So they're gonna let rich guys pick the coach? This school doesnt learnSounds more like the people who are going to pony up 7 figures of their own money are focused on that guy.

Cribby - aren’t certain decisions made by select few BOTs or they follow the BOTs leading the charge & just fall in line or this seriously like Congress - they all vote & majority wins?It should be him but theres a lot of votes, and some of those people are scared of the unknown , change / risk and even worse don’t care about football. Hopefully the Herbie colonoscopy is still lingering in the back of their minds.
...and the money and new found commitment from the president's office. We're definitely in a different position than we've been in forever. This is backwards.
Miami has had four coaching searches in 15 years. We never went after the current coach HC of a high-end Power 5 program because it was unrealistic. We ended up going after coordinators, G5 coaches or recently fired coaches. The only reason a guy like Mario is realistic here is because of the Miami ties.
this is a fair point about resources, but when you say that Oregon has the best talent... who do you think acquired that talent? he has been running circles around the rest of the conference in recruiting his entire time there. this matters. saying that he would "probably" improve recruiting, when we are currently ranked behind SMU, Pitt, Boise State, Iowa and Oregon State is ridiculous. to quote Kirby Smart:Its not so much bashing Mario as the process that we are taking. Mario would be a safe hire, doesn't bring anything schematically to the table, probably improve recruiting (although now he has to compete with the SEC), very dependent on the OC hire.
Records aren't as important to me as situations. The Pac 12 sucks, Oregon has the most resources and best talent. He's doing fine but not sure why everyone is impressed.
This is what I don't get about the recruiting talk. You win, recruiting will improve here, naturally. I refuse to believe any of the guys most of us want, would recruit worse than Manny, Golden, Richt, Shannon. I don't believe it.For the record, being above average and going 9-3 every year would get us a top 15 to top 10 recruiting class every year.
Winning at Miami fixes itself from a recruiting standpoint
Lane and Aranda are also realistic. This is backwards.

At one point in his career, **** yes he was. Later on when Miami was down was when he thought he could simply out talent teams. He put it on cruise control and the program fell apart. He didn't take his own advice. You think Bobby Bowden was an Xs and Os coach?
Lane consistently acquiring that talent advantage is my worry. He's a much better Game Day coach... and funny af.He developed Corral into what he is today. Oh and Lane is on pace to go 10-2 in the toughest division in the sport in his second year. If you think Lane with Mario’s talent advantage would be in 4th quarter games with Cal, Washington and Arizona you’re out of it.
Mario would be more like Mike Vrabel - CEO type (Vrabel specializing in LBs) and Mario with Offensive line. Tough as nails teams, great talent evaluators that get developed.Obviously losing your OC right before game time is a big issue, but I think that’s the problem with a CEO coach like Mario. As Ridler had started a thread about, Mario has nothing schematically to hang his hat on despite the fact he’s been an offensive coach his entire careee

Jurich + Freeze = National Title in year 3…and massive NCAA sanctions in Year 4.@DMoney has someone like Freeze come up? I don't like all this Mario > Lane or bust talk
Freeze is my choice. Jurich + Freeze please
You forgot another adjective - scarred! There will be sooo many ****ed off CFB fans if Miami pulls Jurich and Mario/Lane.
That's fair and this argument makes sense to me, you brought up his record so I thought that's what you argue about. Its not so much bashing Mario as the process that we are taking. Mario would be a safe hire, doesn't bring anything schematically to the table, probably improve recruiting (although now he has to compete with the SEC), very dependent on the OC hire.

TBuck can recruit tho.Lane consistently acquiring that talent advantage is my worry. He's a much better Game Day coach... and funny af.
As an OC and recruiting coordinator, Lane had great classes at USC. I believe several number 1 classes. To all the anti Mario people but pro Lane please explain how one can have those strong opinions. I’m not even an anti Lane guy but that dudes resume is the definition of meh. He’s had as many bad moments as good. He’s a great play caller but somebody known not to love recruiting, rubs people the wrong way and thinks he’s smarter than he really is. Does that sound familiar ? That guy just got fired at UF, only difference one is risky as **** off the field. Like I said I’m not anti Lane , I’ve actually defended him a lot. I just don’t get ripping a guy with a better resume and a far better recruiter , but you love this guy.
Welp, they need to start ****ing...There will be sooo many ****ed off CFB fans if Miami pulls Jurich and Mario/Lane.
