How long did it take you to realize that Golden sucked?

The Wake Forest game where we won at the last minute. Giant splits and zero adjustment while letting Campanaro singlehandedly destroy us

Season before last. Team stacked with NFL talent, won 6, then blamed those future NFL players and called them "Me" guys. The excuses and tossing the kids under bus, I was done.

The Louisville games too. Getting blasted in a bowl game then having a shot at them again, and getting beat again.

Last year's losses to UVA and Pitt. That's just losing the team. If you can't keep a team focused for two consecutive games when there's little to play for, you can't coach at this level.

We've had this thread a couple of times. It'd be interesting to compare this to others just to see if there's any migration. Selection bias, sure. The loudest anti-Golden folks are more likely to post Maryland or KState or Boston College.

Think I said K State myself last time and that stands. Started to believe we could overcome Golden's crap with the undefeated start in '12? '13? until that lolfest at Wake Forest, but KState qb keeps, jesus christ.

I bought into the 'what he did at Temple' hype. I gave him the benefit of the doubt for a few seasons. The team he inherited was not good, by Miami standards. I believed the Shapiro scandal negatively impacted recruiting.

I lost all faith after the blowout loss to Louisville in the 2013 bowl game. All we heard was how the team was hyped to play in a bowl game after two years of sanctions. All the team did was come out and tank once Louisville made a few plays. I would have fired him the day after that game. Not for losing, sadly, I expected to lose, but for being completely man-handled by an average team.

the day the whole penn state thing started and ended in lies and distrust i remember warren sapp told golden to just to leave.stop the bashing of coach d it was goldens defense it was then it is now his friend did what he was told dont think either should ever get another job ever by the way nobody gets the credit for knowing golden and saying when he was hired miami was not interested in winning with that hire and that man was jason whitlock go look it up glad to see him go and thank the heavens everyday .go canes

The '13 Duke and VT losses were inexcusable - we should have blown both of them out.

I had wanted golden gone since he went off the grid in January 2014 when he desperately pursued the penn state job. I remember people calling golden out after we won against wake forest and was 7-0 saying the defense was a mirage and all of that and the team wasn't that good. I'm glad he is gone and I'm glad we fired him later than sooner jumping the gun... Who knows who we would have gotten stuck with if they fired him after last year. Glad we got coach richt

broke do you actually think people believe what you write you golden slurper mother ******

Va Tech - 2013 was the game where I knew without a doubt that golden was not the right man for the job.

I was done with Golden after Virginia Tech in 2013. I remember that game, in Miami and it was raining. Logan Thomas was called "LOLgan Thomas" throughout the season, but looked like a Heisman front runner that game. If we won that game, we would've taken control of the Coastal and won. We squandered a great opportunity and allowed a pathetic offense to gain nearly 500 yards on us. The RAB later that year re-enforced my stance. The Nebraska game.....made me think Golden was going to be fired. Luckily things worked out the way they did as Shalala would've handled the next coaching hire and we know her track record from the past decade. James and Frenk got this hire right. Things work out for a reason.

Agreed. Huge doubts started to creep in after that game when Va Tech seemingly converted every 3rd and 20. But this is a ridiculous conversation. Golden could not have been fired after season 3. He had gone from 6 wins to 7 wins to 9 wins and was loved by the national media. If we fired him, who in the world would've taken this job? And don't say Butch, because even post-Donna, the BOT was clearly not interested in him. He should've been fired after season 4, when it was clear to everyone that he wasn't the right guy. But I think it worked out well, because Mark Richt is a dream hire.

Solid post. I'd say a majority of the fan base feels similar. Sadly, I held out faith until the post-FSU collapse in 2014. Losing to Virginia, Pitt and South Carolina showed me that not only was Al Golden a bad coach but he had lost the confidence of his players. They just flat out gave up on the season after the FSU loss.

I gave them a pass the first season with having how many starters out for "x" amount of games.

KSU, ND and Wake ****ed me off.

VT in 2013 was so bad, I turned off the game and told the wife I was going to the car meet. She was in disbelief that I just turned off a 'Canes game.

Duke the next weekend I lost all hope as I witnessed Duke run 5 plays over and over and over and nothing was done to stop any of them. I gave up on Golden and his staff then.

Then the PSU crap with the 6-7 record having how many NFL picks on that team, just solidified my decision was correct.

Thank GOD Donna was gone when we/the BOT/etc went for a new head coach.
