How Would You Fix the Team/Program Going Forward

We are a power 5 school with recruiting classes in the top 30 for all years from 2018 (and have murdered the portal) and a massive coaching staff with experience…

And some of y’all want to excuse a loss to MTSU…

NOT HAVING IT….

I don’t know but I do know getting Dj Ivey, Corey Flagg, and few others off the field would be a great start.

Weak minded players? C'mon man. Some of these kids were champions and most of them came from winning programs.
High school champions are weak DIVAS ( means nothing) compared to D-I .
This is why we are what we are players scared to take the road less traveled never before.

Obviously we see the proof .

Take it from me with my long history with D-I players and NFL alumni from the U over 30 years , I was raised by UM coaching from Jack Harding’s family up to PAPA Nick Chickillo and his family the list is long and historic in U history.

Again we are weak minded till these players portal or just leave.

NOT ALL OF THEM , THE WEAK KNOW WHO THEY ARE.

Maybe they can’t D-I portal since CFB knows of them already and are forced to stay not good.

Maybe you and I share different definitions of weak minded. I don't see a player who isn't successful as necessarily weak minded. I believe that Mark Walton is a very weak minded man. And he was a good football player.

I think that "weak minded" is like "culture" its a collection of objective ideas that each of us has. And with no clear definition you can't search for it in people with any degree of certainty. Every highly rated player that we ever got we were excited about. 3 years later he's weak minded. How can anybody know?

Why is it Garcia or bust? We also have Jacurri Brown and he the most gifted QB we have as far as arm strength and athletic ability. Yes he is raw but so were a lot of other QB's I just don't understand how people think because at this point in time EVERYBODY SHOULD BE GIVEN A CHANCE.

Because right now he is the most inaccurate of the QBs we have got... he would be JW2

What happens a lot of times is these kids who all there lives a superior athletes so use to being enabled in so many ways and there athleticism makes up for any weakness they may have.

Like if a play is called and they misunderstand there route ( example) they can correct instantly on the fly and make huge plays . Never understanding what was the correct read and so on.

Plus a D-I playbook is super complicated with hundreds of options depending on D or O reads .

It really is complicated, I myself would need hours upon hours of help to understand.

When these kids find out there 5 star means zippo and there not 1st string anymore and on scout teams for couple years till they’re thinking stops and they can run routes like X does on instinct and be spot on 🎯 timed with QB and others.

When they are weak mentally in this the drop happens wrong routes causing interceptions and so on to occur.

Now there athleticism gets depressed and the 5 star player he used to be is gone causing blaming others for what there dealing with and there play slows down.

I’m not sure I’m coming close to explaining how weak mindedness sets it .

It can be so bad that every action they do has zero confidence to the point they panic and want to leave in desperation.

Brother it’s hard to put into words what goes thru an athletes mind in dealing with adversity in there game for the first time in there lives especially at D-I level.

I remember how Jimmy Johnson found Jimmy Jones a # 2 NFL DALLAS draft choice.

He went to see a 5 star player high school at practice and this huge kid was standing there crying watching his team practice.

JJ ask why aren’t you practicing, Jones said I can’t I have to stop playing yo go to work for my mom.

JJ ask young man I want you to play DT for me at Miami rest is history.

See this kids never ever had a break nothing given to him struggled in every way never was enabled and when he got to Miami he exploded to NFL level.

Again I hope I explained myself and my overflowing thoughts didn’t mess my explanation up to bad LOLOLOL

Everyone on here likes to act as if they have the answer to the myriad of problems this team currently faces. Amongst those issues are:

1. An anemic offense that fails to utilize proper spacing, is stubborn in its approach to run the ball even when the box is at a numbers disadvantage, and defecates all over itself in the red zone.

2. A quarterback that’s lost all confidence and seems to have rubbed his own teammates the wrong way, leading to a true QB controversy.

3. A roster full of guys who quite clearly play harder for others and quit when faced with the tiniest ounce of adversity, ready to point fingers or blame external factors for their poor play.

4. A coaching staff overall that is being paid like a top five staff, and yet is delivering inexplicably horrifying results.

5. A lack of loyalty from the area’s high school recruits and handlers, seemingly looking for an excuse to attend elsewhere (and honestly at this point, who could blame them?).

I could go on, but you get the point. Now with that being said, I’d love to hear from anyone regarding how they’d actually fix the issues - the immediate ones, and the long term outlook beyond 2022…instead of just yelling. I hate to be that guy, but we can’t give up this year when there’s still something to play for. Although Western Michigan is a solid G5 team, Pitt still found a way to lose to them after beating Tennessee in 2021, and yet still won an ACC Championship. We can at least get there, but that’s a different story and is going to take a massive internal change, and immediately.

Rattle off specifics. If you want Gattis fired, throw out some replacements. You want schematic changes for next weekend, name them. If you want players benched, go for it. Other coaches fired? Positions we need to attack in the portal? How many college ready guys do we need? How do we keep this recruiting class afloat?

Lot of questions, Lot of possible answers. I guess go on record for how you’d fix the short term and the long term, and we’ll see what actually ends up happening.

In all the bickering, we forget that every single of us do share one commonality: we all want Miami desperately relevant again.
relocate or drop to D2

Awesome story man. Love hearing stuff like that. Always a soft spot for kids with a rough start and a hunger to rise out of it.

Last night I dreamed that Miami lost to Notre Dame by 40+ this week. And Notre Dame isn’t even on the schedule.

This is what I thought you meant. In essence kids who lose their confidence and their posture when the going gets rough are "weak minded". That's one of my ideas for "weak minded" as well. But the question remains how do you get tough minded players? You can't just say, this kid has been an incredible athlete all his life so he obviously can't handle playing against the big boyz so I'm going to find some scrappy, poor kid from middle America because he's going to be hungrier.

Alabama and Clemson have had success with the "recruiting 5 star pampered athletes model". We can too.

Mental toughness can be a gift but it is a skill. And all skills can be developed.

This staff, particularly Gattis, shares responsibility for this debacle, but our lack of execution on O at this point had been mind-boggling to me. There have been so many scoring opportunities that our guys have not executed on. They're there, but we just can't seem to make it happen.
