Here's what I know

I’m making a point , not literally having a debate. I’m the guy who said I’m ok with Lane as a plan B even though i know what a sleaze ball he is off field and the possibility he could cause embarrassment to Miami. That’s leaving out the less than impressive resume as a HC.

The point i‘m making is you can’t bash Mario with his flaws and then act like Lane is some great hire or answer. Thats ridiculous.

Mario's HC resume is less impressive then Lane's

I think Moorehead works in the B1G style because it’s all centered around running the Football.

From a personnel standpoint Miami needs an Air Raid OC, that incorporates the run game as well but isn’t dependent on it in the same way that Moorehead will be.

I’m not that high on Marcus Arroyo either, I remember watching his offense at OK St & have watched about 4 games of UNLV this year & his system is not very good IMO.

Mario usually hires guys who he has personal relationships with, so if Arroyo gets fired at UNLV (which he probably will) I wouldn’t be shocked if he hired him here.

But I think it will be in his best interest to hire an OC that runs a system that centered around a high volume passing attack. I’d go all out to steal Zach Kittley from WKU, but I doubt he’d do that lol.
^this! I love Mario but VERY concerned about his OC hire, I asked @Brooklyndee about this a few days ago. He has to bring an Air Raid OC with better run concepts than Lashlee currently uses.

Here’s the issue in that line of thinking...

Oregon is in year 4 of Mario’s recruiting, needing a limited QB like Anthony Brown in year 4 is a head scratcher for an Elite recruiter, so if Brown is a bust it makes you wonder why you would bet the house on a QB who isn’t very good to begin with when you have playoff aspirations...

Especially in a weak conference like the PAC-12.
Mario has signed 4 blue-chip QBs since he's been there, so it is more of an evaluation than recruiting issue.

It's a weird position. Butch was the best evaluator ever but missed on most of his QBs. Manny has rebuilt our QB room despite no real background or special recruiting skill.

I like that we already have guys to ease Mario's transition. Of course, he would need to eventually start signing/developing his own QBs.

Helfrich inherited a championship contender and was 4-8 three years later. Willie was 7-6 in his only year. Mario went 9-4 right away, went 12-2, had a bad Covid year (4-3) but won the conference, and now he's 9-2.
22-9 in pac 12 still isn’t overly impressive. 9-4 last two years post Herbert with Mario’s recruits. Manny is 11-5 about to be 12-5 in acc. He’s a step up but doesn’t feel like a huge one

Won the conference after finishing 3rd in his own division in the COVID year.

Cristobal is a 3 loss per year coach in a bad conference with the best talent. Why would he be any more successful here than at Oregon?

I’m good with either.

What I am ecstatic about is the financial commitment, without which we wouldn’t have a chance at either.

A while back I was adamant we had very little chance to lure Mario (or anyone that counts), the money changes all that.

We won’t ever be at Bammer/UGa/LSU level, but at least we’re sitting at the adult table now.

Anyone that doesn’t realize this, is not understanding what a huge seed change for the program this is.

It feels like Lane and Mario are both quality candidates and if we are truly getting one of these two then we are in a better place than we've been in the 15 years.

It seems those favoring Lane are valuing the Xs and Os advantage he brings and those favoring Mario are favoring his recruiting ability.

Both have warts. Can Mario recruit and develop a top QB? Can he make the right moves with his OC decision so that TVD and any other quality QB isn't hampered by the system? Can he get the OL here that he got at Bama and has at Oregon?

With Kiffin you worry if he can recruit or if he'll be our Mullen. You wonder if he will even be here 3 years from now. You wonder if he will field a quality defense. You wonder if he sticks around if he can stabilize a program.

Neither is perfect. I understand why some prefer one over the other. It's tough to really choose between the two. If I knew Lane could recruit well I'd be fully in his corner. If I knew Mario would field an offense like what we have right now averaging 35+ per game then I'd be all in his corner.

It is refreshing to be comparing these two over googling Al Golden and and comparing him to Marc Trestman.

Then take away the COVID year. It would look like this: 9-4, 12-2, 9-2.

Isn't that miles better than what we have now? And he has the best talent because he got the best talent.

If he comes here, I expect him to: (1) consistently land Top 10-12 classes with Top 5 upside; (2) improve our OL; (3) have us ready to play big games. Those are things he has proven as a head coach.

If those things happen at Miami, it will be hard for us to be bad.

Yes

Why not? We might fall to number 70 in recruiting from 61? Also there’s ways around buyouts if both schools agree to negotiate. Why make both teams be held hostage waiting on the obvious?

What about the transfer portal? Most of the top recruits and transfers will be enrolled by then. You are unnecessarily setting yourself back a year to save a couple bucks. Doesn’t make sense to me. If you’re going to commit, commit.

We get wiped off the ******* map like we're Hiroshima every time we play a good team and people are comparing Mario to Manny LMAOOOOOOOO.

If Miami hires Kiffin or Mario I feel confident in saying it accomplishes what the school, and we as fans, have been hoping for for a long time

Can we please stop this debate on Mario vs Kiffin??

We don’t need to crap on one candidate to validate the qualities of the other

As long as we get one of the two I’m ready for the bourbon to flow
In all honesty, I don’t really think it’s even Mario vs Kiffin anymore, it’s really a Mario vs Mario debate.

It’s the idea of the perception that Mario is a literal perfect Coach vs the reality of Mario as a coach.

I think what’s happened is that because Mario has been heralded as a near Deity amongst Canes fans it’s caused the natural reaction of people taking a closer look & having some legitimate questions. What happens is that whenever you ask questions people seem to get emotional as if we’re not allowed to ask questions at all & that even having a second thought about Mario is borderline blasphemous lol

It can’t be denied that he’s a very good coach, but he gets propped up as the next Saban & if people are Mario fans they should actually hate that, because it’s doing a disservice to him to set the bar so high & that’s why it’s good to examine in full what could happen rather than just assume what’s going to happen.
