Highest PFF P5 graded OLine -wk1

Bottom line: Coaching matters! Cristobal and Mirabol have transformed our offensive line in 6 months through coaching alone, not new recruits or transfers. Too many coaches blame the “lack of talent” for not producing results. Cristobal and Mirabol just went to work and the results are there. Granted, “Its only Bethune”, but I can’t recall that the Canes have never had a OL grade out like this. Stoutland was my favorite Canes OL coach until Cristobal and Mirabol came to town. Players we wrote off as JAGs and Scrubs, might end up in the League.

Lance put it in another thread, but it was our most efficient game offensively in five years. Maybe more. It was because of the OL, primarily, and secondarily great QB play and no dropped passes. Also the RBs found the hole on virtually every play, which goes back to the OL.

NFL scouts have admitted they thought Oregon had many NFL caliber players on Oline when scouting Penei Sewell, only to find out their were not as many NFL prospects as they thought. The line played so well on tape they assumed their line was loaded with NFL dudes, says alot for the work Cristobal and Mirabal did up there...

I'm in the "it's just Bethune" crowd, but I'll just add that lots of other teams played cupcakes last weekend. I don't think this tells us a ton about what to expect vs ATMs DL, but it's still good news. It's safe to say we've never graded this high against the Bethunes of the world in the past, so hopefully, that's progress.
Same but just from a technique and assignment standpoint we looked more improved there than anywhere else vs bethune.

Last year guys were sloppy and didn’t know where to be, that was more an issue than the plain run game

🎯🎯🎯Thats why draft picks isn’t always an indication of how well a team was developed and coached. Recruit and develop guys who fit your team and you’ll have success, cincy,Oklahoma st,utah,Houston, all of them have shown it

Yes this happened against Bethune Cookman.

Meanwhile, the Aggies couldn't run for four yards a carry on Sam Houston.

We ran the ball completely at will on the opposition. Regardless of down and distance, field position, previous runs, etc. We barely had interest in throwing the ball and the only reason we did it is to give the QBs some reps.

and vision, which IMO is Parrish's best quality

cf. Clemson. great college football OL. havent' produced an NFL OL in a while IIRC

IMO it’s very important that Zion play this week and we run with the OL we’re bringing to college station. Communication and trust are such huge pieces of the puzzle on a good offensive line. It’s key we get a dry run this week before we go on the road and face an elite DL.

I think this can’t go without mentioning. Yes, the line played near flawlessly but watching our running backs operate, especially in short yardage was impressive. Parrish, I’m particular, has the patience, vision and change of direction ability to take the hand-off, find the open running lane and shift direction to get through the crease. Just because a play is designed to run through the A gap, doesn’t mean that’s always where the hole is going to open. There were quite a few plays where if the running back had just taken the ball and ran exactly where the play was designed to go, he would have been stuffed for no gain or a loss. Very good patience and vision turned a great blocking day into a dominant day.

PFF OL ranks:

2015 (Golden) - 117th Run / 112th Pass
2016 (Richt) - 33rd Run / 24th Pass
2021 (Manny) - 86th Run / 6th Pass

I expect the run blocking to take a huge leap under Mario like it did with Richt.

We haven't allowed a sack in our last 113 passes. That's impressive. The pass blocking has already been really good.

Texas A&M will be a great measuring stick

I am with you, but after watching out OL the last several seasons, I will take accolades where we can get them, if not for anything but confidence
