Hetherman had his roughest day at Miami

DL isn't what it was last season and the secondary is not good. LBs can't cover for ****. Injuries are apart of that of course but we made a horrible personnel decision replacing Scott with Thornton. Thornton shouldn't be playing here. His *** belongs as Boston College and we should've went after a legit nickel corner. We're wasting Fitz at nickel because we don't have anyone to play there. We play way too much soft zone and guys are just running free.

As far as this game, Norvell sucks as a HC and as a recruiter but that dude can scheme up an offense. I'm sure once he's fired, if he doesn't take a G6 job, he'll be an OC for a G4 school. Honestly, I'd take him over Dawson as an OC. At least he knows how to run screens and gets somewhat creative with the run game.

I agree with you regarding Norvell.
He will end up as an OC somewhere.
I can see someone like Dabo hiring him at Clemson.

With lack of pass rush the DB’s are asked a lot to cover that long. Better pass rush will only help the secondary.

Our blitzes seemed to be coming in from the outside and were picked up, not up the middle.
I was at the game, and that is what it seemed like.

Tired to tell you guys all off-season the defense would take a step back. It’s fine, we can win a championship with this group. But it’s gonna have to be paired with a Top ~5 offense. Which again, is very possible.

We’re hard to kill. Again. For the 3rd year in a row. Maybe we win a natty, maybe we don’t. But we’re one of the very small group of teams who can. Pretty much all you can ask for. This is real, big-boy program, built to sustain. And next year, it’ll be more of the same, because we have just a comical group of talent coming in to pair with all the kids still here.

But for now, let’s get **** tightened up on the back end and keep stacking wins. We got better down the stretch last year. If we do the same this year, look out.

THIS, has nothing to do with this particular thread but I didn’t want to start a new one. Am I buggin but I always imagined us coming out to “In the Air tonight” through the smoke with the lights flashing, Vice Style. Have we ever and if not, why don’t we? I feel like is the City of Miami unofficial theme song..

What makes you feel he’s getting cute? He’s calling the same defense he has been since he got here.
Agree, but I felt we did more stunting last night than what I have seen in 1.5 years from him. It didn't work once. Maybe somewhat on that 1st 4th down in double OT where we stunted and Lightfoot got by his guy and was able to pressure Daniels

OC, yes, then back in the trenches as a P4 Head Coach somewhere. Just a few years ago, the guy had FSU geared for the NC until he lost his QB.

They absolutely ******* refuse to get any other LBs snaps or development. It's baffling.

Toure has been THE worst LB in coverage in the entire P4 the last 2 years, no ******* joke. Smith isn't good either. How do they expect any of our other LBs to improve if they never play? Why the **** in obvoius pass downs is Toure even ******* near the field?

When you combine this with us getting murdered with DB injuries (and an ejection) and the fact that one of our Nickel/Safeties is a major coverage/tackling/angle liability.... Yeah we're stopping the run.... Why wouldn't every signle offense we play just play quickly through the air to take away our pass rush and do as many RB dumpoffs in space to our LBs/Thornton as possible?

We need Antione (or OJ please) back healthy and to get Fitzgerald (or Dunnigan) fully at Nickel. And ffs get Pruitt/Wiley/Bonner reps at LB! Marcelin is in the similar mold to Smith/Toure and is already getting a solid number of snaps. But sure absolutely have marcelin in rather than Toure and maybe smith on clear pass

We've allowed 7 TDs in coverage this year. 5 have been against Toure and Thornton. Xavier Lucas today is responsible for another 2.
Toure is allowing 158.3 QBRating when targeted. If you didn't know, that is literally a perfect QB rating. He has played the 7th most coverage snaps on defense for us. And he allows A PERFECT ******* QB RATING when targete.

He is our experienced leader.. He is allowed to make mistakes and be put in those positions. We cant play the other guys because they make mistakes.. lol

Feels like OCs have a bead on him this year. Needs to break tendency a little bit.

We're currently 71st in 3rd Down Conversion Percentage Defense (38.9%), and it feels like a lot of those are 3rd and long.

The last two games, we've given up:

3rd & 16
3rd & 11
3rd & 18 (bogus facemask)
3rd & 8 (bizarre Tampa 2 call)

to bad QBs.

And we got bailed out on the 4th & 21 play (penalty was legit, coverage on the back end was not)

We have injuries and the Poyser ejection hurt, but we gotta clean up some of this stuff. I hated the DB blitz on the 75-yard to Duce. Just play coverage. Make FSU drive efficiently drive down the field.

Screen passes just kept getting chunks over and over and over.

Also, I might be in the minority, but I'm not crazy about these "NASCAR" packages with 4 DEs out there. I'd rather have Wilson and Lightfoot rushing the edges than the interior. Have at least one DT in there to bullrush so the QB has a harder time climbing the pocket.

And can we try Ewald at nickel a little bit? He seemed to have good closing speed in the reps that I saw. Thornton in coverage...

Overall, I'm pleased with the defense considering all the injuries, but stuff to clean up.

Thankfully it came after a win.
I think he needs to stop sending these blitzes from Cuba it seems. I mean if we can’t get pressure with our front four than we got problems.

Dawson and Mensah got exposed from some different looks as well.

It's cool though; key is responding to challenges and finding a way to win each week.

Adversity builds character and I think the rewatch will show some good things.

Seeing O'Connor and Mallory step up in big moments was awesome! I love how this team is coming together.
