Honest question. I haven't looked up the answer

How many eventual championship level HCs did worse in their first year at a program than the fired guy who they replaced?

I haven't looked up the records, but I think Carroll was close his first year taking over for Hackett.

Pretty clear Rix is going to be worse than Folden/Scott. That's should scare and sicken everyone. I'd like to know if anyone did the same thing and went on to have great success at that same school.
Who is Rix?

The same ineffective, dawgshît playcaller from that other thread when you asked "who is Rick?"

If he doesn't start winning, it will soon be "Dix".

Even better...

Don Clark went 8-2 in 1959 as USC's head coach but 'resigned' after season-ending losses to UCLA and Notre Dame. John McKay was promoted from the staff and went 4-6 in 1960. McKay won NCs in 1962, 1967, 1972, and 1974.

History is on our side!

The odds just got better. Like you said... We're definitely trending up. Our poles are rising.

True. I thought Chise would call him Dicht or pRicht but Patricht Rix is on a whole nother level of creativity, unfortunately for us.

I agree that he needs a real OC but that's for next year. What bothers me so much this year is that he doesn't adjust his system based on the personnel he has when that personnel can't execute the system he'd like to run. It's like he threw winnable games away due to his own stubbornness.

It will be interesting to see how long we use national championships as the reference point.

I noted the subtle switch to "championship level" in the OP.

That was proper, IMO, although everybody in this thread seemingly has ignored "level" in favor of championship(s) period.

I've stated many times that I don't expect to see another Canes title. For example, despite landing a terrific coach in Harbaugh and barreling through undefeated so far, Michigan is still above 6/1 in future odds to win the championship this season. And it should be worse than that, if actual game to game probability is used. Future odds are a notorious ripoff.

I'm glad I sensed at the time how surreal and fragile our glory years were.

I think fans need to be prepared for another dumpster next season. It is not about a coach's first year the better question is how many upperclassmen did the team lose with the old coach?

Miami had major turnover in 94 so Butch had to rebuild without a fully loaded gun. Anyway about my original comment breaking in a new starting OLine and secondary yeah best of luck improving with those obstacles.

If there are no changes to the staff after the season I think we have serious problems. New OC and a decision has to be made on Searles. For me he has been a major disappointment. There is no effort how does that happen?

Yup....just be patient guysm. We should be able to compete in the Coastal by 2022.

I am not saying 2022 year 3 he must have 10 wins minimum or hot seat(banners) will commence. I just don't see improvement next year hope I am wrong. You can expect a better DFense but the woeful offense will more than makeup for the D's improvement.

I think maybe Tressel.

But the problem is Richt wasn't some new guy who needed a year to get **** figured out. He's an extremely experienced coach.

Neither was Saban (and I'm not comparing Richt to Saban, Saban is a much better coach).

Lol... DawgshîtCane... Stalking Chise from the creepy shadows and coming back with the Big Gäy attack.... Well... You've really got nothing else to contribute so you might as well do your Dawgshît best with that.

We return 10/11 starters on offense. Explain why we're regressing.

Saban made his new team worse? News to me.

Did I say that? Shula was 6-6. Saban was 6-6. Saban was an experienced guy who had won a national title who sucked his first year at Bama.

OP,

Here you go:

Syracuse was 5-6 in 1980 with Frank Maloney as head coach.

Syracuse went 4-6-1 in 1981 with **** MacPherson as head coach and then 2-9 in 1982 before rebounding to 6-5 in 1983 and then 11-0-1 in 1987.
