Here's what I know

the last thing that worries me (and this is bc we've seen with this UM) is that they hire a guy they can't or refuse to fire if it doesn't turn out well regardless of Mario lane or Saban lol. the Columbus trio has me worried in that aspect (this would be the same if a Spanish River trio came out for lane)

Bingo.

"Utah started 1-2 and made a quarterback change to Cameron Rising that has paid off, all while playing with heavy hearts through the death of cornerback Aaron Lowe in late September. Utah will play for the Pac-12 championship, and Saturday showed that they’ll probably be favored to win it."
7-1 since the Qb change...

So now our standard is "road games in conference?"

OK. I prefer "wins," "conference championships" and "Top 10 wins," but let's use that bizarre standard.

Lane Kiffin is 11-11 in conference road games at USC/Ole Miss. I assume that's your candidate based on your prior posts. Should we drop him?

id say what hes done at OM in the best division in football (not even close) has been impressive. hes def grown as a coach from his early days at USC and tenn. FAU was impressive too

IMO would be a horrendous hire as an OC.

This offense is ready made to be lethal, Ponce has only been a play caller at the HS level & just recently became OC at App St, during his previous years at App under Satterfield he never called plays.

Miami needs a proven killer lab technician OC that can take the QB & all the weapons we have & turn them into a high octane machine. We don’t have time to be experimenting with OC’s, our identity is Passing to set up the run, any OC that’s coming here to try to transform us into a Run first team is just gonna make his job that much harder & set us behind the 8ball as a team.

We need to lean into our strengths offensively, not try to reinvent the wheel. You give the right OC TVD, Knighton, George, Key Smith, Brinson, Restrepo, B Smith, Mallory & Arroyo & he’ll turn it into a high powered productive unit.

You're rational and intelligent. That is far from the norm in these threads. You have people, many of them, saying they would not be happy if the University of Miami hired Mario Cristobal. They don't have any alternate suggestions, just say, "Nope. Mario is a no. He lost to Utah. He's not a great schematic advantage." Huh!? What planet are we on? How can any human being on this board look at what we are, where we've been, and not think that Mario Cristobal would be a gigantic upgrade?

Full disclosure, I'd dance a ******* jig if it's Lane too. I'm just happy if we're actually in the arena to hire coaches like this. So if you think Lane or Herman would be better, I will listen and respect your opinion. But if you just flat say "no" to Mario Cristobal.....I just can't help you.

he isn't saying he wouldn't be an upgrade. hes saying that there a holes as there are with every HC not named Saban. hes specifically talking about fit with the roster and personnel. we have two possibly elite QBs (one who is likely gonna win the ACC ROY and the other as a recruit) along with tremendous skill talent on O. he wants someone who will utilize that to its full extent vs forcing a square peg round hole type deal with Mario (if Mario keeps his offensive scheme)

Why not? We might fall to number 70 in recruiting from 61? Also there’s ways around buyouts if both schools agree to negotiate. Why make both teams be held hostage waiting on the obvious?
I've posted on here that I think that losing one class to get the hire right (including financials, etc) is simply the cost of doing business.

We have enough talent on the roster to get by. And with the portal, the recruiting class becomes less important. Plus, Mario (or Lane) might be able to bring a few guys they are currently recruiting (didn't see anyone mention Arch Manning, who Lane has been on... I know he is likely SEC-bound, but we can dream).

It's a great point on negotiating the buyout. Oregon will be stuck at the alter just like us if Mario decides to come home. Might as well get out in front of it. I'm sure they have a pretty good idea of where he is leaning right now. It's a bit telling that you haven't seen any extension signed yet, ala Mel Tucker.

What exactly does top 10 wins get you when you follow them up with bad conference losses? Miami had a top 5 win in 2017 then lost to Pitt. Were you singing the praises of that Richt win on that Friday afternoon after the Pitt loss? Maybe you like the superficialness of graphics that show up on GameDay or other shows that lay that out.

You have a very odd standard. "I prefer wins" but losing games on the road in conference don't mean anything because they beat Ohio State. Will that win count even more if he drops the game to Oregon State? That would be three conference losses but at least they didn't hurt his top 10 record.

Is that what makes Zach Kittley such an attractive OC? What he's done with Bailey Zappe this year is nothing short of amazing.
Might have been the easiest season win total over I've ever had, that offense was dynamic at Houston Baptist. Have em to win the Conference at a hefty price as well.

Living SLC and having friends that played there from what they have said the transfer from Baylor who started the season was a cancer on the team. Rising was voted captain after he was named the back up QB. That being said Mario's team looked bad . I watch friend who visit "struggle" with the altitude so it does give Utah an advantage .
