. Not from TVD, not from Flagg, not from our coaches who keep putting a square peg in a round hole and utilizing our players poorly. EVERYBODY needs to put in that work. All the UM greats did, and that's why they became great. You don't get that back by Mario barking about effort and hustle in practice, you get that by recruiting dogs who want to be in that weight room, who love that climb to the top, who want to step up and make plays when the team needs it, and who get personally ****ed off every time their team loses a game. We don't have those players. And until we get some of those dogs to get excited about, why do we want to go to a sorry stadium that's mostly empty and watch a team give half effort and by the looks of things during and after games, don't even care if they win or lose.

Butch Davis came in after Erickson and didn't have much to work with by old Miami standards (a lot more than what Mario has right now), but within 3 years that roster was stacked. I'm willing to be patient while we get some new blood in here and a team of dogs. But in the meantime, at least show us fans that you care. Yanking TVD for sucking was a good sign. Now keep Mallory off that field, don't let Ivey get torched on man deep routes, and if you are a player get out there against UNC and MAKE A FREAKING PLAY. STEP UP. And even if you get blown out by 40 give 100% when you do it. I could appreciate that.

Hard to appreciate what's on the field right now and that's why a lot of fans are justifiably ticked off.

Everyone on here likes to act as if they have the answer to the myriad of problems this team currently faces. Amongst those issues are:

1. An anemic offense that fails to utilize proper spacing, is stubborn in its approach to run the ball even when the box is at a numbers disadvantage, and defecates all over itself in the red zone.

2. A quarterback that’s lost all confidence and seems to have rubbed his own teammates the wrong way, leading to a true QB controversy.

3. A roster full of guys who quite clearly play harder for others and quit when faced with the tiniest ounce of adversity, ready to point fingers or blame external factors for their poor play.

4. A coaching staff overall that is being paid like a top five staff, and yet is delivering inexplicably horrifying results.

5. A lack of loyalty from the area’s high school recruits and handlers, seemingly looking for an excuse to attend elsewhere (and honestly at this point, who could blame them?).

I could go on, but you get the point. Now with that being said, I’d love to hear from anyone regarding how they’d actually fix the issues - the immediate ones, and the long term outlook beyond 2022…instead of just yelling. I hate to be that guy, but we can’t give up this year when there’s still something to play for. Although Western Michigan is a solid G5 team, Pitt still found a way to lose to them after beating Tennessee in 2021, and yet still won an ACC Championship. We can at least get there, but that’s a different story and is going to take a massive internal change, and immediately.

Rattle off specifics. If you want Gattis fired, throw out some replacements. You want schematic changes for next weekend, name them. If you want players benched, go for it. Other coaches fired? Positions we need to attack in the portal? How many college ready guys do we need? How do we keep this recruiting class afloat?

Lot of questions, Lot of possible answers. I guess go on record for how you’d fix the short term and the long term, and we’ll see what actually ends up happening.

In all the bickering, we forget that every single of us do share one commonality: we all want Miami desperately relevant again.
TNT..

Imma keep it real man…I agree with everybody about Mario needing to adapt on offense (i said it before he was hired) but to me none of this **** will matter until we build a real and sustainable culture, the other problems like the offense and talent is just surface problems.

I cant say what ill do to fix it because im not in the building to know what’s going on..maybe the process has started (at least i want to believe it has) and we’re seeing the trials and tribulations of that in real time.

I still think Mario is the guy to fix it even tho I don’t like his philosophy on offense and gameday decisions but those are small problems compared to other stuff

Problem is these guys might go 3-9 and wreck our recruiting class if they do this.

All those napkin sheet playbook spreads that they say take only 3-4 days to install - go pick one and install it immediately during the bye week

Playing younger guys at db (Not Curtis), benching Mallory, Couch, Ivey, Flagg, Steed, Redding, Justice, Van Dyke, Blades. Play Horton, Wesley, Caleb Johnson, Chase Smith, Skinner more.

***** redshirting the freshmen, let them play instead of these upper classmen bums who have been here for 10 years and still don’t know how to play football.
I’ve said it before many times, we need to stop all this “6th year” BS. That should be only given to a chosen 1-2 guys who have earned that right. Everyone else can play there 6th year somewhere else. No love lost. Ask Scott Patchan. It’s not personal. But you are taking away reps from the younger kids by keeping this 6th year nonsense going. Mallory should be told he can be a mentor to Arroyo and Skinner but that’s about it. His minutes will be going to them for the rest of the season. Blades too. Thanks but we are going with Tae or Balom moving forward.

answer was a long term and short term , need to open up offense and add Tempo that has to be in playbook.
this season looks like a roller coaster due to character of team. go on the road and play TAMU even and should have won(RZ play calling was awful) and did bot bother showing up last Sat

Start Garcia, start Arroyyo because I swear Mallory gets slower and slower by the week.
While defense start Caleb and less snaps for Flagg, start porter in place of Ivey, and play Tae over Blades
this Flagg bashing is still unreal. week after week he lea

bingo on the option route. This is where TvD misses Restrepo the most. Both of them have said they watch a lot of film together and TVD knows exactly what/ where Restrepo will be on these option routes.
