How Would You Fix the Team/Program Going Forward

I’ve personally struggled with point 3. At first, I gave Gattis some slack in the first half against MTSU. TVD missed 7-8+ throws, the game could have and should have been much closer. You can argue that Tyler didn’t look comfortable, but some guys were so wide open that any capable college QB should hit them in stride.

Things looked better with Garcia, but again…red zone playcalling was beyond abysmal. Spacing is atrocious. I started counting how many times we’d run into the teeth of a defense that had 8-9 guys stacked in the box…no matter how good your o line is, you can’t block everyone. It’s simply a numbers disadvantage.

Let’s say Gattis sinks, because I personally don’t have much faith in him. What do you do with Ponce? QBs have regressed considerably, and I’m sure that the new OC will want his guys in place. Make Ponce OC? I sure as **** hope not. Fire Ponce with Gattis and bring in someone that emphasizes spread concepts with a solid running attack when having an advantageous look in the box makes too much sense…but is that the direction Mario wants to go?
Agree with everything you outlined here,

Mario has to blow up the offensive staff if he wants to get to be a top 10 team

There just hasn't been enough football yet to definitively say there's no hope with him. Not saying he does it, but there is a chance.
I hope you’re right! You’ve been standing hard in the paint so you have my respect

By ending it.

Recruiting, recruiting, recruiting. Them, have coaches that know what weapons they have, design plays to get maximum utility out of them. That’s what MT did. That’s what Tua said McDaniels was doing, and I see success in both cases.

Game 3 of a new regime. Some of y'all just dont have the stomach for this. That is fine. Just dont poison everyone else with your anxiety and nerves. Christ. To your question:

1. Bench TVD, Mallory.
2. Focus on Garcia's development
3. Be more vertical and use more quick slants with Smith

I copy/pasted what i said a few days ago (and added a bit more)

Should fire Gattis right now (or quiet demote), it looks bad but losing the rest of the games is far worse. Hand the keys to Ponce (i know....i know) and have him implement his App State offense during the bye. Then Mario has to give full offensive autonomy to a spread OC next year.

Also need to hire a lot of offensive support staff who know about non-prehistoric offenses. Mario and, apparently, Zo still live in the 80s so they need to be schooled up. Rad may need to really have a heart to heart with those two as well if he already hasn't.

If Mario truly acts as a CEO type head coach he could kill it, not sure that will happen but the guy cannot have his hands on the offense outside of the offensive line.

Lastly, play the young talented players. As a shock to no one, Skinner came in and made a great TD (**** the refs).

We sound like Michigan fans after YEAR 4 of Harbaugh. But we are having this discussion after GAME 4. I don't care how much we suck, no one is getting fired during the season. That is the exactly opposites of creating an attractive work environment for the next OC.

Go back in time and hire Sean Lewis instead of Gattis. Gattis is the type OC Mario should have went after, after 3 or 4 top 8 classes with beastly OL. (But also ideally theres a philosophical wake up here and an OC like Gattis isn't considered)

Beyond that opinion I got nothing, im beyond unqualified to interject in this topic and already mentally drained enough, as it is, to ramble on about some **** thatll make me in particular look stupid lol.

1. It is a little too late to change the offense but I'd install 10-20 plays that Garcia or TVD know well along with the WRs from the Lashlee playbook. Let them check into those plays anytime they see a stacked box.

2. Defensively, I hate the personnel choices. We have no speed at DB outside of a hurt Stevenson and young kids. We have no speed at LB that is allowed to play meaningful minutes. Where is Gil? Kid was our best LB 2 years ago and now doesn't get snaps. Instead, we have Couch in on 12 personnel plays. Wesley, Chase, Gil, Johnson have more wheels than 12/17. Heck, I'd let Gil/Chase/Wesley stay in even when 11 personnel and only sub one for a DB on 10 personnel.

Completely agree with this. We'll reevaluate at the end of the year. It would be absolutely insane, four games into a new regime, to start shaking up the staff. It would ruin Mario's reputation in the CFB world, be cannon fodder for negative recruiting, kill any chances of another decent OC looking at us, and would be the height of a panicky response.

Need to see how this season unfolds and take a full accounting afterward. Usually, for a program to succeed, staff changes are involved at some point. Take Saban, for example. After year 1, he made a change at OC, moved Kirby to DC, moved Steele, and brought in a new TE/ST coach. Most of the core remained the same, which is what I anticipate to happen if Mario needs to make changes at the end of the year. O is the problem right now.
