Highest PFF P5 graded OLine -wk1

It's just a depth chart but Campbell is listed as the starter at LG....could Rivers be the one who kicks over to RG?

Jeez Clark is 320? We got some big dudes on the OL.

Lance put it in another thread, but it was our most efficient game offensively in five years. Maybe more. It was because of the OL, primarily, and secondarily great QB play and no dropped passes. Also the RBs found the hole on virtually every play, which goes back to the OL.
Which thread?

Lol...Art isn't on Stoutlands level????
* Eric Winston -1st team AA
* Leon Searcy- 1st team AA
* Brett Romberg- 1st team AA (Rimington Award)
* Mckinnie - 1st team AA (Outland Award)
* Mercier - 1st team AA
* KC Jones - 1st team AA
Now show me what Stoutland did at UM in comparison......I'll wait
I knew i would stir the hornets nest with you on this one because Old School Canes will always be #1 in your book - and i respect that. It's just my opinion though on Stoutland.

Kehoe is a Miami legend. He's earned a ton of respect for what he's done here, who he's helped produce, who he's put in the league, etc. He was one of my favorite position coaches growing up (Soldinger being another). He was a great college coach for a period of time but i see Stoutland as being one of the better OL coaches across all leagues, college and pro, during his time. If you talk to NFL people, that's how he's viewed, the way Hudson Houck used to be talked about during his tenure. Stoutland succeeded at Michigan State with top rated units, succeeded at Miami, succeeded at Bama and then succeeded in the NFL. He even turned a Rugby players into an All-Pro. He has a history of success, development and progression at all stops and all stages.

Kehoe had some great years and developed some great players (your list above) and great units, particularly the 2001 line, but he also had more than a couple bad years where people were ready to run him out of town. He was fired a few different times and never succeeded elsewhere. You mentioned Winston above.....the line that included Winston, who was an AA tackle, was terrible pass blocking unit. Before Stoutland left, he recruited 3 NFL linemen in Linder, Feliciano and Henderson.....those guys mixed with Flowers never quite met expectation as a unit under Kehoe that i recall.

Also, i know most articles credit Kehoe for Searcy, but the OL coach those seasons was Gregg Smith, was it not? Kehoe was an asst OL coach during that time.

Nah Man....Art worked with Leon alot...Just because Art was an assistant to Smith is meaningless....Alot of the times the assistants are the ones who spend the majority of the time working directly with the players, irregardless of the position. Art put 30+ quality OLmen into the NFL....Way more than Stoutland did. 5 NC Rings...and Btw...Coker threw him and Sarge completely under the bus for his failures.

Anez and Francis competing on the right side vs. Denis/Logan/McCoy. Plus the combo of Campbell/Rivers/Jakai as presumed starters. Could start to look dominant real quick.

But for right now. This season. I am optimistic this OL can be a top 3 ACC OL. Gotta just keep grinding.

I never thought that at the beginning of spring ball, UM would have this luxury of actually having real depth with guys who can play upfront and you'd be secure with in ACC play

I personally think the best Oline coach we've had was Tony Wise. Ended up going to Dallas with Jimmy and well, you saw what he developed over there

As for Gregg Smith, our lines fell apart after JJ's recruits left. He was basically Erickson's drinking buddy

Mirabel can be on that Mt Rushmore very soon....

Not basically Ericksons drinking buddy....he WAS his drinking buddy.....Anyone who really knows UM FB such as yourself @k9cane ...knows how much Art meant to this program.

Yeah I get the whole “it’s Bethune” thing

But we’ve played them and plenty of ****** teams over the years and didn’t look that good on offense

Definitely ready for Saturday to see if we keep the momentum against a better opponent

Miami vs Savannah ST; Miami wins 77-0

Miami vs Bethune Cookman; Miami wins 63-0

I mean he missed all of last year with the knee injury he could really apply for another year if he really wanted to. But yes he has 1 year left after this year. I’d assume if Zion leaves early he takes his spot.

Not trying to jump ahead but Scaife and Justice are done after this year and if Zion does well he’s gone. So Clark, Campbell, and Rivers would be our returning guys.
Exactly. We would return Campbell, Rivers and Clark which is the entire left side of the OL.

2023 OL.......

LT John Campbell/Matt McCoy
LG Jalen Rivers/
C Jakai Clark
RG Anez Cooper
RT Francis Mauigoa

Looks like we had the highest graded PFF graded power 5 OLine after week 1 with a 93.5 grade.

This was pretty evident upon rewatch. We were just clearing guys out of holes with ease.

Obviously opponent was just Bethune, so we shouldn’t take too much out of it. But it’s still a great sign. A couple years from now this OLine is going to be full of monsters

The grade that matters is A&M, Clemson and other programs with a pulse. Until then, let’s shut this down.
