Feels like OCs have a bead on him this year. Needs to break tendency a little bit.

We're currently 71st in 3rd Down Conversion Percentage Defense (38.9%), and it feels like a lot of those are 3rd and long.

The last two games, we've given up:

3rd & 16
3rd & 11
3rd & 18 (bogus facemask)
3rd & 8 (bizarre Tampa 2 call)

to bad QBs.

And we got bailed out on the 4th & 21 play (penalty was legit, coverage on the back end was not)

We have injuries and the Poyser ejection hurt, but we gotta clean up some of this stuff. I hated the DB blitz on the 75-yard to Duce. Just play coverage. Make FSU drive efficiently drive down the field.

Screen passes just kept getting chunks over and over and over.

Also, I might be in the minority, but I'm not crazy about these "NASCAR" packages with 4 DEs out there. I'd rather have Wilson and Lightfoot rushing the edges than the interior. Have at least one DT in there to bullrush so the QB has a harder time climbing the pocket.

And can we try Ewald at nickel a little bit? He seemed to have good closing speed in the reps that I saw. Thornton in coverage...

Overall, I'm pleased with the defense considering all the injuries, but stuff to clean up.

Thankfully it came after a win.

I mean the secondary is extremely banged up, it is what it is. But I’m annoyed with the fact we can’t get enough pressure with just our front four. I mean **** we have 4 guys who are fighting to be a top 50 pick in Scott, Moten, Lightfoot, and Wilson. Maybe we need to run more stunts like Indiana. We could eat going straight up last year, but now we need to get more creative up front to get pressure without sending a corner or safety blitz.

I thought before this game we had the right approach on defense - make offenses have to work and drive down the field, and then in the red zone play tighter coverage.

The DB Blitz on the touchdown that tied the game at 28 went against all that. It was late and I could see it coming from a mile away.

Wasn’t his best day
It was probably Norvell’s best in years

Yep. Slow motion “nooooo whyyyy…with two minutes broooo”

One OC had a bead on him this year. Prior to the game the D was #1 in scoring defense and in top 10 in yards allowed.

The secondary is the walking wounded right now. FSU took advantage of it. Hopefully last night was an outlier and not the start of a trend. As the guys in the secondary get healthy and back on the field, I think it will get better.

Yea that Tampa 2 call with Mo Toure was a headscratcher.

If youre gonna do that, gotta be Pruitt or something. Not Mo.
A lot more of these head scratchers this year then last. Run D is elite. Pass D leaves a lot to be desired. Not sure day and JJ are a good fit on the backend together as both have similar skill sets. Woulda preferred either at nickel

sending a db blitz that everyone has figured out at a guy whose offense is counters and screens doesnt seem like a good idea

Heatherman is a great coach, but even they have bad days. His gameplan against this offense was atrocious, and THAT QBs stats tonight, vs what he's done all year, exposes it plainly

Norvell isn't stupid ... he knew his ONLY shot was attacking Miami's wounded secondary ... and he did. Kudos to their QB he was hot last night. But what really KEPT them in the game was that phantom Facemask Penalty. No penalty ... no TD and game over.

He didn't have a great night and I think OCs are on to some of his stuff. Let's see how he adjusts.

Heatherman's in a tough spot with the db's. Had Thornton spying Daniels early - didn't work so well. Daniels moves the chains with scrambles a couple times early and picks up confidence. And it snowballed into a great game. Meanwhile, Thornton NOT EVEN CLOSE (how's that possible when YOU'RE THE SPY?) on one 3rd down scramble in the first half.

Poyser's ejected so TF Dunnigan playing deep half and rotates to the middle of the field on one of the screen TDs. No matter how athletic, still a TF as the last line of defense.

Then they get cute blitzing Dunnigan, like the idea but NOT leaving Thornton as single high, and disaster ensues.

So yeah, tough night. There is a player who's a common thread to a lot of the troubles, but injuries/ejections are keeping him on the field. AND, not sure there would be an inclination to drastically reduce his role anyway.

Not a fan of the defensive game plan last evening , but honestly , daniels handled everything really well. He threw very well saw the field well and his legs definitely complimented his game
